After several minutes of walking at a slow pace, they came to a corridor with powerful ultraviolet lights that illuminated the place with an intense purple color.
Arlan did not understand the function of the lights, but they must have been of some use.
The corridor was the same as the others they had passed through, but unlike the others, this one was organized and had several barricades that made it difficult to walk through.
At the end was an ordinary door, but several fully armed men protected it.
This was definitely the entrance to the base.
Several lasers pointed at the group, making Arlan tense, while Kaylynn didn't know what those lights meant, so she didn't give them much importance.
The man leading the way raised his hand and whistled three times. Then the lasers dissipated, and the man continued walking.
After crossing the barricades, they arrived in front of the group of soldiers guarding the gate, and the man spoke to them before they opened the gate.
To Arlan's surprise, beyond the gate was another corridor with more barricades and more soldiers. For such a deep part of the bunker, it was strange that there were so many security measures, it was as if it was done on purpose.
But when they passed through the second door, everything changed.
Arlan couldn't believe what he saw, behind the door it looked like he had entered a completely different place.
The bunker went down to over 8 floors, with a circular open area from the second floor to the top floor, which was the entrance Arlan had just come through.
Hundreds of people were moving from place to place, talking to each other, and performing various tasks.
Arlan was reminded of the business district he had visited with Allete to meet Lia. But instead of expensive suits, most of the people here wore white coats with patches on their chests indicating their names.
Next to her, Kaylynn also had a confused look on her face. She didn't understand how it was possible for something like this to exist under the island.
But that was not what shocked Arlan, he was shocked to see how the people were living their normal lives as if nothing was happening outside. But that was not entirely true, it was clear that they knew what was happening on the island, not for nothing they had to evacuate part of the bunker and take refuge in this area.
But seeing how everyone was completely calm, Arlan wondered if they were all sane.
The man didn't give them time to look around and started to lead them again.
Arlan and Kaylynn followed in silence without saying anything.
Kaylynn still looked down with curiosity and amusement. This was all new to her, all the technology, the design, and the architecture of the place.
Arlan, on the other hand, had a nervous look on his face, still pretending to be afraid. But inside his thoughts were completely different.
'What were they investigating in this place?'
For Arlan this wasn't a bunker, it was a shelter.
He wasn't sure how it worked, but obviously they had resources like water or food to live on. Otherwise, they wouldn't be so relaxed.
Synthetic plants, artificial greenhouses underground, water purification.
There were many ways to create food and drinking water in difficult or completely artificial places. But to feed so many people? that was more complicated.
If they were prepared for something like this or how long they built this place. Arlan didn't know the answer to any of these questions, but that didn't stop him from forming his own hypotheses.
While he was lost in thought, they came to an elevator. The man pushed it to the third floor, where it would surely take them to the infirmary.
But Arlan noticed something that made him pale even more.
'...15 floors'
Although only 8 floors were visible, in reality there were almost twice as many. Floors he doubted he would be able to descend normally or if he would need some kind of security access.
The elevator stopped at the third floor, and they walked on until they reached what looked like a hospital reception area.
The process was quick as the place was practically empty and in no time at all Arlan was showering in a private room that had been assigned to him.
Kaylynn was in a room next to him, also showering, so they both had some time to clean up after all they had been through.
The water came out of the shower and fell on his head, sliding over his body and merging with the blood before falling to the floor and disappearing through the typhoon.
Arlan closed his eyes and enjoyed the feel of the warm water on his skin, it had been several weeks since he had bathed, and he didn't want to waste the moment.
Back in the Beta bunker, there wasn't enough water for everyone to take a shower. They didn't know how long they'd be there, so saving water took precedence over cleanliness, and even though he wiped down regularly, there was nothing like a good shower.
After about fifteen minutes, Arlan had removed all the blood from his body and stepped out of the shower with a towel wrapped around his waist.
Arlan stood in front of the mirror and looked at his reflection for a few seconds in silence.
His hair had grown a few centimeters, the dark circles under his eyes were obvious, and worst of all was his body.
Without the blood in between, Arlan could clearly see the scars that had been left on his chest and right forearm.
In short terms, it was horrible.
Dozens of long scars covered his chest and traces of bite marks on his forearm, along with the skin that had mysteriously regenerated to replace the skin that had already disappeared from the monster's attack.
It wasn't the best view in the world, but at least he had something to show off.
Arlan left the bathroom with a small smile as a result of his thoughts and prepared to meet the people who were going to investigate what had happened by interrogating them.
