Chapter 4 - Tour

Elaine combed her raven-colored, curly hair while gazing in the circular mirror at herself with a neutral expression that persisted on her face.

She was unsure of whether to appear happy or sad around her mother in particular.

She loved her mother with all of her heart. But still wished she could experience the agony she had gone through during her times of loneliness and longing.

"Silly"

She stood up, taking one last look in the mirror, and her thoughts turned into words.

In particular, Elaine was at a loss for what to do today and didn't enjoy the idea of staying home.

When Tessa saw her daughter coming up the stairs, she halted what she was doing in the kitchen. She had surprising raven hair that complemented her pristine white skin, which she inherited from her grandmother.

"Good morning. How was your night?"

Elaine merely said, "Fine."

" I was wondering if you could go out and enjoy yourself and explore the city since I'll be leaving for work. ".

"I'm really new here, in case you forgot,".

Lightly grinning, Tessa.

" I know. Not by yourself, of course. You could get help from a daughter of a close friend of mine; she's a really nice young lady. ".

Elaine just nodded as she watched her mother quickly grab her bags from the dining room table.

"She would be here shortly, and her name is Penelope, enjoy your day"

Elaine intervened to prevent Tessa from leaving.

"What do you do?"

Tessa simply smiled and said, "I work in the office," before shutting the door behind her

Why won't she just give me more specifics about the office?

~~~~.
In contrast to what my mother had predicted, the alleged "friend's daughter" named Penelope arrived two hours later.
"Hello, I'm Penelope, but you can call me Penny," said the blonde-haired girl with the understated appearance and cocky smile that never left her not-so-sweet face. Penelope was taller than Elaine, who appeared serene and lean.
"Elaine. ".
Penny said, "I know Mrs.Campbell already told me about you even before you arrived," reaching her pocket of jeans.
When Penny said it, I wasn't particularly shocked. Perhaps I didn't just decide to live here in Sacramento in a moment.
"Am a terrible tourist".
Penny winked at me and motioned for me to get into the somewhat-old van as she said, "I'm going to take you to where I work, it's more cool and casual there.
"An office?" I didn't really know why I asked, but thinking about her workplace made me remember earlier mother's words.
She winked as she turned the van on to go, saying, "Office..We'll find out." She let out a sigh of relief as she did so.
I asked, peering out the window,
"So, is there going to be a tour or something?".
"I guess.".
