Saturday
Around 8, I decided to over to the motel to check on Tony and Jacob. I made sure to bring two bottle of waters and some aspirin with me. I knocked on the door and it didn't take too long before Jacob opened the door in just a pair of shorts. I saw he had a half sun/ half moon tattoo across the left side of his chest then a star tattoo over the right side of his ribs.
"I thought you two might could use these." I said holding the waters and bottle of aspirin out towards him.
"Thanks." He said taking them.
"Do I even want to know what time you two made it back to this room?" I asked.
"Uh around 1 or 1:30." He said and I nodded my head.
"Well at least you two had fun. I just wanted to drop those off so I'll see you Monday probably." I said.
"I might come to church tomorrow." He said and I gave him a weird look.
"Hey don't judge me." He said and the way he said it made me laugh.
"Not judging just not what I was expecting to hear but you are welcome there anytime." I said and he smiled at me.
"Goodbye Jacob." I said then I started to walk away.
"Lauren, wait up." He said when I was almost to my car.
I turned around to see him walking towards me. I stopped where I was at then he stopped in front of me.
"Would you…" He started to say as he ran his left hand through his hair.
I waited for him to finish the sentence but he never did.
"Would I what?" I asked after two minutes.
"Nothing; forget it." He said shaking his head.
"Jacob, just finish whatever you were going to ask me." I said and he just looked at me.
"Would you want to maybe go on a date with me tonight?" He asked looking me straight in the eyes.
I wasn't expecting him to ask me out and I think it showed on my face because he quickly looked away.
"Forget I asked; I'll see you tomorrow." He said as he turned around to walk away.
"Sure." I said then he quickly turned around to face me.
"Really?" He asked in a surprised voice.
"Yeah; I have to work today but I should be off at 3 so we can do something after that." I said and he smiled at me.
"Ok; what's your address? I can pick you up at your place." He asked still smiling.
"It might be easier if we just meet wherever you want to go since you don't know your way around here yet." I said and he laughed a little bit before nodding his head.
"Alright what about Kerri's Diner at 6?" He asked.
"Sounds good." I said nodding my head.
"Alright I'll see you then." He said smiling.
"Ok." I said.
He smiled at me one last time before turning around and walking away.
All throughout the work day I couldn't stop thinking about the date and whether or not it was a good idea to go on one with him when I barely know him and he is new to town. Right after work, I went straight home. I got to Kerri's Diner at 5:45 and I sat down in a booth near the door because I wanted to be somewhere that Jacob could see me when he got there. When 6:00 came, he still wasn't there and to keep the booth I had to order something so I went ahead ordered me some food. I stayed there until 7:15 and he never showed up. I shook my head because it just confirmed what I was thinking earlier it wasn't a good idea to have said yes to this date since he stood me up.
Sunday
Jacob and Tony both showed up to church and they sat in the very back and pretty much stayed to themselves. After the service was over, I didn't stick around to shake hands with everyone with my dad like I usual do.
Jacob's POV
Tony and I were watching Prison Break reruns around 8:30 at night when there was a knock at the door. I opened the door to see Olivia and she was wearing what looked to be her Sunday best dress. She looked to see Tony then she looked back at me.
"Can we talk outside?" She asked in a mad voice looking at me.
"Okay." I said not sure why she wanted to talk.
I walked outside after she moved away from the door and closed the door behind me. She walked towards a car which I presumed was hers then she leaned against it before giving me a mad look and shaking her head at me.
"What's with the death rays?" I asked stopping in front of her.
"Are you seriously going to stand there and act like you did nothing wrong?" She asked in a really mad voice.
"Yeah because I have no clue what you are talking about." I said.
"You stood up my best friend aka Lauren." She said.
I just looked at her then my eyes got big.
"Yeah you asked her out then didn't bother to even show up to the date but she is too nice of a girl to come chew you out to your face." She said in a mad voice.
I shook my head and ran my left hand through my hair.
"This is why I need to stop after just three beers." I said and she just looked at me.
"It takes me a really long time to sober up; sometimes even if it seems like I'm a functioning person, I still won't remember some of the stuff I did. Some things I remember and some things I don't." I said.
"Okay I'll let you slide this time but not next time." She said before getting in her car.
"Hey, uh where does Lauren live?" I asked before she closed her car door.
"It's a little late to think about paying her a visit Jacob." She said.
I just looked at her and she shook her head.
"You know where the church is at; keep going down that road and it's the 5th house; it's a dark blue and white house if you see a red Chevy Malibu in the driveway then you are at the right house." She said before closing her door.
She rolled down her window after that.
"If you go now, she might still be awake but I wouldn't show up empty handed. She usually goes to bed around 10." She said before backing out of the parking space and I nodded my head.
Lauren's POV
I had just got finished taking a bath and got done putting on lotion when the doorbell rung. I looked at my clock to see it was 9:20. I wasn't expecting anyone so I didn't know who it might be. I grabbed my robe and put it on before walking towards my front door. The doorbell rung again before I made it to my door and when I got to the door, I looked out the little glass cut out in it to see Jacob. I shook my head before opening the door just a little bit.
"Do you know what time it is?" I asked staying hidden a little bit behind the door.
"Yes and I'm sorry. I came over to apologize." He said looking at me.
I saw he had a box of chocolates in his left hand after that.
"Apologize for what?" I asked.
"Can I come in?" He asked.
"I don't think that's a good idea." I said.
"Right; I forgot church girl." He said shaking his head.
"It's not that; it's the fact its late Jacob." I said and he nodded his head.
"I would really like to come in Lauren because this apology would be so much better without a door between us." He said after a minute.
I shook my head before moving a little bit then he smiled before walking inside. I pulled on my robe after closing the door and he turned around to face me.
"Can you make this quick please?" I asked pulling on my robe again.
He looked me up and down when I pulled on the robe then he nodded his head.
"I'm a jerk. I stood you up and I didn't even know it until Olivia came and chewed me out not that long ago." He said looking me straight in the eyes.
"How could you not…" I started to say.
"If I have more than three beers, there's a good chance I won't remember anything I've said or did within a 10 to 12 hour span and that span sometimes doesn't start until after I stop drinking." He said and I shook my head.
"So I don't remember asking you out." He said.
"Not that I didn't want to." He said.
"So could I get a redo on the date?" He asked.
"Lauren, you can trust me. I really didn't mean to stand you up." He said moving a little closer to me.
"I'll think about it. You should go but you can leave the chocolates." I said as he stopped in front of me.
He nodded his head before handing the chocolates to me.
I looked down at the box and saw a piece of paper taped to the box with a number.
"My phone number; just text me when you are ready." He said before walking past me.
"Good night Lauren." He said before opening my front door.
"Good night Jacob." I said before he shut the door and he smiled at me.
