The next day was panning out to be the same as the other day's, Diedrich summoned a few villagers, added some to the military, and began the training of the rank zero citizens although, only five for now.
Currently Diedrich was supervising two villagers training.
"No, when you block a vertical strike, you don't just block horizontally, you have to try and parry the blow, not only will this cause you to receive less backlash from the attack it makes it easier to counter attack".
Although Diedrich was no expert in the spear he had become quite decent and was just telling them basic things, while a soldier with the actual class told them the proper technique.
Telling the rank zero's to continue sparring Diedrich was startled as he heard a commotion in the village, turning towards the sound of the noise Diedrich saw a soldier briskly walking towards him.
"Report for you Chief".
The soldier that had walked towards him and saluted him was Hans, Diedrich was a bit weirded out by the fact that he talked to him as if he was an actual general, however Hans explained that he used to be in the army and that following such a protocol was the correct way of addressing a superior and would instill discipline in soldiers.
Diedrich saw the value in it if they had an actual large army, however, there were only 10 soldiers currently so he felt it was unnecessary, however unable to convince Hans Diedrich decided to let it be.
Diedrich sighed as he asked, "What is the report Hans?"
"While patrolling the perimeter, Alex's team encountered someone unconscious covered in blood with a deep gash on the right arm, first they taught it was a villager but upon closer inspection turned out to not be someone from the village".
"Is he currently being treated?" Diedrich questioned.
"He was brought into one of residence huts, and is being treated by a woman who said he was in critical condition".
A bit shocked Diedrich asked Hans to quickly guide him to the wounded man.
Diedrich was led to a small wooden hut surrounded by the rest of the village who were all trying to look inside curious about the wounded man.
Diedrich understood why the people were curious as this was the first fatally injured person they had probably seen in their life, but Diedrich was still a bit irked that they had all stopped working to see what was going on, making him regret not haven appointed anyone to oversee the villagers work.
Walking through the door and closing it behind him with Hans, Diedrich saw a man laying unconscious on a wooden bed, with a bloody arm now completely full of stitches with a pretty brunet next to him making a tourniquet out of cloth.
Hearing someone walk into the room the woman first became irritated but realising it wasn't a nosy villager but the chief her annoyance disappeared and she calmly said "Hello chief" and then went back to making the tourniquet.
Having brought Diedrich to the woman Hans excused himself and joined his team again for patrol.
Diedrich seeing the unconscious and pale looking man asked "How is he?".
"Not great, although I have managed to close up the wound and stop the bleeding, he has lost a lot of blood and developed a high fever, he might also develop an infection due to the equipment I used to stitch his wounds not being disinfected, so without medical supplies, he probably won't survive the night", the woman responded.
"What would he need to survive do you think?".
Looking at him with a bit of pity in her eyes she said "Probably a blood transfusion, some kind of disinfectant, paracetamol, lots of water and a whole lot of luck".
"So he's basically doomed you're saying?"
"Unless you have something that can magically cure him, Yes "
Trying to think of any way Diedrich could save him he eventually came to a conclusion and groaned a bit when he taught of it, and that was using the bone apple. The bone apple would increase his constitution which in turn would make him heal faster and produce blood faster, Diedrich knew this as his condition after the fight with the toxic swamp snake was much worse.
Telling the woman that he had a cure and would be back in a bit, when he returned he had two blood apples in his hands, he first wanted to keep all of them to farm them later, however since he had three left he decided to use two.
Seeing the magical fruit the woman was a bit shocked but proceeded to crush the apple in a mortar and pestle Diedrich had quickly made for her and she fed it to the unconscious man.
Not a minute later his complexion started looking a bit better although he still looked white as a ghost, the woman told Diedrich that he would need plenty of water to regenerate his blood.
Diedrich told some villagers to collect water from the lake, and then went back to the woman still looking over the condition of the man, and asked her " What is your name actually?".
"My name is Bella Chief", she replied.
"How did you know all of this medical stuff, are you a doctor?", although Diedrich said it she looked quite young, so he didn't think she was a full fledged doctor yet.
"Well almost I was a doctor in training, I needed two more years to become an official one, but the stuff I just did was pretty basic".
Impressed Diedrich asked, " Would you like to become the head of the medical division?".
Shocked she said, " Since when was there a medical division? Also I am much too underqualified for that".
Diedrich smiled as he stated, " It is a new division I have just created, and for now since our numbers are small you will be the only one in it, also you are the only one in the village with actual experience and as long as you can adapt and use new and inventive way's to use technologies such as this fruit, then it doesn't matter if you are a real doctor as pretty soon I think their methods will become obsolete".
Agreeing with what the chief said she eventually agreed and said "Then I would be honoured".
Happy and relieved Diedrich thanked her and told her that he would soon begin construction for the medical division and that he would need her input on how she would like the building to be designed.
After saying his piece he left the building and continued to oversee and train the rank zero's.
At the end of the training he first took two into the jungle to fight beasts making them reach level 5 easily as he ran into two wolves at level 13.
After that, he took the other 3 into the woods and they managed to level up twice after defeating a few boars between levels 3-5.
