Chapter 31 - Bunker Deus

Priests were a rare profession in the world of Kaylynn. They were the people who dedicated their entire lives to worshipping the gods.

According to Kaylynn, it was not easy to become a priest. There were only two ways to become one, the first was to be appointed by the God's own apostle. The second way was to be a direct descendant of a priest who would teach you the trade and pass on the responsibility upon death.

Kaylynn had stated that she had never met the Apostle of the Goddess she prayed to, who was the Goddess of Light.

"So, you received your profession from your...?" asked Arlan curiously.

Kaylynn nodded and sighed.

"From my mother... who was chosen by the Apostle herself"

While priests were chosen by the apostle herself, apostles were chosen by the god himself.

Arlan didn't really believe in gods, he simply had no interest in the subject, but now that he was experiencing surreal things, he had no choice but to believe that there was a greater power that was responsible for everything.

Arlan said nothing, if Kaylynn was a priest and her mother had passed the profession on to her, it meant that she had died for some reason.

"This bandage is... the representation that we are priestesses. We are not allowed to take it off until the day we die" Kaylynn explained.

"Then how are you supposed to read?"

Kaylynn stopped touching the bandage and smiled slightly.

"Just because it covers my eyes doesn't mean I can't see, it's just symbolic. It has a trait that allows me to see through it, after all it was blessed by the goddess herself"

"Trait?"

"It's a quality that few objects have...very few"

Arlan wanted to ask her more about it, but they both froze when they heard a great roar in the forest.

'...This one is different'

Arlan had heard the roar of the Knosprin many times before, but this roar was completely different. It was more serious...more ferocious.

"Let's keep going" Arlan suggested before turning around and walking at a brisk pace.

The roar had been heard far away, but it was best to get as far away as possible. It had been almost an hour since they had fled the village, and it was possible that the monsters would be prowling the forest again.

As they walked, Arlan began to think about everything Kaylynn had told him. There were definitely a lot of different things compared to his world.

Abilities, monsters, beings. It was all very different, but only time would help him adjust. All he knew was that these strange innate abilities were what he needed to take on the monsters and not die trying.

But they were innate, and Arlan clearly didn't have any. No one in his world had any, or so Arlan liked to think.

Another hour passed, and Arlan noticed that walking was getting more difficult, the slope was getting steeper, which meant they were getting closer to the volcano mountain.

According to Tristan, the Deus Bunker was near the base of the volcano since they were investigating the events of 7 years ago, but Arlan did not know the exact location of the bunker, so he had no choice but to search on foot.

The only thing he knew was that it was on this side of the island compared to Bunker Charlie. Another problem they had was time, if they didn't find the bunker they would be in trouble.

Not only were they tired from walking, but Kaylynn was basically exhausted, even if they rested for a while, it wouldn't be enough for her to fully recover.

'Fuck... where's the damn entrance?'

There were still a few hours of sunlight left, giving them more time to search. But luckily for both of them, they didn't need more time, because after almost another full hour of walking around the base of the mountain, they found a road where cars had passed in the past.

Since this was a bunker, they had to get supplies somehow, so there should be a road leading to it nearby. This was what Arlan had been looking for all along.

Finding a bunker in the forest was a very difficult, if not impossible task.

"..." Kaylynn watched the path in silence, she still couldn't believe that another world existed, but she was sure that such a path had never existed before.

Arlan started to follow the path and Kaylynn followed in silence. Although the path led to two different places, it was clear that their destination was in the direction of the mountain.

After another half hour of walking along the path, they finally arrived at the Deus Bunker.

Unlike the Beta bunker, where Arlan had been for almost two full weeks, the Deus bunker had a much larger entrance and even a parking lot for cars.

And yes, there were cars, only they were all completely destroyed, as if they had been crushed by something huge.

Even the few supply trucks that had been parked were completely destroyed.

Arlan blanched, something bigger than the Knosprin was definitely responsible for the condition of the cars. Maybe the Brethel, Arlan just hoped there was no monster bigger than that rhinoceros.

Beside him, Kaylynn watched the cars closely... or what was left of them. It didn't take a genius to know that they were definitely destroyed; even though she'd never seen a car before, she knew that they weren't supposed to be in that condition.

Arlan led her through the parking lot to the entrance of the bunker, but as soon as they reached the big metal door, he thought it might have been a better idea to stay in town and ask for help.

'Well...fuck'

The bunker door was wide open, you could even see that something had tried to break it down because of how twisted it was.

The door simply hadn't fallen down because whatever had hit it had opened it before completely destroying it.

Arlan looked back and saw nothing but trees and more trees. Staying in the forest was not an option, so the only thing left for them to do was to enter the bunker and pray that whatever had destroyed the cars and doors was not inside.
