Chereads / DIABLO: LEARNING TO LOVE / Chapter 5 - Hopeless

Chapter 5 - Hopeless

Ella was feeling quite disappointed since Kay told her he was not going to be able to meet up with her after work because something had come up at work and he had to work overtime. If only she knew it was because of a certain president that was trying to keep his future 'wife' from hanging out with other men. She tucked her hands into her jacket as she walked down the street to the hospital since the evening air was moist and chilly because the winter season was approaching. She was going to visit her grandpa who was currently in the ICU being closely monitored by doctors and nurses. He had been diagnosed with lung cancer about a year ago. The illness was life threating and he had had to undergo surgery to have one of his lungs removed and the other cleaned but sadly his condition was not yet stable enough for him to leave. Ella had since had to work harder to cover the very expensive medical fees but it was all worth it. Her grandpa and her younger sister Elsa were the only blood family she had left and she could do anything for them. A smile lit her face as she opened the door to her grandpa's room and found him chatting with Elsa. His skin was looking better and his facial expression looked livelier, he was getting better.

"Grandpa, Elsa. How are you?" she greeted as she moved towards the bed and enveloped both of them in a big hug.

"Am fine, dear. How are you?" the old man replied as he pulled back and smiled at her.

"Am fine." She replied. She then turned to Elsa who greeted her too. Elsa was nineteen and was currently at college. Her sister also had the same midnight black hair and beautiful black eyes like hers.

"Have you eaten?" she asked Elsa as she studied her. She had become thinner considering her constant worry about grandpa and balancing studies at school.

"Not yet, but am going to." She replied.

"You should eat more, or else I will feed you like a baby." Ella jokingly threatened her.

"Okay, I will." Elsa chuckled at her over caring sister.

"You should head home now. I will stay here and take care of grandpa."

"Bye then." Elsa replied as she waved both of them goodbye and left.

Elsa stood at a bus stop that was near the hospital as she waited for a bus back home. The sky had darkened and looked rather dull since the moon and stars were not there.

She glanced to her right and saw a person that was dressed entirely in black with a hood covering their hair, standing about a meter from her. The surroundings were oddly quite as a gentle yet chilly breeze blew by causing her to shiver. She wrapped her shawl tightly around her arms as she inched a few steps towards the stranger that gave off a domineering vibe.

"Hey, are you also waiting for the bus, too?" she asked trying to ignite a conversation to feel a little better considering the weather. The stranger who was looking straight ahead turned slightly and looked at her for a few seconds and looked away completely ignoring her like she did not exist.

'How mean!' Ella thought as she studied the man beside her. He was around six feet tall with a lean muscular physique and dark emerald green eyes that actually looked pretty good from earlier when he had glanced at her. She also saw a golden blond lock of hair peeking from beneath his hood. Even though he was good looking, he was still the meanest person she had ever met. The bus arrived soon and both alighted with Elsa sitting in one of the middle rows and the stranger sitting in the back seat. Elsa shifted slightly in her seated as she could feel his intense gaze on her.

'Why was he looking at her now after completely ignoring her. Humph.' She thought as she decided to ignore him too. The ten minutes' drive from the hospital to her house ended as she got off and started walking up the alley that led to her house. The light by the main road illuminated the narrow path as she walked, torching her way with her phone's flashlight. There was barely a sign of life around as she continued walking until a brown cat run past her and disappeared behind a large trash bin. She shrieked as she hastened her pace. The darkness and eerie silence were starting to creep her out. She felt a rush of adrenaline when she heard a couple of footsteps behind her prompting her to start running. The person that was trailing her also increased their pace and unfortunately caught up with her, grabbing her wrist. Elsa gulped in fear as she was grabbed and harshly thrown to a wall. She looked at the hand that was holding her wrist firmly and then looked at its owner. It belonged to a rusty, shabby and possibly drunk man.

"Let go of me." She hissed through gnashed teeth as she struggled to get free from her attacker but the man brutally pinned her to the wall and brought his dirty hands to her face.

"Hush, dear. You and I are going to have some fun." He replied as he lifted her chin.

"Don't touch me." She spat as she looked at the man in disdain. A tear rolled down her cheek as she struggled to get free but to no avail. Her vision become foggy as her eyes clogged up with tears. She hated being hopeless but was scared to death at the moment as she imagined her impending doom.
