Chapter 8 - Kingdom of Eclipse (2)

Art waits in line for the class change, he has been standing there and moving forward for 1 hour, after waiting for what felt like an eternity he manages to enter the class temple. A female priest was In front of the door.

"Welcome to the Class Temple, please be quick as others are waiting to enter."

"I will be."

Art opens the door with both hands and enters the class temple, the temple was filled with lights shining above, and statues of martyrs carved onto the walls, in the middle of the temple was a fountain.

'This is even bigger than I expected.' Art walks to the fountain and places his hand in the fountain. A panel appeared above the fountain.

[Class Change]

[Mage]

[Healer]

"As expected, only 2 of the classes that I have the requirements are only present."

Art hovers his hand on both of the options.

"But what should I pick?"

In the game, every basic class has its own ups and downs, but they mostly are equal and balanced.

"The Mage class would be a good pick.."

The Mage class was a class that specialized in offensive powers, they are usually destructive and powerful but have a lot of drawbacks. One of which was too much mana being used, if one used all of their mana they won't be able to move.

"But..."

The Cleric Class was a class specialized in support, they provide buffs and debuffs. The most important part was it was able to heal multiple people at once. However, offensive skills are low so you can't fight on your own.

'I still don't know much about how this world works, granted I wrote the story but I'm not exactly omnipotent.'

Art knew the world, but at the same time not know how the world works. Survival is the main priority for him, he does not want to be arrogant about the world that will eventually kill him.

"Guess I know what to pick."

Art tapped the options on the panel, it disappeared and the fountain glowed.

[User has picked Cleric Class]

[Passive: Benevolence (F) has been learned!]

[Passive: Kindred Heart (F) has been learned!]

[Active: Heal (F) has been learned!]

[Active: Holy Light (F) has been learned!]

['Holy' stat has been unlocked]

"Maybe this was a horrible idea, can't go back either way."

The notifications of the panel in front of him disappeared as the fountain started to return to its original state.

Art went back to the gate and headed outside the temple, as soon as he stepped out another person entered. The people outside the temple were waiting for someone else or were just celebrating about their class.

While Art watches them, he realizes his damaged shoulders that were covered in moonlight grass were making people look at him, he felt an unnerving feeling.

'I need to get my suit fixed and complete this stupid quest as soon as possible...'

Art went ahead to find a tavern nearby to try and get a place to stay for the month, he walked far but most of the taverns he went to was either closed, full or not available.

'I want to rest, I'm tired of walking...'

While Art searches for an available tavern, he accidentally bumps into a man, Arch falls and drops Ramiel's Gift on the ground.

"I'm sorry." Art quickly got up and picked up Ramiel's Gift.

"You hurt me for the damage you caused, you need to pay compensation otherwise I will have you arrested!" The man looked like a petty gangster.

"Okay, what must I do to compensate as I don't have any money right now." Art played along with the man to see what his goals were.

"Your book, a rich kid like you carrying that must be a burden, give it to me and I'll bring it to your destination!" The man had his eyes locked onto the book, he was preying on the book Art was holding as it looked expensive.

"I see, how about we go somewhere safe for the transaction?" Art pointed at a nearby alleyway, the man showed a smug face towards Art.

"It seems you know what the situation is, wise choice kid." The man dragged Art's arm towards the alleyway, with only him and Art being there.

"Before I give this book, why do you need this?"

"I will sell it, those grimoires go for a hefty price."

"How much exactly?"

"5 to 100 gold coins depending on if it's rare or not, now give it to me!" The man takes the book away from Art.

"Happy now?"

"Why do you seem to care more about what I am doing rather than your own life?"

"Because it's futile." Art raises his hand upward.

"What are you doing..?" The man became cautious of Art's movement.

"Requi-" As Art was about to finish his sentence, a girl leaped towards the man and pinned him to the ground.

"Hello there traveler! were you troubled by this trash?"

A girl with brown hair, and golden eyes in a casual white dress was on top of the man, the girl stepped on the man's head as he waves toward Art.

"Let me go you bastard!"

