Chapter 7 - Kingdom of Eclipse (1)

"Hey Arch!"

Arch was lying under the tree as he stares below him, he turns around and notices Art successfully escaped but was bleeding and his clothing was burnt. Arch got up and went towards Art with a worried expression.

"Art are you fine?"

"Do I look like I'm fine?"

"Errmm... maybe?"

"It's fine, you also had gone through it so I can't really put the blame on you."

"I'm sorry..."

"It's alright, what matters is we got out of there alive."

Art looks around the area and realizes he is on a mount.

"By the way where are we Arch?"

"We are somehow at the Moonlight Valley, it is rather weird about the fact a path in the hole leads to this area. I assume it's probably some spies using this method to bypass the identification gates."

The Moonlight Valley is one of the various hills which surround the Kingdom of Eclipse, it has obtained its name for being the hill that has the most directed light from the moon.

"Should there not be any tourists here? This place is quite popular at night."

"It would have, but the Kingdom is in a state of emergency as it's currently at war with the Order of Truth... though I don't know what our Kingdom has done to be invaded by the Order of Truth."

"Maybe the Kingdom has done something wrong?"

The Order of Truth is a massive organization comparable to that of an empire, they maintain the balance of the world by disrupting the distribution of taboo knowledge and equally sharing knowledge with the rest of Terra.

'I know what happens next, it would not be a good idea to stay any longer.' Art thought to himself as he gathers the plants near the tree.

"What are you doing?"

"Oh, I'm gathering some moon-dew drops from the Moonlit Grass"

"What's that?"

"Moon-dew drops are from the Moonlit Grass which when gathered and drank will heal your body, though not as much as potions."

"You sure are knowledgeable about this..." Arch says to Art while having doubts about him.

"Knowledge sure is power, hahaha..." Art laughs it awkwardly, while gathering he notices the book Arch gave to him was lying next to the ground as he kneeled to get moon-dews.

"Oh, you didn't use that?" Arch got up and went towards Art.

"What is this?" Art picked up the book and showed it to Arch.

"I don't know, but I heard from the people in the kingdom that the thing is called a 'Grimoire' or 'Magic Book'. I found it randomly while collecting the loot in the chest."

"I see..."

"You're a mage, right? You should be able to use this thing."

"I don't even know how to use this."

In the game 'Last Resort', grimoires were rare items that gave players passive or active skills. The conditions for obtaining them vary and some need specific requirements like titles, stats, or another skill to use the grimoire and obtain the skills.

"Just keep it for now I guess, it might be useful in the future."

"Alright, thanks."

Art drank some moon-dews and plucked out some grass from the ground and wrapped it on his shoulder, acting as a sort of bandage.

"Status."

[Art Thisera: Level 1]

[Title: -]

[Class: -]

[Status Points: 0]

[STR:7 DEX:9 DEF: 5 MAG:27 MANA:32]

[Passives: Ramiel's Gift (-)]

[Actives: R.E.Q.U.I.E.M (EX)]

"I guess my innate stats are pretty good."

Innate Stats are stats that are given when a character is created, innate stats are randomly generated and are a one-time thing only, the average innate stats of a player is 50-60 and are distributed randomly.

"My Magic potential is seriously absurd..."

However, for Art, his Magic and Mana are very high for a level 1 player. He is gifted which exceeds the average amount with high compatibility for Magic which is uncommon.

"Hey Arch! Is there any Class Temple around here?"

"There is one in the Kingdom of Eclipse, it should be nearby!"

Class Temples are buildings that give you a class, you can choose from one of the 5 starting classes which are; Warrior, Mage, Rogue, and Cleric. The conditions for picking one of the classes are having 20 status points on a specific stat.

Warrior needs 20 on STR or DEF, Mages need 20 on MAG, Rogues need 20 on DEX and Clerics need 20 on MANA.

In 'Last Resort', each time a player leveled up they would get 3 status points and the maximum level in the game was 9999, therefore 3 of the statuses will be maxed out eventually.

"Arch, can you lead me there?"

"Sure."

Art got up and packed his things, before leaving he admired the beautiful environment of the tree, he smiled and left with Arch.

In a certain cave underground was a group of people trying to stop a person from going berserk. It was the enemy squad that was chasing Art and Arch, they were now trying to calm their leader.

"Find that rat! We went towards that hole!" The leader of the squad kept slashing the hole as the wall around it began to crack.

"Leader stop it please! The entire wall will collapse on us!

"No! We will find those rats and extract the information they have!"

"It's no use, they already left!"

"I will not give up trying to bash their skulls open!" As the leader kept slashing the wall, the small orbs embedded into their armor were glowing.

"I think it's time to return." The leader sighed in annoyance and commanded everyone to return to where they came from, soon after a voice was heard in their armors. The sound of a man was heard.

"Announcement, every troop on the battlefield return to Station #2 and bring any remaining enemy as prisoners of war."

The orbs began to crack.

"I repeat, every troop on the battlefield return to Station #2 and bring any remaining enemy as prisoners of war."

The orbs shattered and fell to the ground, they dissipated and disappeared. The enemy squad left the hall underground and headed back to the surface.

The moon hides and the sun rises, dawn has arrived while soothing wind flows across. Art and Arch kept walking to the Kingdom of Eclipse while drinking edible fruits and drank fresh water they found while walking, they arrived at the border of the Kingdom.

"We are here, we can rest a bit now," Arch says as he pointed towards the gates of the border.

