"Believe nothing you hear, and only one half that you see"
- Edgar Allan Poe
I was running.
I was running through endless darkness and endless roads. Something was chasing me, or rather someone. The long gown that I was wearing was not helping. I kept tripping and falling, but I had to pick myself up every single time to not be caught.
To not be caught by him because if he catches me, he will take me.
He will make me his pet for eternity.
I had to kill him, he can't own me forever.
I turned around and stopped running. Pulling my sharp twin blades out that glistened in the dark: I lunged forward.
I couldn't see anything, I didn't dare to open my eyes.
My biological father cut right through my delicate skin. It left a nasty scar that to this day it pierced my heart. It didn't hurt physically, in fact, I couldn't feel anything when I pressed onto the cut. The pain was psychological. He made sure to mentally deprive me of fatherly love, and when I confronted him about it, he would say things that made me sound like a madman.
He didn't love me, he loved owning a daughter like one owns a robot and treats them like a war machine. Some humans were disgusting like that.
I started laughing.
All my pent up emotions were gushing like blood when ones throat is sliced.
There was nothing funny, I didn't know why I was laughing, my feelings overwhelmed me. I couldn't see anything other than my emotions, and before I could think, my body moved by itself. In a blink of an eye my twin blades were sliced through his hearts.
He had two hearts rather than one which made him very hard to kill, hence, I ended up choosing twin blades as my weapon of choice when I graduated from the academy.
The reason why he had two hearts was because he was born with abnormality.
I shook my head from the horrible flashback I had gotten.
There is no point of remencing about a low life that was now dead.
At that time, my biological father was a wanted "dead or alive" criminal. He had committed crimes like child trafficking, drug dealing to minors, high rank killings which was the act of murdering people in power, homicide and many more. Before he had the chance to kill my mother and brother, I killed him. However, he killed our little sister. I couldn't get to her in time, but I avenged her and our family. Now it was me, my mother and my brother.
Everyone was a mess.
My mother was mentally ill. My brother tried his best to be the man of the house but ended up with too much responsibility and stress that he fell ill. He was admitted to the local hospital with utmost care. I didn't have to worry about paying for hospital bills because where I live, hospital was free to everyone.
The kingdom of Asmodemia was graced to be ruled by king Cian. He made hospitals free for anyone that needed it as long as they were an Asmodemian resident. Of course the medicine wasn't free but the money needed for it was barely any and those who could not afford it would volunteer to help the hospital after their recovery or a family member could volunteer in their place.
We were blessed to have king Cian. He is a better ruler than the pesky humans had been.
You may think how is it possible to make hospitals free, wouldn't it make making money for the royalty harder?
It did, but the royalty found other ways to make money for themselves and the kingdom. Trading was one of the most common ways, helping other kingdoms was another way, and of course selling goods that were indigenous and unique to the lands. Food was something that everyone worked for. Every house was provided with their own small greenhouse that they needed to grow vegetable and fruits in. You could even make a few demias from selling vegetables that you'd grow yourself. Each house was provided with a little coop as well with a rooster and a few chickens. However, if you wanted any other type of meat, you had to buy it from butchers. Only those that were butchers had barns.
All in all everyone lived a comfortable life. No one was poor, but no one was rich either. Anyone that was sane wouldn't think of going beyond. But criminals still existed to this day.
Criminals were the worst that were dealt with. If poor existed in any of the kingdoms, it would be the criminals. And the worse the crime the heavier the punishment was. Someone who stole something was dealt with lighter than someone that killed. Unless the criminals proved themselves changed, they would be poor. So there wasn't a forever poor creature anywhere unless you wanted to be a criminal.
The kingdom of Asmodemia was ruled by the unmated king Cian. He still hasn't found his mate. He was a werewolf. He was known for being ruthless, strict and unforgiving everywhere, a man of few words that spoke strongly through his actions. After the Great War which was caused by humans, humankind almost went extinct. There are very few humans left that you could count, my family was the last in the Asmodemia continent until I killed my father, now there are only 3 humans left in Asmodemia. I was a normal human born from normal parents. Nowadays humans were less and were wanted more because of their minority. So being a human had its privileges. For example, if you were a human, the works that other species could do would be harder on you, so the workload was easier to handle. Of course there were many that were envious, but it wasn't thought about that way much, in fact people were nicer and friendlier to make sure to treat you delicately as they possess powers that humans could easily break by. All in all, the majority was really nice and accepting. Now Mother Earth harbored beasts of every kind.
The Mother Earth was endued with three kingdoms, four islands and the big ocean. Kingdom of Asmodemia was ruled by king Cian. It was divided by four states: the southwest state overlapped with the kingdom of Noxania which was ruled by queen Althea. She was a human and did not have a king by her side yet. The kingdom of Noxania has three states, the southeast state overlapped with the kingdom of Asmodemia and the north state overlapped with the kingdom of Oloronia that was ruled by king Adonis. Kingdom of Oloronia was divided by three states, and its northwest state overlapped with kingdom of Noxania. The islands were scattered around. Lorenisia was in south of Oloronia, and its ruler was king Orion. Merlomia was in west of Noxania and the ruler was king Amphion. Ketunia ruled by queen Pyria was in North west of Noxania. And Rougesia the icy island was ruled by queen Islode. Lastly, the ocean of Mother Earth was ruled by both king Aegeus and queen Cordelia. The rulers always have their other half ruling by their side even if the original ruler was always there at first.
To be honest, I loved where I am. Even if all of the other people of the other kingdoms think that our king is ruthless and unforgiving, he still treats his people fairly. And I'm happy for that.
I wouldn't want it any other way.
