It's been a week since I came to this house. I'm already used to working as Mariane's some kind of butler, and actually all of the tasks she gave me are really simple, such as cooking, baking, watering the flowers, and cleaning the house, except she doesn't like the idea of me doing the laundry since she doesn't like me cleaning her clothes. I actually understand the reason, but why did she include mine? I do not have the courage to ask, so I let her do the laundry by herself.
She always feels exhausted when she gets home from work, so I make an effort to make her happy with my cooking and my attention to housekeeping. I ask her what she does for a living, but it appears that she is just 18 years old, still in high school, and doesn't appear to work for anyone given that she comes from a wealthy family. She does not want to live close by though because she was always forced to get married to a another wealthy family.
As I was cleaning the bookshelf something caught my interest. It was a magical book with six colours that represents each magic fire, water, wind, earth, light, and dark. As I opened the book, I saw that my limitations prevented me from learning all magic because every entity had unique traits, ranging from one to three. One attribute is typical for a creature, two are uncommon, and three are only seen in extremely strong beings who some people will revere as a god. But I'm still unsure of my capabilities. I therefore put the book away for the time being because it might come in use later.
As I finished cleaning her house I took a bath then I relax on the couch for the time being but I still can't stop thinking about that mysterious book so I took the book then I ask her what are the type of elements that I am capable of. She then checked my stats and abilities.
"It seems you're only capable of defensive light magic"
"That sounds cool!, So what kind of magic is that?"
"You can only summon shields"
"Oh, I see..."
"But anyway that's not the book you should learn from, here is a book for your abilities"
I took the book and headed out into the forest to test it out. I wasn't unhappy with it, cause it seems like it was a strong shield. But out of curiosity, I tried to summon as many times as I could; however, it looks that I have already summoned roughly a hundred times, although I can still summon. I stopped summoning more shields since they might draw in nearby wildlife. I made an attempt to construct a massive fist out of the entire shield before striking a huge overgrown tree. I tried touching the tree to check the quality of it but huge tree suddenly falls down.
"Huh!, That was only a touch though"
I was still curious of how strong my shields were so I tried punching other species until it was already sunset. So I walked back to the witch's house but it seems like she is enjoying herself on the couch watching her favourite show. I sat beside her and watch the television, eating what she was eating.
It seems like it's getting late and I'm getting hungry. I should ask her what she would like for dinner, but it appears that she is already full after consuming a large amount of junk food and carbonated beverages. And she had truly dozed off on her couch. She looks adorable and appears to be having a good time in her dream, so I don't want to wake her up. Then I look to see what ingredients are still in the refrigerator and pantry. It seems that it's enough to make a simple pasta. So I began by boiling the noodles, making the sauce, mixing it all together, and setting the table so I could feel comfortable eating. While I was still getting a glass of water to drink she suddenly woken up.
"It kinda smells nice here, what are you eating?" She asked
"Ohh your finally awake. I didn't disturb your sleep cause it seems like you are enjoying your self there. I have just cooked some pasta, you want some?" I asked her cause she is drooling without her noticing.
"Idiot, give me some of that!"
We started eating and I noticed that she is actually enjoying her food. I enjoyed the food too and I enjoyed when I was looking at her cause she looks like a cat who was really hungry. We finished eating the pasta together even though it was not enough for two people but we still enjoyed it till the last bite. I suddenly want to talk about my progress in my magic.
"Mariane!" I called her name.
I called her name but when she looked at me her face turned red. She kinda reminds of the tomato from when I was cooking the pasta. It seemed like she was still not used to be called by her name.
"May I ask you a question?" I asked
"What!"
I told her about my progress and how small my strong shields and how study it was but I she told me that the the shield was really that small and it can be used as fist. It was said in the book, I just didn't notice cause I was distracted from wanting protection for the both of us. She also stated that the magic is not for beginners.
Then she asked me. "Did you read the book from page one or did you skip the other pages?"
"I skipped cause I want to learn magic for defense" I didn't told her it was for protecting her.
"The book was supposed to teach you step by step from the first page to the last. You really are something, Idiot. By the way where did you get the meat for the pasta?"
"Ohh while I was practicing I tried the shield on horned rabbits for fun"
She was kinda happy that I have finally hunt for food but she warned me cause there is a chance that I might hunt a deceased one.
Then she go to her bed and I slept on the couch. Before I fall asleep I was thinking of how I was happy to make her smile while she enjoyed my food. I'll try to make her more happy in this new life of mine.