"Shut up will ya?" The girl shoved a rock in the man's mouth, which made him unable to talk. The girl quickly tied the man up and left him immobilized.

"You're not from here are you?" The girl looked around Art's clothing, items, and body. She sniffed Art as much as she could.

"What are you doing...?"

"I'm sniffing you!" She answered cheerfully towards Art.

"I mean, this is uncomfortable..." Art held his arms to himself and stared at the girl with a disgusted look.

"Are you a pervert?"

The girl backed away from Art and her face was flustered by Art's question.

"W-What?! O-O-Of course not!" Her words were stuttering as her hands were being thrown everywhere.

"So what is your purpose?" As Art questioned the girl, became more stable now.

"You looked like you were searching for a place to stay, so I wanted to invite to our tavern!"

"Tavern you say..."

"Oh if you're wondering about the price, it's not overpriced don't worry!"

"How much?"

"Well, it's 1 silver per week!"

'1 silver per week? that sounds too good to be true...' While Art was thinking about whether to accept the offer, the girl stares at Art's face which was filled with suspicion.

"Don't worry! Our establishment is legal!"

Art's eyes lit up in astonishment, the girl offers her hand for a handshake and Art agreed and shook her hand.

"I suppose we have a deal?"

"Yes! we do have a deal."

As they were shaking hands, the gangster who was tied to the ground and had a big rock in his mouth was mumbling.

"Shut up criminal!"

The girl went towards the man, raised her hand high, and smacked the man's next. The man immediately was unconscious.

"Are you sure he's not dead...?"

"Of course not! I would never kill someone unless I have to."

"That last part of the sentence is not very convincing."

"Trade secrets!"

The girl dragged the unconscious man to the guards, then guided Art to the tavern the girl was talking about.

"Oi traveler, what's your name?"

"Art, Art Thisera."

"Ooooohhhh, you must be of noble status?"

"What made you think of that?"

"Well, only nobles and royalties have last names!"

"Oh really? Unfortunately for them, I'm just one of the normal daily walking common people."

"Doesn't seem like it!"

"Well suit yourself." Art shrugs his shoulders as he follows the girl.

"My name is Synthesia! You will be in my company from now on!"

"I look forward to that."

'The name is very familiar, Synthesia... unfortunately I can't read Ramiel's Gift nor do I remember who she was. But I am very sure she is crucial to the story in the future.'

After walking for about 10 minutes, the tavern was in front of them, it was a wooden building that seemingly had no people inside.

"We're here!" Synthesia opens the doors, and inside the tavern were 17 people talking, drinking, and eating.

"It's pretty lively here."

"Naturally!"

Art steps into the tavern and the people there welcome his presence. They offered Art to drink or eat with them, but Art politely refused with a smile on his face. Synthesia drags Art to the counter.

"Is there supposed to be a person here?"

"Obviously!"

Synthesia and Art waited patiently, they waited and waited. Until Synthesia started becoming impatient.

"Dad! I bought a customer!" Synthesia shouted loudly as she could, soon after that the sound of plates could be heard falling to the ground as heavy steps were approaching.

A tall muscular man with brown hair and brown eyes arrives to the counter and hugged Synthesia.

"Where did you go my baby!?" The father hugged Synthesia tightly, Synthesia was struggling to get out.

"Dad let me go! I'm old enough to go outside!"

"I've been worried about you talking to strangers! The world is a cruel and unjust place you know."

"Dad I know that!" Synthesia was trying to get out of her Father's hug, he stopped hugging her and went towards Art.

"You. What is your relationship with my daughter?" The father asked Art in a serious tone.

"Just acquaintances."

"My dear daughter is that true?"

Synthesia went in between Art and her father as she opens her hands and separates Art and her father.

"Yes, he is just here to stay."

Her father went towards the counter and welcomed Art to the tavern, his serious tone was now a friendly tone.

"So how long will you be spending the week?"

"I don't actually know, maybe a year?"

Art didn't know how long he would have to stay in the Kingdom of Eclipse, he really was only there to get a class and was forced to complete the quest that the system gave him.

"That's quite bizarre, that is a long time to stay in a tavern."

