"Zara, what the hell! How did you find me?" David's voice was tight and dark as he leaned down to help me out from under the bed. "We have to get you out of here. Now."
"I know, I'm sorry, but—"
"There's no time." He didn't even look at me, just kept an eye on the room behind us as he hustled me out of the bedroom through the door into the library, straight to the panel where I'd come in from the passage ways, grabbing a candle from a side table as we passed and holding it high.
When I stepped into the dark he was behind me and I turned. He carefully closed the door like he was worried someone would hear, then turned sideways to slide past me, taking my hand and pulling me along the passages.
"David, who was back there?" I hissed.
He shook his head and glanced at me back over his shoulder. "Quiet!"
