Carrying Alicia to the parked car, Louis opened the door with one hand and gently placed her in the passenger seat. Alicia had cried her heart out, her pale face streaked with tears, looking utterly shattered. Anyone who saw her would feel heartbroken.
Louis got into the car, fastened her seatbelt, and hugged her, whispering softly into her ear, "Stay strong. I'll take you to the hospital right away." Alicia couldn't hear what he was saying; her mind was consumed by thoughts of Véronique.
Louis drove as fast as he could to the hospital. Upon arriving, he got out of the car and opened the door for Alicia. She nearly stumbled as she stepped out, her legs too weak to walk. Louis simply scooped her up and strode towards the inpatient area.
When they arrived at the hospital room, Genevieve was sobbing uncontrollably, her face buried in her hands. Véronique lay on the bed, covered with a white sheet, her face hidden.
