Chapter 2
When Lapizo was fourteen years old, he went to the police station to report a robbery. He had stolen a gun from a policeman named Jorge. It was a.22 caliber revolver and Lapizo carried it around with him everywhere. It was loaded and ready. His mother had bought the pistol and had put a bullet in it every single night since Lapizo learned to shoot. Even though Lapizo loved his mother, he still didn't want to end up dead, especially not after he just graduated university. So he was very cautious of carrying a gun around everywhere. But he had gone through training with his mom, so it was easier for him than for others.
As soon as he walked into the police station, his eyes landed on a tall and handsome boy sitting on one of the benches. The boy had black hair, dark eyes, and thin lips. He wore red glasses. He was reading a newspaper. His shirt was opened enough to reveal his collarbones and chest, and Lapizo couldn't stop staring at it, despite being told not to do it in the police station.
After a few seconds, Lapizo snapped out of it. The boy looked up and his eyes met Lapizo's. Lapizo blushed and quickly lowered his gaze. Then he noticed that the boy was staring at him. He looked at Lapizo curiously, almost as if he wanted to say something. But he didn't, and then the officer who was standing next to him, asked him if he could take a statement. Lapizo was nervous, because he hadn't talked to anyone yet and he didn't know how to answer. He was terrified to do something wrong.
The boy stood up, leaving his newspaper on the bench. He walked towards Lapizo. The policemen tried to talk to him, but he ignored them and walked right up to Lapizo. When he got close, Lapizo stepped back, bumping into a table, knocking over an inkwell, and finally falling backwards. He landed hard on the floor, but didn't fall completely. He groaned and slowly pulled himself off the ground. When he stood up straight, his back hit a wall. There was a small gap between his desk and the wall. This gave him an idea. He placed his hands against the wall and leaned into it, pushing himself up and pulling his legs up too. After he stood on the edge of the desk and pushed himself up until he reached the ceiling, he jumped down, landing perfectly on top of the table. He smiled widely at his accomplishment and looked around.
He was on the third floor. On the second floor he could see two women sitting behind a counter. On the third floor was where most of the cops worked. They were the ones who dealt with the bank robbers. If any of them saw Lapizo and recognized him, they would send him to jail immediately. Lapizo didn't care. He was tired and hungry and desperate to get away from his mom. So he jumped off the table. When he landed, the floor shook. He fell to the ground and rolled onto his side. His head hurt but other than that, he felt okay. He looked over his shoulder and saw the police officers running down the stairs. He picked himself up off the floor and ran towards the staircase leading to the lobby.
His hands hurt, so he held them in front of his face. A bruise was forming under his right eye where he had fallen. He stopped in the middle of the hallway, waiting to see if the officers followed him, but it seemed like they weren't coming any time soon. Lapizo sighed quietly and started walking again, hoping to reach his destination as soon as possible. It was his last stop before heading home.
On the way home, Lapizo thought about Mimi. She was really nice. He didn't like her very much, but she was nice to him. She treated him like a human being instead of just a criminal. But there was something bothering him about her. Something about the way she acted, that was different from normal girls.
"Why is she smiling to me like that?" Lapizo whispered. He remembered the smile Mimi used when she saw his gun. He wondered if Mimi smiled like that to everyone and if she ever smiled at him like that, too. "Maybe she knows how dangerous I am. Maybe she is trying to scare me."
Lapizo frowned at the thought. It wasn't funny, but thinking like that made him wonder if Mimi actually knew how dangerous he was. He wouldn't put it past her considering how close they were.
Once Lapizo arrived at his apartment building, he turned around. He looked back and forth between Mimi and the police station. He hoped that Mimi wasn't still here, although he wasn't sure if he wanted that. He wanted to leave her alone now that he knew he was dangerous and maybe she would be safe. Still, he hesitated for a minute, unsure whether he should go. He knew he should turn around and run away and hide somewhere. He should hide in a safe place like a safe house or a hospital. But he wanted to talk to her even less.
