Chapter 18 - The Sirens

Once back at camp, I can't get Rowdy from my mind. He must be so upset with himself for trusting the vampires. I am thankful Ajay is a smart, caring, and capable leader.

I see Kiara sitting by herself. It's been a while since I spoke with my sister. I move over and take a seat next to her.

"You okay?"

"Yeah, I am." She smiles.

I laugh. When I see the gang throwing a potato around pretending it's a football. Dev runs while everyone is changing him. This is the most epic game of football you'll ever see, because everyone is so fast.

"You don't want to play football?"

She shakes her head. She seems upset.

"I know you well enough to know when something is wrong."

"Cricket and I agreed not to tell anyone right now," she tells me. This is serious, what is she talking about?

"I understand." I smiled, even though I really wanted to know.

She looks towards the pack playing, and she smiles.

" I am really grateful we ran into another pack," she says.

"Me too, we met some great people."

"Cricket is amazing," she says.

"I am so glad for you." I smile while taking her hand.

"You and Chetan have been through a lot. Have you ever talked about having kids?" She asks me.

I look at her. I can see it in her eyes. That Sparkle. "Are you pregnant?"

She looks strangely at me for a moment. Then she nods her head.

"Like officially, you took a pregnancy test?"

"No, but I'm 3 weeks late on my period," she explains.

"I know you guys probably want to wait before you tell people, but you need to have the boys go to the market and get you a pregnancy test to verify it, we can get some vitamins, increase your milk intake, and make sure we have plenty of fruits and vegetables."

She laughs. "I know."

"I'm just really excited."

"I know you would be, I'm going to tell Cricket we need to get to the market, sooner than later people need to know," she tells me. '

"Good."

"You think Ajay is going to flip out?" She asks.

"I don't really know, but I think he's going to want to be more protective over you, and he's going to want to know so we can make extra trips to get things you need."

"Yeah," she says.

I see the game has stopped and Chetan is approaching me.

"Don't tell Chetan, you know he'll just tell Dev," she says.

"I won't talk about it until you do."

"Thanks," she remarks.

I watch Chetan run his fingers through his sweaty hair. He takes off his shirt and throws it over his shoulder.

"You want to do a zombie run Zare?" He asks me.

I see Cricket walking toward us too. He sits next to Kiara on the opposite side.

"I'll be back," I pat Kiara's leg.

She smiles and nods.

"Let's just walk," Chetan says as we move towards the woods.

I laugh. "Okay."

"What did you and Kiara talk about?" He asks.

"Nothing really normal stuff we always talk about."

"Oh, fun," says Chetan.

I'm glad he dropped that easily.

Halfway to the Cemetery, after many moments of walking, I smell a scent I never smelled before. Something is near us. But who or what? I look around.

"What's wrong?" Chetan asks. He seems very paranoid

"Smell something."

"Alce, AB?" he asks.

I shake my head. "Something new."

"Should we turn back?" He asks.

"No."

The more we walk, the stronger the scent got. Finally, I see the new creatures in plain sight. A group of females surrounded the water. I counted a group of six.

Their high-pitched screeching filled my ears. The pain shoots right into my head. I hear the voice in my head.

"Those are Sirens, very bad news Zare, we need to leave," Chetan tells me.

"I need to know more about them."

"Zare, No," Chetan grabs my hand. Those Sirens were so intriguing. Their voices call me to them. I felt like I have no control over my feet.

"Zare my beauty comes," one sings to me.

Chetan wraps his arms around me. "Zare, let's go," he yells.

I practically drag Chetan towards the water. The Sirens look like mermaids, except for one major difference: they almost look like birds. They had feathers covering their upper body, a face like a human, but a tail like a mermaid.

"Come to me, my beauty," giggles a Siren. It was evident that she was the leader of all the other ones circling her.

Once I was at the side of the water. I hear Chetan take off. My eyes couldn't look, I couldn't break my stare on the siren.

The siren's scaly hands touch the side of my face. Her eyes glow a deep blue. In a weird way, they were sort of beautiful.

"Join us," she says to me.

"I am not a siren."

She laughs. "There's no need to be," she touches my face again.

They sing again. Except for this time, it sounds beautiful and inviting. I step one foot into the water. They all smile and seem so accepting of me.

I feel teeth pulling on my shirt. I can't look back. My eyes won't move from the siren.

"Stop your enchantment on her," Ajay yells.

"I'm doing you a favor, grat Alpha," the Siren says.

I finally fall to the ground backwards from Ajay and Chetan pulling me back. I see Chetan looking me right in the eyes. He looks so upset, he brings his lips to mine. I kiss him passionately. The mark mate's feelings are more powerful than a siren enchantment.

"What do you mean you're doing me a favor?" Ajay asks.

"Don't waste your time, sirens play games."

"They can also see the future," Ajay remarks.

"You'll find out soon enough, great Alpha," the siren says.

We walk away ,and I do not look back.

" Do you really think the siren could be doing you a favor by taking Zare?" Chetan asks.

"No, why?" Ajay asks.

"You asked her how she could be doing you a favor," Chetan remarks.

"You know I would never want anything to happen to you Zare, but it has crossed my mind with you putting the pack in danger, and us trying to get you out of trouble, someone is going to get hurt. Maybe that's what she's talking about," Ajay says.

"Understandable." I look at the ground.

"She was enchanted today, it wasn't her fault," Chetan says.

"I know," Ajay says.

Finally, we arrive at the camp. I have a major headache and a horrible taste in my mouth, so I decide to lay down. Moving over to my sleep area, I grab my head. My legs feel wobbly as the world spins around me. I feel Chetan strong's arms around my waist and my body lift off the ground. I nestle my head into his chest.

He lays me down. "Are you okay Zare?" He asks.

I nod. Just feeling a little woozy.

Chetan lays next to me. That's the last thing I remember until my eyes closed.

"She is the one with the heart everyone loves," Ajay says, pointing to me.

"Then there is only one thing to do," says Smoke.

"No, we can't," yells Chetan.

I see this lady. Her hair was made out of a rattlesnake, and she slithered on the ground.

She hisses at me. The wolf pack moves out of the way. It is perfectly clear that they're no longer protecting me. She lunges at me, her sharp teeth showing, and her snake hair rattles.

Screaming, I bottled up right from sleeping. "Zare, what's wrong?" Chetan asks.

I breathe rapidly. Closing my eyes. I tried to unsee the pack no longer defending me.

"Zare," Chetan grabs my face with his hands.

"Bad dream." Or was it a vision?
