Chapter 3 - Going Back Home

After getting his things along with the weapons, Thomson walked out of the dorm room.

Walking out of the hallway, he came out of the dorm building and headed toward the registration office.

After signing a few papers at the registration office, Thomson was now free to go back to the city.

Heading out of the Arvon base he headed toward the post. After walking for around half an hour he reached the post.

Asking around, he was told the next caravan going to Kravon city would leave in two hours.

Knowing that two hours wasn't a lot of time, Thomson decided to wait instead of going back to the base.

While he was waiting, soldiers were busy preparing for the upcoming journey. Some were loading up the machine guns while others were preparing rounds. Medics were double-checking their equipment. Many were filling the tanks with fuel.

All in all, everyone looked very busy.

Looking at them he was surprised. Although these caravans are always attacked, he didn't know things were this serious.

'I was unconscious on the way from the city or the base. If I remember correctly, that caravan was attacked and even some recruits died in the attack.'

Thinking back about what he was told, Thomson decided it was best to be prepared. So starting going through his stuff, looking for his weapon.

Opening his weapon case, Thomson started putting together his weapon.

While he was doing that, someone came to him and asked.

"Are you also coming along?"

"Yes."

Thomson answered as he lifted his head to look at her. The woman was carrying a bunch of assault rifles on her shoulders and seemed to be handing them out.

"Good, here take him and be sure to return it to supply truck no.2."

Not caring about what he was doing, the woman handed him an M4 Carbine. Looking at the rifle, Thomson didn't take it.

Although he learned how to operate this rifle in his first year at the base, he is more skilled at using a sniper.

"Thanks but I have my own weapon."

Saying so, Thomson pulled out his very own modified sniper. The AR-9S-A!

Although modifying this AR-9S cost me a lot of money and he was in debt for quite a while. But it was all worth it. This weapon in his hands is the best sniper at mid-range combat.

"Oh, you have your own weapon."

The woman was surprised, she then saw what Thomson was putting together. Most fresh graduates are only allowed to take home some rusty old AK-47 when they graduate. This is why she decided to hand him an M4 Carbine, which is a lot better weapon than the AK-47.

But seeing the modified AR-9S, she was even more surprised.

"Sure I do. This one cost me a lot of credit."

After putting together the AR-9S-A, Thomson proudly displayed it to her.

"Okay, well then I will keep going."

Saying so, she went back to handing out weapons.

As the woman went away, Thomson attached the strap to his AR-9S-A and closed his weapon case. Before closing the weapon case, he took around forty 5.6mm bullets.

Putting the bullets in the mags, Thomson put one magazine in his AR-9S-A and the rest on his belt.

Doing this, he waited for the caravan to depart. He spent his time walking around the post, familiarising himself with the way the transport department works.

Soon the time of departure arrived and everyone started getting in different trucks and armoured vehicles.

Thomson also got inside a passenger truck and soon their 5-hour-long journey started.

As the caravan left the base territory, Werewolves attacks started happening.

First, it was just some random Werewolf attacking the caravan because it passed by its territory. These Werewolves were easily scared away by the sound of a gunshot.

But as the caravan got further away from the base the Werewolves started attacking in batches. This bunch was a lot more hostile and they attacked without backing away.

But they were killed easily before they would even have a chance to close the distance.

The thing about Werewolves is that they are just overgrown wolves who walk on two feet. If they are killed before they even have the chance to close the distance, they are easy targets.

But the moment they reach you, it's the end. Your survival rate drops to single digits.

After two to three hours, the caravan started to slow down and everyone started to tense up a little. Seeing this, Thomson asked the guy he was chatting with along the way.

"So we reached the death forest."

Upon hearing Thomson mention the death forest, the guy sitting with him nodded his head and tightly gripped his rifle.

Seeing the way the guy sitting next to him acted, Thomson looked out of the truck.

Three years ago, it was a simple montane forest filled with wildlife. But then a pack of ten to fifteen thousand Werewolves settled here, and since then this forest has been renamed the death forest.

When the Werewolves pack first arrived here, the forest was filled with wildlife and they feasted like kings every single day. Before long there was nothing left.

Since then, they started attacking every single caravan that passed through the forest.

Because of this, the Arvon base connection was lost with Kravon city for months.

So, the Arvon base took action and Thomson clearly remembered almost the whole base was deployed.

The whole cleanup lasted for three days and thousands of Werewolves were killed. While the rest got away.

After some time these Werewolves returned and continued their attacks on the caravans. But this time these attacks weren't as bad as before, so the Arvon base chose to ignore them.

Still, the caravans going back and forth between the Arvon base and the Kravon city, suffer some casualties here and there.

Because of this, the base decided to allot more firepower toward the caravans going back and forth between the Kravon city and the base.

This was also the reason why that woman was handing out M4 Carbine to every passenger. This caravan has better firepower than all other caravans going back and forth between the cities and the base. So, Thomson wasn't too worried.

"Just to be on the safe side."

Saying out loud, Thomson held his sniper and started preparing his mind for the worst possible outcome.
