"ALPHA, it's already eight, I am afraid we don't have much time. If we didn't make through the mist tonight we would have to spend the entire winter away from pack land." Ethan yelled.
Centauri sighed, he was right. He cannot risk everyone's life. He also cannot leave this place without his mate.
"Lets make five teams. Search for the girl in different directions for one hour if any of you find her let the others know. Gather at the shore where the ship is anchored after one hour and we will return." The last words kept echoing in his mind, return with or without her. The irony of these words left a bitter and burning sensation in his throat. He wanted to return but not without her.
He gave Ethan a last glance. For the first time Ethan saw a faint spark of emotions the the cold and merciless alpha. Centauri turned his gaze towards the deep forest. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath. His senses picked something unusual or may be it was his sixth sense but he immediately opened his eyes and jumped out of the window. Ethan who was looking at him closely, realised at that moment that it wasn't just a search for a dead girl but something more than that.
"Phyllis, Adie and Thomas pick your men and start searching. The remaining warriors must follow me. Titan stay at the ship once you are done shifting the dead." Everyone nodded and departed their ways.
Centauri was now deep inside the woods running at a much faster pace and looking at the surroundings in hope. He finally noticed small footprints near an oak tree. He had a bad feeling about it. All the forest was covered with lush green grass but only this part was affected by autumn. There was no grass and the mud was wet. He remained vigilant and slowly approached the footprints. He lowered his head and sniffed. He felt the familiar scent. He moved in the direction where the footprint was pointing, his walk as if of a defeated king moving towards his end. He felt the scent getting stronger and stronger. It was coming from the dense thorny bushes. This part of the forest seemed different. It had different type of trees. This part of the forest was lifeless, as if no one ever laid foot here. The bushes and trees were thick and dangerous.
He jumped across the bush and landed on the other side. His feet froze dead in track. His heart dropped at the site in front of him. All the colours of life drained from his body. He the mighty Alpha Centauri Leonis, who is known to be ruthless, merciless and death angel, who is feared the most in the werewolf kingdom. The first and only werewolf born with a fire demon. He who never accepted defeat and believed himself as the creator of fate was standing helpless and merciless in front of his own destiny. He was tested on his only desire, the desire of having a mate. For the first time in his life tears pour down from his eyes, he felt pain and realised he too had emotions buried deep inside that frozen heart he owned.
He don't remember when he shifted in his human form. His beast was gone, even the beast who took countless lives in these years couldn't endure the site, even he decided to escape. He kneel down on the forest floor, clenched his fists and howled till his throat gave up. He who used to make others scream was screaming in the forest. His head was bombarded with questions, but at that time all he could feel was misery. His beautiful mate was laying dead on his land. Her scent was disappearing and he couldn't do anything. She was gone for good.
Her arm was stuck in the thorny bush and a bullet passed through her heart. Her jeans were ripped a few centimetres above her ankle and blood had pooled there. He crawled near her and cupped her face with his hands. He then removed the strands of hair from her face which were sticking on the skin due to mixture of dried blood and mud. He felt no sparks, there was no sign of life left. Her eyes were close as if she was sleeping peacefully.
He kept staring at her beautiful features. Her beautiful blond and golden hairs were covered in mud and a few strands were stuck in the bush. She had soft white skin which had now paled. She might have fallen on the bush when shot and someone tried hiding her. Her arm was stuck in the bush and thorns impinged her beautiful smooth skin. A tear escaped his eye, fell down his cheek , down his jaw, in the air and travelled down his wrist when his hands were trying to free his mate's arm from the thorns which were now piercing his own skin. The blood of his mates was now being mixed with his blood and tears. He felt the presence of Ethan when he was busy tearing himself in order to free her.
"Alpha, wh...." he looked at him and instantly stopped and shifted in his human form. Centauri faintly heard him say,
"You all must retreat. We have found the girl. Bring the ship near this eastern part of the forest and get ready to return." all the wolves nodded and returned. Ethan who was surprised spoke hesitantly with shock clear in his voice,
"I knew something was wrong but I never expected to see you like this."
The only words Centauri managed to speak were, "Is she really............. gone?" He carefully pulled her arm from the bush and placed it near her cold body. His voice cold, distant and dry.
