Chapter 1 - PROLOGUE

The smell of gunpowder and blood permeated the battlefield as I walked through, surrounded by bodies. This was what we called war. As a soldier in my country's army, I was the only survivor, and there may have been none on the enemy's side. I continued walking, hoping to find survivors, until I saw a figure ahead. I couldn't confirm if its an enemy or friend, so I aimed my musket rifle.

"Who are you? Are you an enemy or friend? Turn around so I can see your face," I demanded. The figure slowly turned, revealing a girl with silver hair and red eyes, dressed in a military uniform. Those red eyes indicated that she was a demon. "Put your sword down!" I ordered. She dropped her sword easily, without hesitation, and I approached her slowly. She began to speak.

"What will you do to me? Kill me? Make me a slave? Rape me? You humans are the worst species to have ever lived in this world. You just keep killing and enslaving my kind. We just want to coexist with you, and you declare war on us. We just want peace!"

I didn't understand what she was talking about. I thought the demon lord declared war on humanity, but she said humans declared war on her race. Well, I could understand how she felt. In my old world, war and racism were the same as in this world.

"Relax, I will not hurt you," I said, dropping my weapon to show her that I didn't intend any harm. "See, I dropped my weapon. I don't intend any harm to you. I just want to talk with you."

"I don't trust you. Your race is always evil and greedy. How can I trust you if you are of the same race as my enemy and the one who enslaves my people?" she said, clearly not convinced.

"Well, I can't get close to you, so how about we just talk at a distance of five meters? I don't have my weapon; I just threw it, and you can pick up your sword. You are on the battlefield, which means you are strong even though you are a girl. At that range, you can react if I attack you. Will you accept it or not?" I suggested.

After some hesitation, she agreed to my proposal. "Why do you want to talk? Why not just go back to your camp or country?" she asked.

"After what I did, I can't go back,"

"What did you do?" she asked.

"I betrayed my race and killed my comrades," I said, expecting her to be shocked.

Instead, she simply asked, "Don't you say that white light and the big explosion are your doing?"

I nodded. "Yes, that's my doing. I intended to betray them and my race in order to create a utopia."

"A world where all races coexist peacefully and there is no prejudice, slavery, or war?" she asked.

"Yes, exactly. Whether you are a demon, demi-human, a human, or an elf, you no longer have to worry about discrimination or racism," I explained.

"How can you do that? If you are alone, do you intend to make your own race hate you?" she questioned.

"Yes, if it means making the world peaceful. Forgive me, but I have a request for you," I said.

"What is it?" she asked.

"Can I join your army, the Demon Legion, and help me achieve my goal, Princess?" I asked.

"What! How do you know that I am a princess?" she asked, surprised.

"It's because I used my skill, the demon eyes

How did you do that? I thought demon eyes were only for the demon race,"

"I don't know why, but I have them, along with dark magic,"

"Anyway, will you accept my request?"

"Well, I accept your request and I will help you achieve your goal,"

"Thank you very much. My name is Captain Frederick Wilhem of the 12th Army of the People. And may I ask your name?" I introduced myself and asked politely.

"My name is Princess Amellia Stadfeld of the Kingdom of De La Liberté. Nice to meet you, Captain Wilhem," she said with a small smile.

And with that, our fates became intertwined. This was the start of my new life, where I was reincarnated to help change this world in ways that I was unable to do in my past life.
