A tapping at the window made me stop in my tracks. As I listened intently, the voices downstairs had also stopped and were listening for the tapping. I tiptoed over to the window and peeked through the curtains, and sure enough, Hera was staring intently back at me below me. His face lit up when he saw me, making things seem more like a game when he took a dangerous chance.
"Hera, what are you doing here?" I whispered under my breath at him.
"Open the window; not all of us can hear through glass," he complained.
Smiling, I opened the window and allowed the cool night air to fill the room, bringing the smell of nature and a refreshing odour. I could hear the animals as they hurried to collect their food for the night, and I thought how lucky they were that I had found a solid blood supply and wouldn't be having them for my evening meal.
"What do you want, Hera?" I asked.
