Kei feels more and more awkward the longer she stands there, subjected to the intense gazes of her soon-to-be classmates. The class is easily around one hundred people and nearly every pair of eyes focus on her. Some faces are confused, others scornful, but most are filled with a subtle hunger that they just barely can control. She’s certain that for many, the public forum they are in is the only barrier between her neck and their teeth. Kei slowly feels more anxious than before.
“I see you’ve arrived sooner than I, Miss Miller. My apologies.” A smooth and clear voice speaks from behind. Soon an older, but less than middle-aged man appears within Kei’s sight. “I had intended to be here to greet you first and introduce you properly, but I got tied up with another matter.” He carries a briefcase, but his casual attire and slightly wild blonde hair make him less convincing as a prestigious professor. “Please come in. No need to stand by the door so nervously. They won’t bite.”
