Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Loki Morningwood

Loki opened his eyes and found himself in the middle of nowhere with nothing that could be seen but white light and a stone platform he was standing on. Right in front of him, at the end of the platform was a staircase with an end he could not see because of the blinding light.

Loki was a 24 years old office worker, a life that he considered as mundane and uneventful. He was wearing dark blue sweatpants and a sweater complete with dark blue rubber shoes. The last thing he remembered was he was jogging on the street on Sunday morning, taking his much-awaited off since the Monday of that week.

Loki had obsidian black hair and eyes, white skin, and a height of six feet and one inch.

He wandered his gaze around with confusion in his eyes. "Where am I?"

"You have finally arrived, my chosen hero." Said a godly voice coming from the top of the staircase in front of Loki.

The blinding light subsided and revealed a white throne made of marble. Standing on the throne was an old man brimming with an immaculate aura surrounding him. He was wearing a pure white gown which had the same color as his back-length white hair and chest-length beard. His gray eyes darted at Loki, he stood up with such grace and elegance.

"Forgive me for summoning you without a prior notice, but now that you are here, let me give you a proper greeting, a divine greeting from a god." The godly entity smiled at Loki and slowly raised his right hand forward. "Welcome to my chamber, Loki Morningwood—I am not gonna lie, that's one weird ass surname. The world must have hated your family to have such a silly last name."

Loki's jaw dropped due to the image of a divine entity standing in front of him. "Jesus Christ!" He screamed out of surprise and confusion.

"Nope—nope. Not again." The divine entity immediately replied. "I am afraid you are referring to another god. I am not that person. I am Lak the god of luck."

Loki slowly walked back while maintaining his eyes on Lak. "If I am here in front of a god... Does that mean I am already dead? But I don't remember dying... I am pretty sure there was no truck where I was jogging."

"Being crushed by a truck is not something I would make you suffer from—that's straight-up cruel and twisted," Lak said. "You didn't die. I snatched you."

"You snatched me?" Loki asked in confusion while narrowing his eyebrows.

"Yes. But I did it for a very good reason." Lak answered and sat on his throne. "You see, I am a god who has jurisdiction in more than one world. And one of the worlds which I am part of the pantheon of, the world of Earthish is currently in great chaos. And I am in desperate need to send a hero to fight the dark lord who is aiming to conquer that world."

"Wow, how original," Loki commented as he crossed his arms.

"And you are the one I have chosen because of your heroic qualities, Loki Morningw—I won't say that silly last name again." Lak pointed his finger at Loki. "You are the best candidate to be that hero."

"And what heroic qualities are we talking about? I am having trouble remembering any, would you mind giving me at least one?" Loki said, narrowing his eyes.

"Hmm. There are so many I can't choose what to say." Lak said as he leaned on his throne and put his hand on his chin. "I wonder which one to say."

"Just one."

"Don't rush young man—oh, you saved a cat from falling from a tree this morning... That's a very heroic deed." Lak said, raising his index finger.

"Do you mean the one who jumped on my face and scratched my face for no particular reason? I didn't save it, I didn't even know it was there, it just came out of nowhere while I was jogging—now that I think about it, that white cat really just randomly appeared out of nowhere and disappeared. Strange." Loki said and uncrossed his arms. "Is there a more heroic quality you can mention... You know, a real heroic quality."

Lak narrowed his eyes and stared at Loki.

"You just randomly grabbed me, didn't you—"

"Ah, hero. Don't dig about not important matters—and oh, have I already told you I am giving you a magic ability?" Lak said with a smile. "A very powerful one."

"Forget about everything I said earlier, you have got me with magic ability," Loki said and raised his thumb. "What ability are we talking about? And no matter what that is, you already have me on board just because!"

"Just like I said, I am the god of luck... And randomness—and as my avatar, I am giving you my power to help you in your quest to defeat the completely unique and very original dark lord who is trying to bring destruction to the world of Earthish." Lak leaned forward. "I will improve your luck."

"Oh, luck. That sounds great." Loki said, nodding. "But... I mean, I am not asking for too much but at least a 25% increase in luck will be preferable."

"Not 25%," Lak said and shook his head. "I am raising your luck to 1 million times! You will be so lucky that logic itself will bend to your will! The skill, Absolute Luck!"

"What! That's ridiculous and doesn't make any sense at all! But it sounds cool so I would agree with you, Lord Lak!" Loki screamed.

"I know! What kind of god am I giving an overpowered ability to a shady person with non-existing redeeming qualities without proper thought about the inevitable consequences of my action? The best one!" Lak said, releasing a roaring laugh.

"Yes! Yes! You are the best god of all! Lord Lak!" Loki raised his hands but furrowed his eyebrows. "Wait. Shouldn't it be called Reality Manipulation because of the extent of the power of the ability? I mean, calling it luck by now is very unfitting."

"Shut up." Lak cleared his throat and faced Loki. "Save the world and its inhabitants and slay the dark lord. And once you succeed, you will receive a reward beyond your imagination. Now, Hero, Loki Mor—uhm... Are you accepting my request to send you to the world of Earthish? A definitely original medieval-themed world of magic and mystery."

"Do I have a choice?" Loki asked.

"I prefer to not give you any," Lak replied.

"Alright! I am just gonna agree with your offer without questioning the painfully obvious elephant in the room of why you need to send me to another world rather than solve the problem yourself with your godly power!" Loki screamed.

"Good, because I don't have the time to think about it either!"

"And that without thinking about the life and family I will be leaving behind!" Loki raised both of his thumbs and smirked. "Count me in!"

"Good—now, goodbye—and good luck."

Then, a white portal opened where Loki was and he fell while screaming curses as he traveled into another world.

Leaving behind was Lak with a gentle smile on his face. Then, his body transformed into a cat with pure white fur that had holy white light rotating around him. "I know you can do it... Hero, Loki Morningwood... Saying that stupid surname really leaves a bad taste in my mouth."

The Hero had been sent to the world of Earthish.