Art places a single golden coin on the counter desk.

"Will this be enough?"

"It is, but aren't you overpaying?"

"It's fine."

The father took the golden coin and inspected it, before flipping it into the air and catching it.

"No refunds!"

"Alright, I understand."

"Synthesia my dear, bring him to his lounge."

Synthesia took Art's bag and headed upstairs, Art followed Synthesia and made it to the door of the room.

"This is your room, enjoy your stay!" Synthesia dropped the bag and headed back downstairs.

Art took his bag and opened the door, inside the room was a bed, an open-view window, some weird artifacts on the table, and a lantern.

"For a tavern that only has a payment for 1 silver coin per week, this is quite cozy."

Art went near the wall and placed his hand on the wall, it was very cold and sturdy.

'It seems the walls are quite thick.'

Art knocked on the walls, he could not hear any sound. It was attached with Soundproof Magic.

'Let's see.'

Art inspected every part of the tavern to check if anything was suspicious, the only suspicious thing he found was a knife under the bed.

'This knife seems to be normal, no magic carvings or symbols on it.'

He kept the knife in his bag, he found nothing worthwhile in the room that was dangerous.

"The room here is quite cozy and comfortable, the environment around this place is fairly good, the price for the tavern is cheap, and soundproof walls. This place seems too good for its price, there must be a catch somewhere."

The tavern was in a place where few people come, it's practically an unknown area of the Kingdom, so Art was skeptical about the whole thing.

After searching every part of the room, he sat on the bed and scattered his items on it. Ramiel's Gift, a random Grimoire, 11 golden coins, and 7 moonlight grass.

'Nothing useful to me for survival in battles.'

While on the bed there was a mirror next to it, he completely forgot about the fact the suit on his shoulder was burnt and exposed his shoulder which was covered in moonlight grass.

"Status."

[Art Thisera: Level 1]

[Title: -]

[Class: Cleric]

[Status Points: 0]

[STR:7 DEX:9 DEF: 5 MAG:27 MANA:32]

[Passives: Ramiel's Gift (-), Kindred Heart (F), Benevolence (F)]

[Actives: R.E.Q.U.I.E.M (EX), Heal (F), Holy Light (F)]

Art on his bed, was checking what his new abilities were, multiples panels hovered in front of Art.

[Heal (F)]

[Heal is a beginner spell that is given to 'Holy' classes that moderately heals the body by consuming Mana.]

[Holy Light (F)]

[Holy Light is a beginner spell given to 'Holy classes, strengthen the people around the user by consuming Mana. If Holy Light is used against 'Impure' enemies, will deal damage instead.]

[Benevolence (F)]

[Benevolence is a passive given to 'Holy' classes, increased healing when not self.]

[Kindred Heart (F)]

[Kindred Heart is a passive given to 'Holy' classes, giving slight resistance towards mental attacks.]

"All of these are decent for F class abilities, though 'Heal' is the only one I'm after."

Art swiped right every panel he sees and stood up, placing his palm on his shoulder.

"Heal."

Nothing happened. Art was confused about why it didn't activate.

"Wait, don't tell me..."

Art remembers all the times he had used R.E.Q.U.I.E.M, Art raised his other arm high and snapped his fingers.

"Heal."

A green light emerged from his palm that was on his shoulders, he felt light and tingly on his shoulder, and the light disappeared after.

[Heal has been used.]

He moved his shoulder around, he still felt pain but the wounds on it were gone, he safely removed the moonlight grass that was covering the wound. Art stood up and felt dizzy, he was unable to maintain balance.

'This is probably because I used actual skills for the first time.'

Unlike all the other skills he had, 'R.E.Q.U.I.E.M' is an ability that has no Mana consumption due to Art requesting Ramiel to make it.

'She most likely forgot to add the 'Mana Consumption' part...'

Art had goosebumps, thinking whether Ramiel could manage the entire company as even this one mistake might be game-breaking.

"Whatever, I'm no longer there." Art smiles and leaves the room with confidence, he forgot to take his coins and went back to the room and took the 11 golden coins on the table.

"It's shopping time."
