Jade.
Brittany and I sat in our spot beneath the willow tree at the back of the school, wrapped in a tensed silence I didn't know how to diffuse.
We hadn't had time to talk much since the day she blew down the bathroom stall door because she was worried about me.
The day I found out she was a witch.
It wasn't that I was mad at her or anything. I honestly didn't even really understand what it was I was feeling. But I guess I felt...betrayed?
She had suddenly felt just like everyone else in my life used to feel. Obligated. Obligated to talk to me. To engage me. To be around me. To keep me safe.
I had thought we had become friends naturally. Well, she had initially been my assigned school guide, but then she had started to do so much more than was required of her, that I'd thought we were naturally getting closer.
