Madelyn hid her face, fuming as she trailed behind Morris out of the restaurant.
The moment they exited, she began to whine. "Are you even legit my brother? My face is all flushed from Alicia's smack, and you didn't back me up. And you just hauled me out of there!"
Morris glanced at her face, observing the five reddish finger marks on her pale skin. His eyes grew darker, and he asked, "What'd you say to her? She smacked you good."
Steaming, Madelyn replied, "I just mentioned how her grandma's death was so conveniently timed that it stopped their divorce. Is that really crossing the line?"
Her plan was to rile Alicia up enough to lash out, hoping to gain Louis's sympathy. However, even though Alicia had struck first this time, Louis still didn't take her side.
Feeling both exasperated and defeated, Madelyn knew her scheme had failed.
Morris smirked, half-chuckling, "No wonder she hit you. I would've done the same. Zip it next time."