Diedrich was not very impressed by the trainees but their skills would develop eventually however, for now, they needed Diedrich to help them with taking down a single boar, Diedrich didn't know why it was so hard as he had been able to kill a boar at level one alone although he used the treant to help the treant was weaker than him so he felt that he was either a genius at combat or these people were just really bad at fighting, making him lean towards him being a genius.
After the training, Diedrich explored the jungle again making him level up once and his treant too, he also sneakily killed a few cassowaries and carried them to Tarak village, much to the joy of the citizens as word had spread around about the juicy taste of their meat and Diedrich had brought enough for everyone.
After a sumptuous meal, Diedrich slept.
The next morning he summoned two rank 1 villagers and it turned out one of them wasn't a warrior.
The rank one who wasn't a warrior turned out to be a woman named Elisabeth, she looked plain except for her red hair which gave her a fierce look. She told Diedrich she previously worked for a transport company and was in charge of logistics.
Hearing this Diedrich thought he had found the right person to oversee the operations of the village, Diedrich appointed her as village manager and told her that she would be in charge of making sure operations were on task and that she would give out tasks to make sure the development of the village stayed on track.
A bit overwhelmed, Diedrich told her to first get familiar with the village's operations for the day, and tell him if she would accept the job later.
Having given out tasks, Diedrich saw Bella walk towards him. She told him the man had awakened and he followed her to his hut.
Entering the hut Diedrich saw the man sitting upright against his bed, his face was no longer pale, but, his eyes looked weary.
Seeing Diedrich enter with Bella he asked " Is this you're leader?".
"Yes", Bella answered.
"Then I must thank you, If not for you and Bella I would have surely died alone in the jungle".
"Yeah no problem, but how did you exactly end up in that situation".
"Well, it's not exactly a pretty story are you sure you want to hear it?"
Not expecting such an answer Diedrich said yes.
"Oke, well like you know after the end of the trial we all got transported to a big open field and found ourselves in this new world, I was alone and didn't know what to do, but luckily someone asked me to join their group, the group wasn't big with only five people, there was one rank three who was the leader and the rest were rank 2".
"The leader said that he had a village creation cube, so after traveling a distance away from the others, we made our base next to a mountain".
"There we learned that villagers could be spawned, well actually people from our world who had died during the trial, after that we lived the day's out relatively peacefully, the creatures in the surroundings couldn't handle the leader who was an elementalist and he could easily destroy them using vines in some sort of magical way, the other three were warriors could also defeat them relatively easily, except for me though as I chose the artisan class so fighting wasn't my forte, although they did help me out a bit and I was able to gain a few levels."
"Everything went pretty well until, two days ago when our leader learned that he could invite us to become villagers of his village".
"Us having noticed that the villagers all had a strange sense of loyalty towards him, naturally declined, and although not happy the leader understood our point of view and accepted it".
"That night however, I was awoken by screams, as I quickly rushed out of my room I saw one of the rank 2 warriors named Richard getting pierced through the chest by a sword, and behind him, I saw the other warriors dead on the ground with ashen expressions".
"The one piercing him was another one of the warriors named Jack".
"Seeing me, he lunged forward and swung his sword, I managed to jump back into my room however my arm was cut open pretty badly, before he could further attack me the leader luckily intervened and stopped him".
"Angered the leader asked why he had done all this, however before the warrior could respond the leader suddenly began to puke blood and collapsed to the floor".
"The Jack then walked up to him and said that he should have never trusted him as he raised his sword, however before he could swing down I used my ability to summon a boar which hit him in the back".
Diedrich baffled then interrupted "Wait, wait, wait, I thought you were an Artisan how can you could you summon a boar?".
Seeing the problem the man explained, "Well my class is called Animal Insignier and it allows me to make insignias on wooden panels that can sort of absorb beasts under rank 2 into them after they have been put into a weakened state, the insignia can be bound to someone and then the person can summon the beast and control them whenever he wants".
Diedrich was impressed and curious about the ability but told the man to continue his story.
"So having distracted the warrior, I quickly lifted up the leader and put him over my shoulder and tried to run out of the building as I summoned 4 more beasts to hold off the warrior, once outside I quickly ran to one of the houses while yelling for help".
The man's voice now became filled with anger as he turned his hands into a tight fist with his nails digging into his flesh threatening to create wounds, as a tear fell down his face.
"Going into the house I was immediately assaulted by a stench of iron, as I found the people staying there all dead with a look of horror in their eyes laying across the floor with a pool of blood escaping from their lips, checking the other houses I found them all dead. Even the child who had been summoned was dead, the kid was 9 years old, NINE YEARS!".
Diedrich and Bella both had mournful and shocked expressions on their faces as they could not or rather did not want to believe people were capable of committing such atrocities.
The man then continued, "After searching four houses and seeing the people in a similar state, I heard the warrior searching for me, he had already slain my summons, so carrying the leader I made a desperate attempt to escape into the jungle, however he had spotted me and being defenceless and slower than the warrior I knew it would only take a minute for him to reach me. The leader realising the same thing told me to leave him behind, he told me he was not going to make it anyway and the least he could do was let me escape."
The man then increased the force in his hands making it start to bleed as more tears started to stream down his face, "Realising he was right I left him there to die, so that I could survive".
"After that, I continued running for a long time too scared to look back until I ended up here".
