The next day (Sunday; September 11th)
I went over to Jacob's motel room at 7:30 with a bottle of water and some aspirin. I knocked on the door and it didn't take long until he opened the door in just a pair of black shorts. He shook his head and smiled when he saw me.
"Morning Princess." He said leaning against the doorframe.
"I thought you might could use this depending on how much you had to drink last night." I said holding the stuff out towards him.
"Thanks but I'm good. I stopped at 2." He said taking the stuff from me and smiling at me.
"Kind of learned my lesson after I stood up a girl I liked without meaning to." He said.
I nodded my head at him.
"You want to come in?" He asked.
"I probably shouldn't; I have to help get the church ready for service." I said and he nodded his head at me.
"I understand." He said.
"Well I'll see you there and afterwards we can go get lunch." He said smiling at me.
"Sure." I said nodding my head.
"Ok sounds like we have a plan." He said.
"Yeah so until later." I said before backing away from his door.
"Bye Princess." He said shaking his head and smiling at me.
I walked away after that and went straight to the church to help my dad plus a couple of more of the older members of our church get ready for the service. Church service went okay and Jacob sat beside me on the third row with Olivia and Greg. Afterwards, all of us went to Kerri's Diner to eat.
"Girl, he can tell something is up. You two have to talk about it." Olivia said to me when Greg and Jacob were at the jukebox trying to pick out some songs.
"How do I bring it up though Olivia without sounding dumb?" I asked.
"You aren't going to sound dumb Lauren." She said.
"Sure I am; I am sure he has kissed plenty of girls before and done more than that with them." I said twirling my straw around in my drink.
"Oh so that is what you are hung up on the fact that he has probably been with other girls in an intimate way." She said dropping her voice to a low tone and looking at me.
"Honey, then you two really do need to talk." She said still in a low tone.
"I am the Christian girl who has never got past making out with a guy and it's no telling how far…" I started to say in a low voice.
"Hey, stop going there Lauren and just talk to him." She said shaking her head at me.
"Sure and how do you think that's conversation going to go uh Jacob we need to talk I'm almost 29 and I'm still a virgin." I said twirling my straw even more and she just stared at me.
"It's the truth and he deserves to know and he probably already suspects it Lauren. Open communication is what's important okay; Greg didn't freak out." She said.
"But we have known Greg since 5th grade and he was raised in the church with us." I said.
We didn't say anything else after that because Greg and Jacob rejoined us.
"What are you girls talking about?" Greg asked kissing Olivia on the right cheek.
"Just girl stuff." Olivia said smiling at him.
I picked up my drink and drink some of it as Jacob looked at me.
The waitress brought our food not long after that and we all started talking about how our work week was looking and when we could all get together again. After a little bit we all agreed on getting together Tuesday night at Joe's Cavern which wasn't that big of a surprise since this Tuesday was karaoke night. After the diner, Jacob walked me back to my house and we didn't talk.
"You are doing the quiet thing again princess." He said as we stepped onto my porch.
"You want to come inside?" I asked.
"Are you sure?" He asked because I've never invited him inside before.
"If you want to, you can." I said unlocking the door.
"Sure." He said as I opened the door.
After he walked inside, I closed the door behind him.
"Just sit down wherever you like, I'm going to go to the bathroom then take these shoes off then I'll be back." I said before walking towards the back of the house and he nodded his head.
I took my shoes off in my room before going to the bathroom.
"Can I get a drink?" He asked as I was washing my hands in the bathroom.
"Sure; I should have some sodas or water in the refrigerator." I said.
I heard him walk into the kitchen after that.
"You have a nice kitchen." He said as I walked into the kitchen as he closed the refrigerator after getting a bottle of water.
"Thanks." I said.
"You're welcome." He said.
I walked towards the living room after that and he followed me. I sat down on the couch that was against the wall where you could see the front door. He sat down beside me and he kept some distance between us before turning to face me.
"So I know there's a reason you invited me inside; are you ready to tell me what's going in that mind of yours?" He asked before opening his water and drinking some of it.
"I like you Jacob." I said.
"I was kind of hoping you did since you are my girlfriend and I like you too." He said looking at me.
"How many girls have…" I started to say and he shook his head.
"So we are at that point in the relationship okay." He said nodding his head.
He turned to put his water bottle on the coffee table then turned back to face me.
"Before I tell you how many I've been let's say intimate with, be honest with me are you a virgin?" He asked interlacing his fingers with mine on my right hand.
I nodded my head.
"Do you really want to know then?" He asked.
"Jacob." I said.
"Ok." He said.
When he didn't say anything after a minute I gave him a look.
"6." He said.
I slowly nodded my head.
"Hey, I'm not pressuring you to do anything." He said tilting my chin so I would look at him again when I looked down and away from him.
"But I'm not going to lie if you ask me anything because I know you aren't going to lie to me Lauren." He said squeezing my right hand.
"I have a past; you knew that and that's what it is Lauren. It is a past which means it is in the past. Am I happy about everything I've done in the past no but I can't take it back." He said looking me straight in the eyes.
"And I don't have a problem with you being a virgin." He said.
"So I'm guessing you've been wondering this because you want to move forward in this relationship." He said.
"I want to kiss you." I said in a low voice.
He nodded his head.
"Well, princess that's all you had to say because I want to give you a real kiss and I've just been waiting for you to say it was okay." He said moving his face closer to mine.
His lips grazed mine then he pulled back a little bit looking at me again before kissing me. The kiss was short and sweet. Afterwards, he smiled at me.
"So the most you ever done is making out with someone." He said and I nodded my head.
"Good enough for me." He said before kissing my forehead.
I pulled away from him after that and he grabbed his bottle of water before drinking more of it.
"Jacob." I said and he looked at me.
"Yes princess." He said smiling at me.
"You'll tell me one day why you were in prison right?" I asked and he stopped smiling.
"Yeah one day but not yet." He said squeezing my right hand.
"Ok I'll be here when you are ready to tell me." I said and he smiled at me.
"You mind if I borrow your bathroom?" He asked.
"No; go ahead." I said and he let go of my hand before standing up.
"It's the second door on your left down the hall." I said and he nodded his head before heading down the hall.
When he came back, he said he should get going back to the motel to clean up and everything before church service later. I told him okay and walked him to the door. He kissed me on the left cheek before walking away.
