Chapter 39 - Blackhawk faction

Wilder tilted his head slightly.

"There's no need to pretend; we understand that you had no choice," the head instructor said.

The head instructor told Wilder that he knew that Wilder had used a technique given to him by Liam's mother to breakthrough to the enhanced human stage.

Of course this was true, but the way the head instructor spoke, it seemed like this was a bad thing.

"umm" Wilder didn't know what to say; he had no idea if taking the technique from Liam's mother was wrong in the eyes of the head instructor, but he didn't see it as wrong, and if he was expecting Wilder to be regretful, then he was barking up the wrong tree.

Seeing Wilder's nonadmitance, the head instructor went on

"We understand that the incentives of the Torkai faction are very attractive, but we can also match them. I have talked to my higher-ups in the Blackhawk faction, and we can make you a 3 star-level member when you graduate," the head instructor explained to Wilder in a bid to draw him into his faction.

"Oh?" After listening to the explanation, Wilder started to understand the situation.

Wilder had heard of the factions in the human world. To get anywhere in the world of the military, one needed to join one of these factions, and it seemed like Liam's mother was a member of a faction called the Torkai faction, and the technique she had graciously given him was in fact a trap to draw him into the faction without him knowing. The head instructor must have found out and contacted his bosses for permission to do the same.

"There are a whole lot of benefits from joining the army directly instead of doing mere mercenary contract work," the head instructor continued.

There were three types of major powers in the Demon Whale city: the armies, who were the truly powerful forces; the bounty hunters associations; and then there were the mercenary companies, the richest of all of them.

They took government contracts and got paid huge sums of money, and although a lot of people would disagree on whether the armies had less money than the mercenary companies, they couldn't argue on who was the biggest on pay.

The mercenary companies completely dwarfed the payments of the armies.

Liam's father was a big name in the mercenary world.

"So that's whats going on..." Wilder put his hand on his chin in a thinking position.

"but 3star? Isn't that a little low-ranked?" Wilder said as he tilted his head in a questioning manner.

Hearing this, a look of panic appeared on the head instructor's face.

Low ranked? A lot of people would roll over and die for that rank in the faction, and he was saying that it was too low?

"ignorance!!" The head instructor felt like bellowing in his head.

3 stars was enough for anyone; he himself was just a 5 star member, and Wilder wanted something higher than 3 stars. Was Wilder trying to close the gap between their statuses?

He felt like scolding Wilder.

"Look..." but before he could utter the words

"Fine, 4 stars, but we have a condition." Beside Wilder, the other man that had come into the room with the head instructor spoke out.

Causing Wilder to look over with some glee, in truth he didn't know the actual benefits of the 3 stars, and he couldn't just tell them; after all, they were operating on the premises that Wilder knew what the Torkai group was willing to offer, which in turn meant he had a general idea what they were also willing to offer.

But Wilder didn't, and that didn't stop him from looking for better benefits or at least trying to get better benefits.

"what condition?" Wilder asked. He was happy that they gave in, and although he didn't know what the exact benefits were, by the look on the head instructor's face, he could tell that they were great, so he didn't want to push it further.

Still, he couldn't agree to something like a condition he didn't know about.

"One is a condition, the other is more like a favor; don't worry, it will benefit you too." The man spoke; he looked much younger than the head instructor; in fact, he didn't even look middle-aged; he looked quite young.

For someone so young to have the same standing as the head instructor, it meant that he was very talented.

"The first is about the 4-star position; it will only be confirmed when you get to the spirit human stage." After saying that, he paused for a while.

There were several reasons for this. Even though Wilder showed crazy talent during the 3rd year graduation party, the head instructor didn't confirm that he got the black core he spoke about, and it wasn't like they could check since the process was over.

The other reason was because they didn't have clearance from the higher-ups, so all he could do was promise for now.

Hearing this, Wilder nodded. It didn't seem too bad.

"And as for the favor, you will have to practice a technique we have in our arsenal called pinpoint; it's very similar to the one Lillian gave you to practice." The man explained to Wilder that, by right, after using the technique of the Torkai faction to breakthrough, Liam's mother Lilian could take him away without their input.

And the only way to avoid this was for Wilder to pretend like the skill he used was pinpoint, which was very similar.

"I see" Wilder nodded, they were trying to Swindle Liam's mother and Wilder was down for it, and for no other reason than that the lady was crazy

When he was just training under her, she made him go through hell. Now, if he were to join her faction, it'd be like submitting himself to becoming a genie pig for her crazy experiments.

"Okay, I agree." Wilder nodded to them after deliberating for a while.

"Good," the head instructor affirmed with some glee on his face.

There were so many factions that were inviting Wilder to join them, but he decided to stay with the Warhawk Academy's faction, which showed that he was very loyal and appreciative.

though he didn't know that Wilder was actually agreeing so he could get closer to them and finally get the elusive Arthur.

He had narrowed his search down to the Warhawk Academy.
