Chapter 1 - 1| My Inevitable Doom

Train Wreck - James Arthur

Everly's POV:

IT'S MY LAST year in college which means I'm a senior now. Everything has been going well, fantastic even. It's been great so far and I really didn't notice how much time had flown by. There was only one problem though, and it had caused a whole lot of damage in the past; but hanging on to toxicity was something I had done for quite a while and let's just say, I wasn't in the right state of mind.

"Hey, Ev!" Annabeth, my best friend's voice pulled me out of my reverie. "What are you thinking about? I can practically see the wheels turning in your head," She said before she applied a little more mascara on her lashes.

"Oh, don't be so dramatic," I rolled my eyes at her antics."... nothing major, just... stuff." Was the only dumb reply I could give her, which in turn, made her give me a 'what kind of stuff' look. Beth knew exactly what was going on in my head. It was like we had some kind of best friend telepathy shit going on.

I just let out an exasperated sigh and continued with my makeup. Beth had guilt-tripped me into going to one of her weekend parties. This one just so happened to be hosted by one of our classmates, who I knew nothing about. And I didn't really have a choice because all the other times she had invited me to come along with her, I would always come up with one excuse or another, so I guess luck ran out on me today.

"You better not be thinking about that piece of shit again." She said with a pointed look.

"Just drop it, Beth," I said already annoyed at where this was going to lead us to. Thankfully, she dropped it but I knew this wasn't going to be the end of this conversation today.

I let out a deep sigh as I turned to look at my best friend. The one person I could rely on and trust my life with. She's one of the strongest people I have ever known and if I say her beauty doesn't compliment her attitude, I would be full on lying.

From her curly red hair, which was enough to make any man fall at her feet, to her brown eyes that were the only things our features had in common. Hers would probably be the darkest shade of brown you could think of, that was one of the things that made her so unique.

To her body that looked like she literally just strutted out of a magazine. I won't say I'm not pretty, but I wouldn't say I was mind blowingly beautiful either.

"So have you decided on what to wear?" Her question brought me out of my thoughts. I walked closer to the bed where some clothes were thinking of how I could pick a dress from the skimpy pieces of clothing she had picked out. I carefully checked for the one that covered, at least, a little bit more skin. I didn't even remember buying any of these clothes so I'll just assume they were from one of our many aimless shopping sprees.

I picked a black long sleeved white crop top with black high waist jeans and black ankle length heeled boots. I showed her the clothes and even though there was a look on her face that showed she disagreed with my choice, it was gone as fast as it came. Probably because she knew if she started her drama, I would end up not going after all, so she just nodded and sat on the bed then picked up her phone as she was waiting for me to get dressed.

After I had changed into the clothes, I turned to face the mirror that leaned on the wall. Before I could acknowledge my appearance, I heard a loud deafening screech coming from none other than my best friend.

"You look amazing!" Beth screamed. I just gave her a thankful smile before I picked up my keys and walked out of the apartment Beth and I owned. I couldn't stay in there any longer because I knew that if I stayed even a second longer, she would burst out my eardrums.

"Beth!" I called out to her as I reached outside.

"Coming, coming, don't get your thong in a twist." she said as she held up her purse and mine__that I had forgotten when I dashed out of the house. "Thanks," I said as I opened the purse to check if all that I needed was there. Especially my phone.

We locked up the apartment, and I opened my car which was a black Audi R8 __which I know is insanely expensive for a college student like me to own __but, I have snobbish brats as parents. And they're usually busy all the time, so they tend to buy me expensive things and give me money to 'make up for the lost time' __their words not mine.

I really don't have a problem with the money and other things but it's irritating when they think money can solve all their problems.

I quickly went into the car when I noticed the look Beth was giving me. She stepped into the car and stopped my hand immediately when I was about to start the car. A sigh left my lips as I withdrew my hand from starting the car then leaned back in my seat.

"Everly, you do know I'm your best friend right?" She said in a voice that sounded like she was extremely hurt. And hearing it alone was enough to make my mood worse.

"Yeah," I replied in a small voice. "Yeah, I do."

"Then why are you doing this to me and yourself?" Deafening silence encompassed the whole car, making it harder for me to think or breathe properly. When she realized I wasn't going to say anything, she continued, "I try my best to make you open up to me, to tell me anything but it seems like you're just going further and further away from me."

It pained me that she felt this way, but the thing was that, I don't know what to say; how to put them in words, because I was scared and broken to the point of insanity.

"It's hard," is the only thing I could bring out. She might have noticed that I didn't want to talk about this so she just released a long breath and sank into her seat.

"I just want you to know that I love you and I'll always be there for you."

"I love you too."

..

We had just arrived at the house__correction, mansion__ that the party was being held at. We both got out of the car and I clicked the car shut before walking up the steps leading to the front door. As Beth pushed open the front door, I felt a bile forming in my throat but I tried my best to push it down.

"Okay, hang in there, let's get you a drink," she said as she probably saw the look on my face. We pushed through the crowd till we reached the counter where there was probably a whole liquor store on the top. I went over to a cooler that was beside the refrigerator and searched for a bottle of water which __when I was sure it wasn't open__I brought to my lips and took a sip of the refreshing water.

I glanced over at Beth and I noticed that she kept on looking at the mass of bodies that were swaying to the tune of the music. When I was sure that she was looking for Dylan, her boyfriend, I gave her a small smile before I spoke.

"You do know I'm an adult right?" I asked in a slightly amused tone. "You can go meet your boyfriend, I'll just find a way to entertain myself, don't worry about me"

"Are you sure?" she asked hesitantly.

"Yes, I am," I said encouragingly. I couldn't let her babysit me like I was some child just because of my own problems.

"Alright, if you need me, I'll be with Dylan or you can just call or text me, okay?"

"Yes, mom," I replied playfully as I mock saluted her. She just let out a small laugh before she went on to meet her boyfriend.

Dylan and Beth had been dating for about two years now. Although they had their on and off moments, I personally think that they're good for each other.

About 12 minutes passed and I was already bored out of my mind so, I decided to explore the huge mansion.

I got up from the bar stool that I had gotten and threw the__ now __empty bottle of water into the trash can.

I went up the stairs that hopefully led to the rooms in the house. I looked around the hallway just to make sure I was safe. I walked into the first room on the left and closed the door behind me. I turned around to get a proper view of the room when I heard the click of the door lock which made me jump a little.

I slowly turned around and came face-to-face with the devil himself, but the only words that could come out of my mouth were,

"Well, fuck me sideways."
