Chapter 1 - Hestia

"To Hestia, Fumigation from Aromatics. Daughter of Kronos, venerable dame, who dwellest amidst great fire's eternal flame; in sacred rites these ministers are thine, mystics much blessed, holy and divine. In thee, the Gods have fixed their dwelling place, the strong, stable basis of the mortal race. Eternal, much formed, ever florid queen, laughing and blessed, and of lovely mien; accept these rites, accord each just desire, and gentle health and needful good inspire."

-Orphic Hymn to Hestia

---------------------

A dark castle sat upon the tallest mount in the land. This was Mount Othrys, the abode of the King and Queen of the Titans, along with their servants and the king's attendants.

An olive-skinned man in a black toga, with an elliptical golden diadem upon his head, sat on the largest golden throne in the gloomy throne room. A pale blue wisp appeared to enter the man, and another appeared to escape him before disappearing. Hours passed as he caressed his tree-brown beard; this man appeared to be deep in contemplation. His golden eyes twinkled with confusion. His guards observed this, and a small part of them wanted to question, but they swiftly squashed that thought. No reasonable mortal or Titan living under Kronos' authority would dare to ask the king such a question.

The Titan king sprang from his seat, causing a fright to his guards. He exited the throne room, his booming steps echoing throughout the castle, alerting all who heard it that he was coming. He made his way down the right hall towards his room. It was there that his wife was being tended to during childbirth.

The sound of her husband's footsteps scared Rhea. She wouldn't be able to do anything to stop him from swallowing her child, for she was exhausted from giving birth. She looked down at her daughter with tears forming in her eyes. Her daughter gave her the brightest smile, and it slightly warmed her heart, yet it did not stop her husband's footsteps from coming closer.

Kronos entered the room and couldn't help but notice that her dark curly hair was messy and her meadow green eyes had deep bags surrounding them, yet she still looked beautiful. He could tell that she was scared, and it was understandable. She didn't know that it wasn't the same Kronos that she knew before. He opened his mouth, and his booming voice began to echo throughout the room.

"She's beautiful. Have you named her yet?"

Rhea was utterly dumbfounded. Her husband constantly said he'd swallow the child if it wasn't a Titan or Titaness, and it was clear to all that this child was not a Titaness. She slowly collected herself and then began to speak, her voice slightly shaky.

"She is indeed beautiful, and no, I haven't named her yet. Do you have any suggestions?"

Kronos went into deep contemplation about her name. Two choices were presented before him. He could completely change her name from what he knew, or he could keep it the same. He ultimately decided and began to speak.

"Her name shall be Hestia. Unless you have any other ideas."

"No, I think that name's perfect. Hello, my little Hestia."

Rhea spoke softly as she looked down on her daughter and moved a strand of her scarlet hair. The orange eyes of the baby, now named Hestia, glowed akin to a flame when she heard her name. She began to giggle, bringing a smile to her parents. It was a great day on Mount Othrys.

A few hours later, upon Mount Othrys, a celebration was being held. Music filled the air as musicians played lively tunes on flutes and other instruments, and dancers twirled and swayed to the rhythm. The halls were adorned with colourful tapestries and garlands of flowers, giving the castle a festive atmosphere. All throughout Hellas, the sounds of cheer and laughter could be heard. Everyone could tell it was a momentous occasion, even if some didn't know why.

In Othrys, most of the Titans were present, and they were all celebrating the birth of their king's daughter and congratulating Kronos and Rhea.

Suddenly, tremendous pressure appeared, and all who were present in and around Othrys were frozen. The only one who appeared not to be affected was Kronos. It was as if time itself stopped, and that was indeed the case.

A rip in space formed, and a woman with skin as pale as a pearl and hair as white as a ghost appeared. Her purple eyes perfectly complemented her peplos, which were the same shade. Following her was a man with hair the shade of ash. His eyes were completely heterochromia; the left being grey and the right was blue. If one concentrated on them, they'd realise that there was a Roman clock on the left and an hourglass on the right. He wore a chiton that matched the shade of his eyes, adorned with several golden trinkets related to time.

Kronos bowed before them as Ananke looked at him with indifference and Khronos with slight joy.

"Greetings, Lord Khronos and Lady Ananke. I wasn't expecting your appearance," Kronos boomed.

"You think I'd miss the celebration of my student's daughter?"

With each word that Khronos spoke, his voice would change to that of a child, teen, or adult.

Kronos rose after hearing that and stretched his hand out for a handshake. Khronos smiled and took his hand, wishing him congratulations. Then time resumed, causing everyone to be shocked at the sudden appearance of the primordials.

All who were present greeted them courteously, for angering a primordial would bring calamity upon their lives. After everyone greeted them, they all returned to celebrating. It was said that the celebration lasted for a week. It was a week when everyone and everything appeared to be in a good mood.
