Chapter 36 - Bracket tournament (2)

Blue_Snake was a tall, slim man with long blue hair. His weapon was a rapier, and he was dressed like a musketeer.

He wore a white shirt with a blue vest over it and a black leather hat that had a blue feather sticking out of it. If he had a beard he would look like a real musketeer.

"I have looked at your battle royale match, and I must say you are quite strong, but I am still better."

Blue_Snake haughtily looked at Leo, who just chuckled and scratched the back of his head with a smile.

"Thanks! I spent that one hour sleeping. The chair was really comfy, so I just kinda fell asleep! HAHAHA!"

"…"

Blue_Snake should have been happy that Leo didn't use that hour to research his abilities, but he was more angry than happy.

"Are you saying that you don't even find me worthy enough to be prepared for?!"

He shouted at Leo with a voice filled with anger, but Leo just tilted his head in confusion.

"Huh? No? As I said before, I fell asleep and forgot about-"

"Whatever! Prepare yourself! I will show you why you shouldn't have underestimated me!"

Leo was clueless as to why his opponent was suddenly angry, but if it meant that they would fight sooner, he would gladly accept.

"Both players, please get ready!"

Blue_Snake stepped with his right foot forward and his left hand behind his back.

He was holding his rapier with his right hand while glaring at Leo, who put his hands forward, making him look like a bear that was preparing to run at his prey.

"Begin!"

With Dina's signal, both of them rushed at each other.

Blue_Snake's plan was to tire Leo out by dodging his attacks, and once he saw that Leo was tired, he would attack him by stabbing his weak spots, like the head, throat, or heart.

Once they got closer to each other, Leo threw some quick jabs at Blue_Snake, but they were all dodged, so he tried using his legs to kick him, but he couldn't land a hit.

Blue_Snake put all his points into agility, so there was no way Leo, who focused on strength, would match his speed.

Kick, jab, hook... no matter how Leo attacked, he was not able to hit Blue_Snake.

The way Blue_Snake kept moving his body around made it look like he had no bones inside, and he might have actually been a human snake.

Normally the players would get discouraged and start to make mistakes because their attacks weren't connecting, but not Leo.

"FightMe is trying his best to land a hit, but no matter what he does, he can't do it!"

Dina commented, but Leo just smiled widely while laughing.

"HAHAHA! This is fun! Dodge more, run more! It's gonna be the best feeling once I finally hit you!"

"Pathetic. You can never match my speed."

Blue_Snake kept dodging, but it had already been five minutes, and Leo didn't look like he was getting tired.

On the contrary, it was Blue_Snake who was starting to breathe a little heavier, and sweat was starting to build up on his forehead.

Leo noticed this and decided to try a new move that he had been learning.

He ran towards Blue_Snake with his hands forward, and everyone, including Blue_Snake, thought that he was going to tackle him.

Blue_Snake wanted to take a step back at the last moment, but once Leo reached him, instead of tackling him, he stomped his right foot, stopping his charge, and hit Blue_Snakes chin with an uppercut.

As Blue_Snake planned to step back, he glanced behind him so he wouldn't trip over an obstacle, but because of that, he didn't see the incoming fist.

BANG CRACK

Leo's fist connected.

Blue_Snake, who wasn't prepared for it, didn't clench his teeth, and he felt his lower jaw fracture, but not before he bit half of his tongue off.

He flew through the air like a kite that had its string cut off and crashed back first into the ground.

THUD

Not only was his breath knocked out of his lungs, but as he tried to breathe in, he accidentally inhaled the piece of tongue that he had previously bitten off.

"KEURGHH! *COUGH*!"

This made him flail around like a turtle that was flipped on its shell as he tried to breathe.

"Good match."

STOMP CRACK

Leo said with a smile as he stomped his foot on Blue_Snake's head, cracking it like a watermelon.

"And the victory goes to FightMe!"

Dina cheerfully anounced with a loud, high-pitched voice.

"WOOOO!"

"So strong!"

"OUCH! That looked like it hurt!"

The audience cheered even louder than when OneSwordMan won, but Leo was already in his own world, thinking about how he could have defeated Blue_Snake faster.

He was then teleported inside the waiting room, where he looked around and went towards Finn.

"Good job."

Finn congratulated him with a smile.

He was not only happy that Leo had won, but also because he was now 20 gold coins richer.

"Thanks! But it was easy. I hope I get to fight someone stronger in the next match!"

"Tsk..."

The players around Finn and Leo all clicked their tongues and looked away.

They saw that Leo was struggling, but as soon as they blinked, he was already standing on top of a disappearing headless corpse.

'I hope he isn't my opponent in the next round.'

'Please don't make me fight him.'

'Anyone but this monster, please!'

All of the players around Leo were praying not to end up fighting him in their next match because they saw how skilled he was, and even though he was supposed to be weak against an agility type opponent because of his monstrous strength, he had easily overpowered Blue_Snake.

