Chapter 2 - 2) Happy Birthday

Ugg, the floor again. They pushed me off the bed again didn't they. Bastard.

I push myself up. Body aching after being throw on the floor by my beloved pet blob.

Surprisingly I'm not even near the bed. Did I get drunk? It's not likely. Though I've drunken a couple times I've never been drunk. I just can't stand the taste of alcohol.

I sit on the ground confused about how I got here. Though this studio apartment is small, it isn't that small.

I must have fallen asleep playing with Blobbles. I mean, I also worked pretty hard last night. I wanted to make up for taking a couple days off for my birthday.

Gosh I shouldn't work so hard. It gave me such a weird dream to fall asleep on the floor. Not to mention sore body.

No point in me working harder.

'Binding complete.'

As the light popped up I flinched. I knew deep down that it wasn't a dream but I wanted to keep everything simple.

This is not the plan I had. This isn't what I wanted.

'Allow me to explain your system.'

I sighed. This is happening to me wether I want it to or not. Why must life be so complicated?

'This is the sign-in and quest system. You will be given a location within an achievable vicinity to sign in. Than you will be given quests. Upon completion you will receive rewards.'

Okay. At least it seems simple.

I'm familiar with this concept. I read some novels with this concept.

Basically they sign in and receive absurd things that immediately make their life complicated. Usually money, cars, a business or two, harem of women, a perfect body, skills, and other things that were just the writers person fantasy.

The main character becomes numb to money and luxury having everything handed to them. Then you sprinkle in a little bit of plot.

Though if this one is also questing system I guess it'll feel more like I earned it than it was handed to me. Also it will get me going places. Blobbles will always love more walks.

Though I'm not really in need of such a thing. My life is perfectly fine.

'There are three quests per day. You will choose your quest by choosing your category of rewards. The three are Items, Skills, and Stats. Also only one per day.'

Okay. Three a day seems bugged if it's like it was in those stories. It'll be way too bugged.

'Quest difficulty will be determined by your current stats, level of health, and items on your person or in the area. So will the rewards.'

Okay there it is. Balanced. In a way.

'If you leave the vicinity of sign-in location, quest will be reset or paused. If you receive a quest you do not like you do not have to complete it. There is no penalty for not completing any and all quests. Although failing some quests will have consequences.'

Okay so I could have ignored all of this and just went on with my life.

'First Sign-in location, Fire Grass Park.'

Though now that I know... I might as well.

I mean Blobbles loves that park. It's not gonna hurt anything if I take them for a walk and just check it out.

I mean there is a lot to consider. If I go down this road I will not be average anymore. It's just a given.

I'll have skills and things I didn't have before. It won't be possible to turn back.

I groaned laying on the floor.

I didn't want this. I didn't want power like this.

I want to be ordinary and have a happy good easy life. I like drama. Just not my own.

I love to read or hear about problems. Hell I'll egg people on to start a fight if I got a good seat.

I mean that's nothing too weird. Everyone likes a good story. When it's not them.

"Uggg Blobbles what do we do?" I looked at my beloved pet.

Although I wasn't expecting an answer they gave me one.

The walked away. Then after a moment they returned with my largest pan. Dropping it, not elegantly at all, on my stomach.

"Oof... okay. Fair point. I need food." I grabbed the pan standing up. Walking not very far to my stove.

I'm actually pretty luck that I know some base level magic, cause it means I don't have to buy mana stones for things like cooking or turning on lights.

Though it takes time I can just change the stones. Using the mana within me. As small as it is.

So I technically can cook all I want without having to be to conservative.

I quickly made my Birthday Breakfast. Pancakes of course and a Chiming slice. A meat that is like a less greasy type of bacon but, well it's a fish. Despite the bacon taste and appearance.

I eat quickly and just sat for a bit before coming to a conclusion.

I won't be able to settle my mind until I go. I will go today and complete three quests.

Even though a simple life is what I want, I can't push the idea of what if. Having power isn't a bad thing. I doesn't have to change things.

At the end of the day I'm a commoner. No one expects much from me.

I got changed, finally out of my work clothes, into simple clothes. Long sleeves shirt, pants, boots and a cloak.

The cloak is better than most of the clothes I own, it is starting to fray cause I wear it everywhere. I'll probably have to sew it one day soon.

Once I finished getting ready Blobbles was already at my feet holding his leash. I smiled at them. I grabbed it without hesitation and attached I to the collar.

"Good job. That was very good."

Blobs don't technically have eyes or noses. They sense everything threw mana. Except for noise and taste. They have hidden ears, and mouth.

They regurgitate waste and develop the organs they need to produce once a decade. Though two Blobs make 30 eggs minimum. 3092 In the current world record. It is pretty gross though.

Never recommend watching it.

I shivered thinking about the, unique, experience.

Pushing that thought away, I exit and head on our way.
