I knew my new family or coven, whichever they called themselves, was awaiting our return. I could sense it in the air as much as I could feel the tension that had built up suddenly between Charles and me. Neither of us spoke on the way to the great house but occasionally glanced at each other and shared tiny smiles of trust and hope. The only chance we had to be peaceful together would be when the rest of the coven accepted me and offered their protection without Charles' input.
We saw the house come into view over the rolling hills. Only then did I realise how far we had walked and how fast? My thoughts kept me occupied most of the way as I wondered if Charles did the same.
"Charles, how will I let Hera know about tonight?"
Charles sighed as he pulled out his mobile phone and began to speak, slowly holding the phone out to me. This new addition to my life, the cell phone, had been a shock at first, and I hadn't spoken of one before.
