Chapter 1 - Fort Sunter (I)

Friedrich sat upon the back of his valiant steed, the wind smashing against his armour like rocks as he looked down through the valley towards an old decrepit fort. Oh, how small it seemed... At a first glance one would forget they were looking upon the most powerful fort along the Imperial border.

He recalled it's name, Fort Sunter.

It seemed to be but a quiet posting to the average soldier... So far away from the strife's that plagued the Imperial heartlands. Only the occasional smuggler to provide a bit of entertainment to the garrison. But, soon, their quiet and peaceful posting would become the frontlines of a great war.

He seemed to chuckle at this thought.

"Lord Friedrich!"

A voice emerged from his side, struggling to overcome the booming sound of the winds that continued their endless barrage against face of the cliff. Friedrich adjusted his head slightly, looking around to the source of the voice... It was Commander Kraus. For a officer, he was oddly soft spoken. Yet, his achievements on the battlefield were second to none, Friedrich was proud to have a man such as Kraus within his service.

"Are we ready to commence our attack, Commander?"

Friedrich would shout over the winds, his voice coming across rather clear. He always was a powerful speaker and it earned quite the reputation during speeches... Yet, speeches would not win battles. Soon he would begin his trial by fire; That would show his soldiers whether he was a man worthy of their respect.

"Yes, Lord!"

Friedrich seemed to smirk.

"Then we best not keep the men waiting! Commander, commence your attack!"

The Commander would give a brief bow of his head.

"By your orders."

As the Commander made his exit Friedrich would turn his head towards the fort, taking a deep breath. Strange, the air that once tasted so bitter seemed but a little sweeter now...