---

The next 29 matches quickly went by.

There were some differences because Finn and Leo were now in the tournament, so most players were matched against someone else than in Finn's previous life, but Finn always bet on the person who would become stronger in the future.

He didn't win every bet, but with his smart betting, where he bet everything on a person he was sure would win and only some coins on a person where it wasn't absolute, he quickly became richer and richer.

'800 gold coins! Compared to the other players in this game, I'm rich! HAHAHA!'

'This is how money changes a person. Now the old Finn will never come back…'

Loki shook his head with a sad smile.

'Let me enjoy my moment. I am happy that I have money, but knowing the things I will have to buy in the future, this is still chump change…'

Leo was looking at Finn, who had been laughing to himself just a second ago, but now he was looking at the ground with a sad look like his pet had just died.

"You alright, dude? Your match is the next one up since you and your opponent are the only players that haven't fought yet."

"Yeah, I'm okay… That's right, I have a match now! It's a shame I can't bet on myself… If I could, I would get even more money…"

Finn kept mumbling to himself, so Leo just left him alone and focused on the holographic monitor, where a female player had just won and was basking in the cheers.

After a few more seconds, she was transported back into the waiting room.

"And now for our last match of the day!"

Two players suddenly appeared in the arena.

One was Finn, and the other was IronWall, who was carrying his huge shield that was great for both defense and offense.

"IronWall versus Chained Trickster! Give them a round of applause, everyone!"

But instead of clapping, the only thing Dina heard were boos.

"BOOOO!"

"Kill him, IronWall!"

"I hope that Trickster guy loses!"

"Avenge our queen, IronWall!"

Finn didn't react and remained motionless like a statue.

IronWall couldn't see Finn's face because of the black mask, but listening to the audience, he chuckled to himself.

"It seems that you are pretty hated. In my opinion, you have won using a clever trick, and I think you should be respected for that, but instead you receive scorn. It's funny how these people would be cheering for you if the last person remaining was an ugly male instead of a beautiful female."

He then looked at the audience, which was still cursing Finn, and shouted at them.

"Shut the fuck up! You are all so pathetic! If you were in his position and had the ability to do so, you would have done the same, you fucking hypocrites!"

The audience suddenly quieted down for a bit but soon began shouting again, and this time they were even louder.

"Who do you think you are, you bastard!"

"Now I hope they both get disqualified!"

"I would have never done that to my queen! I would have let her win!"

"BOOOO!"

IronWall shook his head and shrugged his shoulders as he looked back at Finn.

"Well, I tried."

"Thank you, but it's alright. I understand why they are angry, but there isn't anything I can do to fix it, so I just plan on doing my best and hopefully they will change their opinion of me."

Finn's voice sounded a little different from behind the mask, but IronWall could still hear the calmness in his voice.

"Both players, please get ready!"

Dina shouted even louder than she normally would, trying to let her voice be heard among the boos.

"Begin!"

IronWall quickly grabbed his shield that protected his entire body and positioned himself behind it.

Finn rushed to him while pulling out his sword. He didn't have to worry about other people recognizing it because it looked like an ordinary sword if moonlight wasn't shining on it.

CLANK CLANK CLANK

He slashed at IronWall's shield.

The first strikes were pretty slow, but the more he slashed, the faster he became.

A fury of slashes kept bouncing off of the shield, which had an ability on it that made it possible to withstand most physical attacks.

Finn kept slashing faster and faster, and soon the people who were shouting curses quieted down because they started to be amazed by his speed.

The slashes started to be so fast that some players weren't even able to follow them with their eyes.

'Faster! Faster! A little faster! Just a little faster!'

CLANG CLANG CLANG

Finn kept slashing, but IronWall was confused because he didn't know what Finn was trying to accomplish.

'Does he want to make my shield lose durability? Unfortunately for him, this shield has so much durability that he can forget about destroying it in the 10 minutes we have. Hell, I can block his attacks for another week.'

IronWall thought about Finn's objective from behind the shield.

He always moved the shield and his body to ensure that Finn could never get through, but because of the constant attacks, he wasn't able to attack, so he decided to wait for Finn to get tired.

'Now!'

Finn suddenly stabbed the shield with his Vital hit skill, which boosted his attack by an additional 173%.

Everyone thought that it was just another stab that would get blocked, but the stab pierced through the shield and stabbed IronWall's chest where his lungs were.

SHING SPLURT

IronWall, who was starting to get bored just a second ago, was now coughing blood.

He first looked down at his pierced chest and then at Finn with his eyes wide open and his mouth ajar.

"H- How?"

Finn pulled out his sword and let IronWall fall to his knees, with IronWall's huge shield hitting the ground beside him.

He then walked up to him, and a tired voice sounded from behind his black mask.

"Thank you... for the match."
