Chapter 2 - Upgrading the Shelter

As Mike descended the ladder, he counted to fifteen in his heart before the surroundings suddenly became clear. The ground and roof, made of wooden planks, formed a stable foundation to ensure that the shelter didn't collapse in the ground. Mike waited until the blue light of the scanning system had finished scanning the area before a prompt sounded in his head.

[Doomsday Survival System bind successfully]

[First binding reward: 100 survival points]

[Scan the host's survival environment, and the survival point is being evaluated, and today I get 5 survival points. ]

[Final settlement, you got a total of survival

points today: 105 points!]

[Remaining survival points: 105 points! ]

Mike couldn't help but think, "It seems like everyone can get points." He realized that the survival game panel was a game panel, and everyone had it and could use it. The doomsday survival system acted as a modifier. According to the apocalyptic survival system, every day of survival, a person could earn a certain amount of survival points. These points were similar to points in the game and could not be exchanged for items directly. Their function was similar to the item upgrade function in the game, but the scope of upgrades was more comprehensive.

Mike resisted the excitement in his heart and fixed his eyes on the rudimentary underground survival base. The game panel displayed:

[Personal Refuge]

Owner: Mike

Space: 100 square meters (the height of the floor is 4.2m)

Completeness: 100%

Facilities: None

Introduction: An extremely simple refuge, without any survival facilities, at best, it could be regarded as a small tomb in the apocalypse.

Mike looked at the wooden door, the only item in the refuge.

[Gate of Refuge]

Effect: Slightly anti-theft, slightly anti-radiation

Upgrade direction 1: Increase the thickness of the wooden door, increase the firmness of the wood, and slightly fire and waterproof (10)

Upgrade direction 2: Change the material, upgrade the wooden door to an iron door, greatly increase durability and other attributes (30)

Evaluation: You don't want to live in the end times by a wooden door, do you?

After observing for a while, Mike reluctantly sorted out the use of the doomsday survival system. In addition to relying solely on survival points to upgrade the system, users could also provide materials, which greatly reduced the survival points required for the upgrade program. For example, if Mike wanted to upgrade his wooden door to an iron door, he could provide 3 units of iron and 1 unit of wood, and the survival point required for the upgrade would drop to 5.

The survival point could be used as any substance, but it was not as efficient as the original substance in terms of conversion. So as long as enough similar substances were provided, and the survival point played a role of transformation and assimilation, consumption could be greatly reduced.

After understanding these circumstances, the pressure of survival that had been pressing on Mike's heart finally became much smaller. "I want to create a strong enough refuge before my parents and sister launch," he thought. "Before this, I need to solve the material problem first." He clenched his fist secretly. Now that he had infinite points, he could start upgrading his shelter.

Mike reviewed the upgrade options provided by the doomsday survival system:

[Personal Refuge]

Owner: Mike

Space: 50m (the height of the floor is 4.2m)

Completeness: 100%

Facilities: None

Introduction: An extremely simple refuge, without any survival facilities, at best, it could be regarded as a small tomb in the apocalypse.

Upgrade direction:

• Reinforced Wooden Shelter (100 points): This upgrade involves reinforcing the wooden structure with additional support beams and reinforcing the dirt walls with wooden planks. The roof is also reinforced with more wooden beams and covered with a layer of waterproofing material to prevent leaks during rainy seasons. This upgrade provides better protection from the elements and moderate security.

• Deluxe Wooden Shelter (200 points): The Deluxe Wooden Shelter is an upgrade from the Reinforced Wooden Shelter. This upgrade includes adding windows and a door made of reinforced wood, as well as installing a wooden floor. The shelter is also equipped with a basic ventilation system to improve air quality. This upgrade provides better security and more comfortable living conditions.

• Wooden Bunker (400 points): The Wooden Bunker is the most significant upgrade from the previous two upgrades. This upgrade involves reinforcing the wooden structure with additional layers of wood, and installing a sturdy wooden door with a locking mechanism. The bunker is also equipped with a basic electrical system that includes lighting and power outlets. The wooden floor is covered with a layer of concrete to provide better insulation and protection from moisture. This upgrade provides excellent security and a comfortable living space for extended periods.

He had selected the third upgrade direction, the Wooden Bunker, which promised the best protection and living conditions.

As he stood there, lost in thought, a magical scene unfolded before his eyes. His shelter began to glow with a bright, white light, and the wood started to look more durable and strong. He could hear strange noises, as if something was moving and shifting inside the shelter.

He stood there, transfixed, as the light and sounds grew stronger. It was as if the shelter was alive, undergoing a transformation. After a few minutes, the glowing subsided, and the noises faded away. Mike blinked, looking at his shelter in wonder. It was as if he was seeing it for the first time.

The system notification beeped, startling him. He looked at the screen, which displayed a message: "Upgrade Complete: Wooden Bunker."

[Personal Refuge]

Wooden Bunker:

Owner: Mike

Space: 100m (with two floors, each floor being 4.2m high)

Completeness: 100%

Facilities:

Sturdy wooden door with a locking mechanism

Basic electrical system including lighting and power outlets

A comfortable living space for extended periods

Introduction: The Wooden Bunker is a significant upgrade from the previous shelter. Reinforced with additional layers of wood and equipped with a sturdy wooden door and basic electrical system, this bunker provides excellent security and a comfortable living space for extended periods.

Evaluation: "The Wooden Bunker is an impressive feat of post-apocalyptic engineering. It provides both security and comfort, making it a great place to call home in these uncertain times."

Durability: 1000/1000

He couldn't believe it. His shelter had been upgraded in a matter of minutes, with no work or effort on his part. He wondered if this was some kind of magic or if his talent was really that powerful.

"My talent is really scary," he murmured, still in disbelief. "Others could spend so much time and resources, and here I am doing it in seconds without any work."

As he stepped inside his new bunker, he felt a sense of security and comfort wash over him. The wooden walls and concrete floor were solid and sturdy, and the electrical system provided lighting and power. He sat down on the wooden bench, taking in the new surroundings.

"Wow," he said softly, "this is amazing."

The system beeped again, displaying a message: "Congratulations on your new upgrade. Enjoy your improved living conditions."

Mike smiled, feeling grateful for his talent and the magical upgrade that had transformed his refuge into a cozy and secure home.
