Chapter 10 - I Want Gelato

Macau and Chay walked out of the hotel drawing attention as they went. It was however the seven grown men in black and the small woman who was trailing behind them that made everyone stare. They had just stepped out when Chay got a text from Porche reminding him to be back in time for dinner at seven with the Kurosawa family. That was the last thing Chay wanted to do but he apparently had to be there to keep up appearances.

Macau talked the man heading Chay's detail into letting them have their own car without bodyguards. Nobody was all for the idea but in the end, the boy got his way and both he and Porchay were silently trailing the streets of Tokyo listening to the radio despite only one of them understanding Japanese. They ended up at a shopping mall where Macau ended up being dragged all over the place and the bodyguards, bless their souls, were forced to bare the burden of all of Chay and Macau's sudden purchases while trying to keep up with the boys. It was against his better judgement to run from the guards, Chay knew that but he wanted time alone with Macau so he tried to shake them off but failed dismally each time.

When the boys decided to finally settle they had gone around the entire mall at least twice and ended up buying the most irrational, unnecessary things simply because they could. All the shopping bags they had accumulated throughout the day were out of sight and while their guards tried to act invisible, they were difficult to ignore especially because someone had snitched to Pete and Porsche and the boys ended up with more people on their detail. They were sitting on a bench watching the late afternoon foot traffic on the streets. Chay sighed in defeat. All his attempts at getting Macau alone without a pair or two of unwanted ears had failed and he had made peace with the fact that he might not be able to talk to Macau until god knows when.

Macau looked at the boy sitting next to him blinking a few times at him before getting up to talk to one of the people Pete had watching him. He spent a few minutes talking to him and even ended up making a phone call before going back to Chay. He stood looking down at the pouting boy, "Come, I was gelato," he said holding out his hand.

Chay blinked at him a few times before placing his hand and Macau's. The boys drove a few blocks down from the mall before arriving at a gelato bar. What really struck Chay was that they only had four guards with them, all of whom were Macau's detail, "Where did my babysitters go?" Chay asked as they walked into the restaurant.

"They're headed back to the hotel." Macau said nonchalantly sliding his hands into his pockets, "What flavour you getting?"

He and Chay settled at a table in the back with their frozen treats. Macau had settled for Mango and mixed berries while Chay had some freakishly blue treat in his cup. Macau smiled fondly as he trailed back to the memory from the first time they 'hung out' at the pizza parlour. He looked up to find Chay staring at him while chewing on his bottom lip, "Easy there," Macau said reaching over to release Chay's lip from his teeth, "You'll hurt yourself."

Chay scowled at him but stopped chewing on his lip. He was scowling mostly to stop himself from going beet red or outward screaming like he was in his head, "So..." Macau took a spoonful of his treat, "What did you want to talk about?"

Chay spluttered at the question before looking away for a moment and accidentally making eye contact with an older man with the coldest eyes he had ever seen. He shot his gaze back to Macau's less terrifying, friendlier eyes, "W-what makes you think I wanted to talk about anything specific," he replied trying to suppress a shudder.

"Call it a lucky guess?" Macau cocked an eyebrow at the squirming boy in front of him, "You okay?"

"Yeah, I'm fine. I just got a very icky feeling for a second," Chay shook his head before settling on staring at Macau to ignore the chill lingering in his bones, "It's just..."

"Is it about what my stupid cousin pulled this morning?"

Porchay looked down at his hands as he began to scratch at the skin on his thumbs, "No," Macau held his hands out stopping Chay when his thumbs began to turn pink, "Don't do that."

Chay pulled his hands back and dropped them back into his lap before looking at Macau. His gaze unfaltering and completely unblinking. For a moment he had completely forgotten to breathe as he looked at the boy sitting across from him clad in black and a green varsity jacket. He closed his eyes and drew a breath, "I like you," he said startling himself.

He knew he liked Macau. That much he was sure of. He also knew that he didn't want to lose his new best friend should Macau really not feel the same. He was also scared half to death of going through what he had to deal with after Kim but it didn't matter much. It was Macau. He knew Macau wouldn't hurt him and he hoped Macau liked him back.

Chay's words shook Macau so much so that he was staring open-mouthed at Chay who was now blinking at him, doe eyes and all. Trust Porchay to be completely unpredictable and steal your thunder, he thought to himself internally rolling his eyes. He had been quiet a moment too long because Chay whispered almost irritated but he was simply just nervous to hear what Macau would say, "This is the part where you say something."

"Huh?"

"What?"

"No, nothing. It's just...I..."

Chay sighed and slumped into his seat, "Of course you don't like me back."

"No that's no..." Macau blinked a few times trying to calm his racing thoughts, "I like you."

He looked a Porchay who just blinked at him not giving much away about what was going on behind those big doe eyes, "I've liked you for a while. I just didn't know how to say it," Macau added deflating in his seat.

Chay balled up a paper towel from the stack on the table and threw it across the table at Macau's head, "You're an idiot."

Macau was about to speak when Chay shot out of his seat and leaned across the table pulling Macau by the collar of his jacket. The boy planted a soft kiss on Macau's lips lingering for a moment only pulling away when I flash from a few tables down caught his attention. The boys looked over to see one of the bodyguards smirking at them no doubt having sent the picture to Pete.

Chay sat back down and cleared his throat before turning his attention back to the half-melted dessert on the table. Macau just sat blinking at the boy in front of him who was peacefully eating his gelato like nothing happened. The last thing Macau had expected Chay to do was kiss him in a public place. He never expected Chay to kiss him at all but he did and now Macau was trying to calm his thundering heartbeat lest Chay or anyone else heard it.