Several carriages were heading towards the gate as people went in and out of the gates, they were inspected by people in iron armor with iron swords which allowed them to enter and exit.

"Is it usually this crowdy?" Art asks.

"No, not really. Must be the emergency state in the kingdom right now."

While both of them wait in line to be inspected, a group of 5 people went behind them and got in line as well.

A man with blond hair, brown eyes, and heavy white armor was leading them, the man greets Arch as he was directly behind them.

"Hey ya'll!" The man spoke in an informal manner towards Arch.

"Hey there, what's the occasion?"

"Nothing much, we are just here to visit the Kingdom for some profits y'know?"

"Profits... are you talking about the state of emergency the Kingdom is in?"

"Yeaaaah, we mercenaries need to make a living too!"

A woman with green hair in a black cloak that covers most of her body, which makes her yellow eyes glow a bit due to the shadow of the cloak interrupts the conversation and covers the man's mouth.

"I apologize for our leader's actions." The woman grabbed his head and bowed while her hand forced him to bow as well.

"What did I do?"

"Quiet, you're disrespecting the Kingdom right now." The woman dragged the man's ears as they walk away and both of them went behind the squad's queue line, the man's complaint over the pain could be heard.

"What just happened?" Arch asks Art in a confused thought.

"That's normal, you'll get used to it." Art, unconcerned about the thing that just happened.

They wait for the people at the front to be inspected, minutes go by and they arrive at the inspection area. The guards question them for their identities, they first approached Arch.

"Knight, state your name, affiliation, and purpose." The guards asked as they held an orb that was colorless.

"Arch, Kingdom of Eclipse. Eclipse Guards Division. We are here to give important news to the commander."

The orb they held turned into a blue as it shone with a cyan glow. The guards retract and allow Arch to enter, Art was the next person to be inspected.

"Mage, state your name, affiliation, and purpose.

"Art Thisera..."

'Wait, what affiliation do I give!?'

Art panics as he realizes he is not affiliated with anything in this world yet, so he does not have any way to answer the question. The guard pointed his sword at Art and asked the question again.

"Affiliation."

'What do I do!?'

Art remembers that the orb they were holding was the 'Orb of Truth', they can detect whether a person is lying or not.

'Wait, can't I use my past life's affiliation?'

"16Boxes Corporation..."

The orb did not light up yet, so he continued.

"I am here to find someone, and to enter the Class Temple."

The orb turned blue and shined, Art's anxiety turned to relief, and sighed. The guard lowered and kept his sword as he backs away a bit.

"You may enter."

Art walked into the gate as the guard asked the next person, Arch was waiting at the end of the gate.

"The hell is 16Boxes Corporation?"

"Don't ask."

"Seriously what is that name?"

Art ignored Arch and went ahead.

"Wait for me!" Arch ran towards Art to catch up.

They got out of the gate and actually entered the Kingdom of Eclipse, tall buildings, markets, and people flourished in the kingdom, the front gate was crowded with people with weapons as well as vendors selling items near.

"by the way Arch, where are you going?"

"I'm going to the commander to report about the situation we faced, it's gonna be chaos here in a few days maybe."

"I see..."

Art stopped walking, and so did Arch.

"So this is where we part ways huh?"

"I guess so."

"Alright, I hope to see you again." Arch started walking away from Art before he ran back toward Art again.

"I forgot to give ya this."

Arch gave Art 12 golden coins in his palm secretly.

"I found this in the treasure chest, It had 20 golden coins. I figured you had no money from your adventure."

"Thank you." Art shook Arch's hand.

"No problem! Alright, see you soon!" Arch ran towards the crowd of people in the opposite direction and left Art, he was left alone again.

"Guess I'm alone again."

Art walks towards the Class Temple to get his class change, he could see a long line outside the temple, filled with people trying to get their class.

'Should I even get the basic classes?'

As Art was the one who wrote the entire story for the game, he knows there are classes that are rare and can only be obtained by specific requirements, though some do not have branches of the class.

"Ramiel's Gift."

The book appeared out of thin air and hovered around Art, he quickly took the book and tried opening it.

[Access Denied, 29 Days Cooldown.]

Art forcibly tried opening it, the book did not open.

[User can only access Scenario 281: Tales of Truth.]

The book opened itself, and the book hovered in front of him as the pages turn itself.

[User has activated progression system.]

'What is happening...?'

A transparent blue page from the book hovered above the open book which turned into another panel.

[Scenario 281: Tales of Truth]

[In 35 days, the Order of Truth will invade the Kingdom of Eclipse to secure and contain forbidden knowledge deep inside the laboratory.]

[Rewards: 10 Levels, 1 Random Passive Skill (B-A+).]

[Requirements: Steal the forbidden knowledge and capture said experiment.]

[Failure #1 - Failing to obtain the forbidden knowledge: No Levels will be given.]

[Failure #2- Failing to capture said experiment: No Random Passive Skill.]

[Failure #3- Failing to complete both tasks: Death.]

[Additional Rewards will be given If said task is completed faster.]

"Interesting..." Art was shocked at first, then quickly adapted to what was happening after a minute.

'This was meant to happen in some form or way.'

As the nearby people saw the book just floating in the air as the pages were turning, Art hurriedly jumped, grabbed the book, and hid it in his bag.

'I hope no one sees this as a Grimoire...' Art hurriedly rushed to the queue line of the Class Temple.
