"Nessy, are you ok?" Charles asked, putting his arms around me.
Seemingly at ease, his eyes flashed toward the door, and it slammed shut from the breeze.
"I'm fine. I could have handled it. Although I'm only half-vampire, I can fight with the same strength and speed," I muttered.
"I know, but sweetheart, the thought of you getting hurt by a member of our coven sickens me and terrifies me. I wouldn't know what to do. Would I rip the other person's head off for even attempting to hurt you or kneel by your side to heal you?" he explained, staring into my eyes.
I look back at him, wondering why I suddenly deserved his protection. He would even willingly protect me from a member of his own coven.
Only Charles and Melody seem to accept my presence; as for the others, they seem to resent my being there.
