The enemy of my enemy is my friend only lasts for so long… right up until they manage to kill their enemy. Then… what were they supposed to do next?
The enemy's death leaves a gaping hole in your chest… one that, if you weren't prepared for it, would turn you inside out. There was a reason why an old proverb said: "When you begin a journey of revenge, start by digging two graves."
I thought my biggest enemy was Vlad, but when he died, I was so busy focusing on my mates and my life that I never really put much thought into his passing. But Odin and Gabriel? Apparently, I took up so much space inside their little brains that without me, all they could do was turn on each other.
"We had a deal!" growled Odin as Gabriel burst out laughing. My eyes were still closed as my threads continued to sew me back together. Now that they thought I was killed, I had time to put the next part of my plan in place.
Stephanie let out a low moan, her wound healing all on its own, but luckily for her, Odin and Gabriel were much too loud to hear her.
"We did," agreed Gabriel when he stopped laughing. "And now we don't. It really is that simple. Or are you so dumb that you can't see your part in the new world?"
"My part," sneered Odin, his footsteps leading away from my body and toward where Gabriel was standing. I had no idea what was happening with the Knights on the right side of the church. Hopefully, they hid when the bullets started flying, but if they didn't…
Well, I had my hands full enough when it came to taking care of my own.
"My part is to be King of the Monsters, to combine the Houses under one banner and rule the world as the strongest," continued Odin, so far lost in his fantasies that he truly believed what he was saying.
Gabriel continued to chuckle as more and more footsteps continued to pound into the church.
Okay, I needed to come up with a check-list on what I needed to do next. The first thing was to kill everyone in this room who did not belong to me. The Knights were on the fence since they technically belonged to one of mine, but the rest could go.
After that, I needed to make sure that Mike was well on his way to sewing his head back on and that Stephanie and my mates were good to go. At least everyone but Mathew had experienced being killed before, so it shouldn't be so traumatic this time around.
Fingers crossed.
After that, I needed to find my three mates who had been switched out for Skinwalkers. I had a pretty good idea where they were being kept, but I really didn't think that House Skinwalker was strong enough to keep my men down.
Fourth was to go on a really long Honeymoon, potentially by myself, to a place where I could stay in bed all day long and not need to worry about anything. I heard the Maldives were perfect this time of year.
Opening my eyes, I saw Stephanie's panicked expression right in front of me as her own threads sewed her heart back together. Raising a finger to my lips to keep her silent, I winked at her.
Cracking my neck from side to side, I moaned in relief as my back and spine cracked back into place. Gone were all my injuries, but there was no way I was rescuing this dress. "Don't mind me," I called out, rising to my feet as I grinned at Odin and Gabriel. "You guys keep going. I'll just wait here until you are done."
"You!" hissed Odin, spinning around as he looked at me in shock. "How are you still alive?!? I saw you die!"
Shrugging my shoulders, I sat down on one of the steps leading to the Sanctuary of the church and the altar. "It happens a lot. You get used to it after a while."
Three bodies hit the floor as my mates ripped the heads off the Skinwalkers pretending to be Viktor, Nicholas, and Michael. "They, on the other hand, probably won't be coming back from that."
Greyson, Sasah, Levi, Dementyev, and Mathew straightened their tuxes as they all walked over to where I was sitting. Taking up random guard positions around me, I could feel them focusing on the enemy in front. Resting my chin on the palms of both hands, I watched the drama unfolding with a certain detachment.
"You cannot be alive," sneered Gabriel, holding up his gun. Taking aim, he shot me in the middle of the forehead without warning. My threads dove in and pushed the bullet out of my head and stitched me back together so fast that I was healed before anyone really registered the shot.
"I assure you, I can," I smiled at him. "But you might want to say goodbye to your legion." Gabriel spun around, his eyes going wide as body after body dropped to the ground, their threads of life cut.
Gabriel's wings burst from his back as he watched me killing his army without raising a single hand.
"You know," I sighed, closing my eyes as I heard people scrambling over the pews, trying to escape the church before they met the same fate. "I didn't want it to be like this."
"Sure you didn't," sneered Gabriel. A sword made of pure flames appeared in his hand as he faced me in what I was sure would be an epic battle. "You are an abomination. Everything that you do has done nothing but cause the world to fall deeper and deeper into sin."
My eyes widened as Gabriel continued to go off on how all humans are evil, how humans have taken the angel's world from them, and how everyone needed to die in order to restore Eden to its former glory.
"Are you going to shut up any time soon?" I asked with a sigh. "I really want to go home and eat an entire tub of ice cream right about now."
"You should have never existed," snarled Gabriel as he cut Odin's head off. I blinked a few times, not expecting that part. However, as soon as the blade took Odin's head, it turned a dark red color, and it grew another foot in length as if Odin's death was feeding it more power.
"See," sneered Gabriel as he took a step toward me. "I am invincible, the more I kill, the stronger I become. There is no way you are walking out of this church alive."
