There were a lot of benefits to being able to use magic, especially when you tried really hard and practiced with it frequently. I didn't use it regularly in my life, but I had practiced hard when I was younger. I had to prove that I was proficient to my Athair mòr. Not that I felt like I needed to prove myself or anything, but I did want him to be proud of me.
Now, I was using my magic for other reasons. Still as shallow and personal to me, but not at all noble. I was using my magic to impress my mate, who could use magic herself. I wanted her to be happy with the mate that fate chose for her. Not that I thought she would reject me or anything, but you never know what someone might be thinking at times like these.
