Chapter 9 - Chapter 9

"Ajay please," I cry as he prepares to meet with Zero. I follow him into the trailer, I understand that he is beyond mad.

"Zare, Zero lied to me, I need to know why." Ajay turns around with a red face

"He has always been helpful, we can trust me." I grab his hand.

"I'm only going to speak with him." He says.

"And if he did lie to you, betrayed us, what then?

"I don't know." He shakes his head.

I feel my whole body shake, I am terrified because I know Ajay doesn't listen to reason. Likewise, I know he'll do anything to protect the pack.

"Can I at least come with you?"

"Zare, I don't know, you shouldn't." He tells me while throwing the last few things in the bag.

Chetan enters the trailer and stands in the doorway. "I guess we could both come, he might say more with Zare there," he suggests.

"And if there's a fight, you're going to keep her under control," Ajay glances toward me.

"Yeah, she'll be fine," Chetan answers.

"Fine," Ajay says and takes a deep breath.

After telling the Pack members goodbye and witnessing Dev's celebration because he was finally put in charge, we march towards the River Monsters cave. I feel a lump in my throat as my feet walk through the thick leaves. Listening to the sounds of the forest does nothing for my nerves this time.

I look at the trees whose branches sway in the breeze, the trees go on for miles and miles. Finally, we change into our wolves and dash toward the river.

The smell of sweet scent stops me in my tracks. My veins burn with desire and pure lust. Dixon is near, and I can feel him. Stopping right in my tracks, I quit running. He was very near.

I imagine him kissing me, his hands gently laying me on a bed decorated with red lace with a huge black canopy. We are alone in a room, with nothing but that bed and the brick wall. I shake my head, feeling ashamed of my fantasy.

"Dixon is near."

Finally reaching Zero's cave, Dixon's scent grew strong by the moment. I carved him, and I want him.

"Well well well, look what the cat dragged in. Or should I say river monster?" Dixon laughs.

"What do you want, Dixon?" Hiss Ajay.

"Boy my little Pet turned out to be very helpful," laughs Dixon with evil written all over his face. His eyes glow red as he squints through them.

"And how is that? You used him to withhold information. Very clever," smirks Chetan.

"Let me lay this out for you perfectly clear, that syrup Zare drank was laced with my blood, now she's blood bound to me. And I know just to look at me is driving her nuts," he smirks at me, walking over he runs his finger over my lower lip.

Looking into his eyes, I wanted to throw myself at him. His little touch on my lip wasn't enough.

"Keep your distance," hiss Chetan, stepping towards us.

"All you have to do is say the word, and that fantasy in that beautiful red and black bed will be all yours," Dixon tells me, rubbing his hand over my face.

Ajay jumps into the water, I hear a splash breaking me from the spell, I am under with Dixon. Turning, I try to follow Ajay, but I feel Chetan's arms around my waist.

I scream. "Ajay no."

Hearing the howling in pain from Zero, my heart breaks. I fall to the ground and break free from Chetan's hold. I put my hands over my face, sobbing uncontrollably.

I hear the crushing of glass, sounds like falling potions. I hear thumping and pounding. It sounds like a great fight is taking place.

When my eyes see Ajay arriving at the surface, he is covered in blood. His clothes were soaked in red. He walks over and drops Zero's head at Dixon's feet. The head rolls. Getting a good look at Zero's head, I want to puke. Blood still leaks out of where his neck used to be. The smell was awful, and I could almost taste the metallic in my own mouth.

"This is what happens when you use your friends to betray me," Ajay yells.

Dixon lets out a cry and a scream. "How dare you," he says. He breathes heavily, and his Fits shake uncontrollably.

"What did you do?" I scream. The anger and rage I feel inside of me are uncontrollable. I race to Ajay, lifting my hand in the air. I go to strike him, but he catches my hand in midair.

"I don't think so Zare," Ajay lifts a brow at me.

"Come, Zare, let yourself have the life you truly desire. I will let you be free and I will make you feel alive," Dixon reaches out his hand.

I glanced at Ajay, who was covered in Zero's blood. He looked just like AB after a kill. I shake my head, letting the wetness of my tears soak my shirt.

"I hate you," I glare at Ajay.

"Zare, just calm down," Ajay tells me.

I take a step towards Dixon. His scent swept over me, his smile charming me.

"That's a girl," Dixon grins.

I feel strong arms around my waist. "Zare, I love you," Chetan says. He then kisses my neck.

I close my eyes, thinking about Chetan's kiss, making love to him at night, and all the times I thought I lost him.

I turn around to face him, and he wipes the tears from my eyes. "Dixon is bad Zare, you know you don't want him," he tells me.

I nod.

He picks me up, sweeping me off my feet. I bury my head into his chest, as I cry.

We start walking back towards camp, I hear Dixon scream the worst pain I've ever heard. It was a shrinking high pitched sound, sending the fairies and birds out of the trees.

I pretend like I am sleeping to avoid any interaction my mind can't handle. I will get my revenge on Ajay.

"Why, Ajay, why kill Zero?" Chetan asks.

Ajay takes a deep breath. "He was evil and working for Dixon."

"He admitted to it?"

"He attacked me first, admitting to everything, rambling on about how Zare would be the evilest queen."

"Wow, and the times he was alone with Zare." I feel Chetan kiss my head.

"She can hate me, I did what was needed to do."
