Chapter 3 - Chapter 3 - Aptitude

The way the process of the testing worked was that there would be 5 different aptitude tests taking place at the same time, this was because otherwise it would take far too long and the tests would not finish within the day.

Many students had started to wish from the bottom of their hearts that they receive at least a decent aptitude. this is because not all aptitudes are treated on the same level. some aptitudes have a greater proclivity to be stronger than others. This is determined by the grade that would appear next to the aptitudes. These grades were from lowest to highest, stone, iron, silver, gold, diamond and platinum.

Most people believe that lower-grade aptitudes aren't good which is a foolish sentiment, all people apart from protos could improve their aptitude by ranking up and can make it to the top it is just that it would take much longer for that to happen.

As people began making their way to the stage, people started at them waiting. The atmosphere in an instant became sombre.

The first student placed her palms onto the Matamas under the instruction of the official, "Place your palms onto the Matamas". The four other students had also begun, after a minute had passed the screen began blinking, the SP counter increasing from 0 at a rapid rate eventually reaching 395.

It was a decent number, neither too high nor too low, below that a description was displayed, and the official read out, "Class: Fysicas, your hair can become strong like iron and sharp as a needle"

A sigh of pent-up relief could be heard from her, her eyes lighting up with joy, it juxtaposed to the rest of the venue, as many only had an unreliable lifeline which was their parent's aptitudes. they were happy as she had awakened but when rationality took over they began to worry about their own fate

The official continued, "Your aptitude is an iron grade". Everyone breathed a sigh of relief, this was a common grade. on average about 65% of students were expected to get an iron grade or lower, 10% become protos and the rest will be higher.

As she was leaving the next student adjacent to her, opens his eyes wide in shock, tears streaming down his face, looking straight at the screen. 'Soul Power: 195', the official is shaking his face, and the student has no choice but to accept this reality.

This instantly brings tension into the room suggesting that perhaps that could be them next. shivers run down their backs. as they watched him head back to his teachers crying.

Anka looked at him for a second before looking back at the front. although the fear of becoming a protos existed for many, it was not that high a possibility for him. there was no need to worry about it when the odds are so low. He had tried sensing it before by using the method his teachers had taught him and had determined that his soul power is at the very least 400 mostly likely higher. there was no need to focus on others' misfortune when he have his own life to worry about.

He had no qualms against protos with the exception of those in the Swamp, He preferred to ignore them. Others did not agree with his viewpoint and would subject them to ridicule, as it made them feel superior

The schools revive more funding from the Syvernisi and TOI when they have fewer protos with the exception of schools in the high-class cities. They will be less likely to have protos due to students from higher-class families possessing ways to speed up the process of gaining soul power. At the same time, they would be receiving large sums of donations from the parents of those children.

That student could find solace in knowing he was not alone as a series of protos emerged, This pattern would continue as a blanket of despondency covered the room. The teachers from the various schools looked worried. "This is a worrying phenomenon, hopefully, there will be someone who will break this pattern, and soon" a teacher said in a serious tone.

As time passed, a student's name was called, and he made his way to the stage. After placing his hand onto the Matamas as instructed and waiting, the screen eventually displayed the following, "Soul power: 518".

The teachers sighed in relief and many students remarked, "Finally! I thought we would all be cursed to become protos, luckily this is no longer the case. Also, it looks as though he is the first elementas with fire-based abilities, and his aptitude grade is iron as well", despite the average aptitude grade, it meant that this student would not have to worry about his future carrier. This continued until Phoebe Cranbell stood on the stage.

MORNING.

Pheobe went downstairs after getting ready. she had spent 20 minutes straightening out her shoulder-length red hair before heading down to have some breakfast which her parents had meticulously made for her. They worked long hours as medics in the TOI hospitals and didn't have a lot of time for their daughter but they still made time for her, always making food for her to eat so she did not have to stave.

"Morning cupcake, did you have a good night's sleep?" her father asked looking from his Forkland daily as she sat down to eat.

"Yes Dad, I wanted to make sure that I did not get to school late"

"That's good. Today is an important day for you and all you need to know is that both me and your mother are proud of you. You have been the best daughter we could possibly ever have", her mother nodded in agreement, "That's right honey, we couldn't have wished for anything more. Here, eat this omelette."

These made her heart warm up as she smiled, her eyes shone with determination and yearning to make her parents proud and not have to worry about her well-being as she would be the one to look after the.

PRESENT.

Again after listening to the instructions of the official she placed her hands onto the Matamas, The process of having half of your soul power removed for the first time was not exactly pleasant, it would leave you feeling weaker, slower and heavier but it wasn't detrimental so long as it wasn't done on a constant basis. soul deprivation wasn't something you could train to cope with better the only way was to increase your mental fortitude.

"She is from one of the state schools right, she is probably going to get an aptitude grade of silver at best."

"Yeah, there isn't really anything special about her apart from her pretty looks"

Soon her results appeared on the screen, and the official began reciting, "Soul power, 678. Class Fysicas, you can summon phoenix wings, they will grant you flight and the sub ability to control fire. Grade: diamond."

looks of shock and amazement could be found throughout the entire room. such a high result would make her life very easy. She would be at the top of any class and would easily become rich. Those whose abilities had already been tested could only sigh in knowing that such a possibility is now no longer possible and those whose ability had yet to be tested felt hope, knowing that could possibly be them.
