Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: How it all started

Let me tell you a story I'm sure you've never heard of yet.

A long time ago, in a simple village called Dormeadow, everything was fine and peaceful.

It was ruled by a king, a queen, their daughter, and her younger twin brothers.

The people of this town were all living in peace, there weren't any problems, and it was all thanks to a friendly drus.

For those who don't know, a drus is a male dryad. They're both known for their ability of chlorokinesis, the power to control, create, and manipulate plant life.

This drus in particular was named Ace.

His appearance includes his light green skin, his light green eyes, a vest made of leaves, and shorts made of darker green leaves. The same went for his hair that was a little lighter than his shorts, but darker than his eyes. He can easily be mistaken for a teenager, but dryads and drus can live up to one thousand years, so he's much older, but looks about seventeen.

He was the one who's responsible for everything Dormeadow has. He gave them trees to supply them with wood, he helped to grow produce to give them food to eat, and everyone knew it was a good day when he did things just out of generosity.

Once, to congratulate the princess' sixteenth birthday, he filled her room with gardenias, her favorites.

She thought of him fondly, but she keeps that to herself. She doesn't want him to find out.

Anyway, for the most part, Ace was nice to have around Dormeadow.

And due to his nature abilities and his kindness, people around the village started giving him the nickname Brother Nature. It caught on quickly.

Ace was the most wonderful drus anyone's ever met.

If only they realized this before the day came.

The day Ace left Dormeadow.

Some time later, people in the village started taking advantage of Ace's kindness.

People would start asking for requests from him, which he did without a problem, feeling thankful hat he could help them.

Those requests in time then became demands, and they did not stop coming.

Ace was starting to get worn out from all of this. He needed a break.

So, it naturally made sense for him to take one.

That only made the people of Dormeadow more persistent and demanding.

They wouldn't stop.

They didn't see that the main person in Dormeadow, who gave them everything they needed to have a good life, and was their main source of everything they needed to live, was tired out.

All they did was keep pestering him for more and more. And when he did, they moved on and kept asking for more without a single word or token of appreciation.

This is what pushed him over the limit. Ace'd had enough.

Then the day came.

Ace had left Dormeadow. He just went in one direction and didn't stop going when he walked outside of the village.

When Ace left, no one saw much of it.

They didn't see it that way during the following week.

A depletion in supplies was going on throughout the village.

Food was running low, the plants everywhere started to become scarce, no one could live the way they used to.

Dormeadow started to become Dullmeadow in just short time.

That was when they realized that without Ace, they'd be living in poverty and the village wouldn't be able to last much longer.

The princess was the one who was the most upset about this. This happened on her watch, and she didn't know about it.

When the village got into even more poverty, out of desperation, people were sent out to find a miracle.

Five days passed, and nothing was found.

On the sixth however, someone found something that you'd have to see to believe.

Southwest of the village, about fifteen kilometers away and past some high hills, there was the largest forest that anyone had ever seen.

Everyone had thought Dormeadow was saved.

However, when someone got a close inspection, the trees surrounding the forest were preventing everyone from entering. They were grown too close and wide for anyone to go through, and they were too tall to go over.

They've tried cutting down the trees to get through, but the trees were too dense and as tough as steel for their tools. They couldn't pry the trees apart to make a way in either, nor could they dig and get past all the trees' roots.

They lost all hope and made their way back to Dormeadow to prepare for the end.

That brings us to now.

While everyone was waiting for the worst, in the center of the forest, we see a tree basking in the sunlight.

The trunk of the tree opened up and out came a drus.

The very drus who left Dormeadow almost four weeks ago: Ace.

When Ace left, he didn't stop walking until he was far away enough. He grew himself the forest to live in and settled into his new living space. He never thought about Dormeadow except for one time: when they thought they might take apart his new home for their selfish selves. He grew those trees to protect he forest. No on could get in or out without his permission.

Ace had isolated himself from anyone and everyone. He didn't want to see anyone from that village ever again for as long as he lived.

If he knew they were suffering for their actions, he'd only say that it was their own fault.

He helped them out when they needed it, but hardly got anything in return but more demands for more. They were so...ungrateful.

The more Ace thought about it, the madder he got. And when he got mad, it would cause him to grow thorns on his body.

When he realized this, he closed his eyes, took a deep breath in, than let it out.

When he opened them, he thought out loud, "That's all in the past, Ace. It's all in the past."

As some wind picked up in Ace's forest, Brother Nature rose his left arm, making a flowering tree grow.

When he saw the petals blow off in the wind, it calmed him down even more. Making him smile.
