A few months ago:
Ren was grateful for Mei's kindness. She had a warm and inviting presence that made him feel at ease. Over time, they became close friends and Ren felt like he could confide in her about anything.
However, despite Mei's kindness, Ren's life continued to spiral downwards. His sister's condition deteriorated, and the medical bills piled up. Ren had to take on multiple part-time jobs to make ends meet, which meant he had to sacrifice his studies and his passion for writing.
As time went by, Ren's financial situation worsened, and he was forced to move out of his penthouse and into a small apartment in a rundown part of town. He felt alone and isolated, and the weight of his situation was crushing.
.
.
One day, Ren received a call from the hospital. His sister's condition had taken a turn for the worse, and the doctors didn't think she would make it. Ren rushed to the hospital, his heart pounding in his chest. He held his sister's hand and watched as her breathing became shallower and shallower until she finally took her last breath.
Ren was devastated. He had lost the only family he had left, and he felt like he had nothing left to live for. He became a recluse, rarely leaving his apartment and ignoring all calls and messages from Mei and his few remaining friends.
Months passed, and Ren's grief didn't fade. He had lost his passion for writing, and he felt like there was nothing left for him in the world. One night, he found himself standing on the edge of his apartment building's roof, staring down at the concrete below.
As he stood there, he thought about everything he had lost and everything he had gone through. He thought about his parents and his sister, and he wondered if they were waiting for him on the other side. Tears streamed down his face as he prepared to take the final step.
.
.
Just as he was about to jump, Mei appeared behind him. She had been searching for him for months, worried about his well-being. She pleaded with him not to jump, telling him that there was still hope and that he could find a way to live on.
Ren hesitated, and for a moment, he considered her words. But the weight of his grief was too heavy, and he felt like there was nothing left for him in the world. He took a step forward, and Mei lunged forward, grabbing onto his arm and pulling him back.
For a moment, they stood there, panting and gasping for breath. Ren looked at Mei, and for the first time in months, he felt a glimmer of hope. Mei held onto him tightly, and he realized that he wasn't alone anymore. He had someone who cared about him, someone who would be there for him no matter what.
Together, they walked down from the rooftop, and Ren realized that there was still hope for him in the world. He might have lost everything he had, but he still had Mei and the possibility of a future.
.
.
Ren sat on the couch in Mei's living room, staring blankly at the TV. It had been several weeks since Mei had saved him from jumping off the rooftop, but he still felt numb and lost. Mei had been a constant presence in his life since then, checking in on him every day and making sure he was taking care of himself. Ren was grateful for her, but he still felt like he was drowning in grief.
Mei sat down next to him, placing a hand on his shoulder.
Mei: "Ren, are you okay?" she asked softly.
Ren shook his head.
Ren: "I don't know, Mei. I feel like I'm stuck in this rut, like I'm never going to get out of it."
Mei sighed.
Mei: "I know it's hard, Ren. Losing someone you love is never easy. But you have to remember that you're not alone. You have me, and you have your friends."
Ren nodded slowly, but he didn't feel any better. He felt like he was a burden to everyone around him, like he was dragging them down with his grief. "I don't want to keep leaning on you, Mei. I feel like I'm always relying on you to pick me up."
Mei shook her head.
Mei: "Ren, you're not a burden. I care about you, and I want to be here for you. That's what friends do."
Ren didn't respond, but he felt a small flicker of warmth in his chest. Maybe Mei was right. Maybe he wasn't alone.
.
.
Over the next few weeks, Mei encouraged Ren to start writing again. She knew how much he loved it, and she thought it might help him work through his grief. Ren was hesitant at first, but eventually, he sat down at his computer and started typing.
At first, the words came slowly. Ren felt like he had lost his touch, like he would never be able to write anything meaningful again. But as he continued to write, something shifted inside of him. He started to feel a sense of purpose, a reason to keep going.
Mei was there every step of the way, reading his work and offering feedback. She was patient and kind, never pushing him too hard but always encouraging him to keep going.
As Ren wrote, he started to see a glimmer of hope in his future. He didn't know what it would look like, but he knew that there was something out there for him. He started to see the world in a different light, noticing the small moments of beauty that he had been missing.
One day, Mei came over to Ren's apartment, carrying a large box. "What's that?" he asked, curious.
Mei smiled.
Mei: "It's a surprise," she said. "Open it."
Ren opened the box, and his eyes widened in surprise. Inside was a brand new laptop, the latest model with all the bells and whistles.
Ren: "Mei, I can't accept this," he said, shaking his head.
Mei waved her hand dismissively.
Mei: "Nonsense. You deserve it. And besides, I know how much you love to write. This will help you do it even better."
Ren was touched by her gesture, and he felt a surge of gratitude towards her. Mei had been there for him when he needed her most, and he knew that he would never be able to repay her for all that she had done.
As Ren continued to write, he started to feel like he was making progress. He was starting to heal, to move on from his grief. It wasn't easy, and there were still days when he felt like he was drowning. But he knew that he wasn't alone, and that made all the difference.
And then he received a phone call.....
