[Hmm.. Good. As long as you can make it show up, it's alright. Next. Fire, please.]
Lucas was a bit disappointed by Cecil's lack of reaction, but continued. Magic like this should be extremely normal to her. He focused on his mana once again.
Lucas did the same for the fire element. He imagined it being hot, roaring, and ready to swallow everything it comes in contact with.
When he opened his eyes, a small fireball had appeared, floating above his palm. This time, he didn't lose control of the magic. He tried to keep his excitement down.
"N-Now how do I put it out safely?" Lucas pointed at the fire and looked towards Cecil for an answer.
[Just think of... erasing it. Just like how you made it appear, imagine it gone. Retract the mana channels.] Cecil explained.
Lucas closed his eyes and imagined the fire in his hand dissipate. Then, when he opened his eyes, it was really gone!
"Oh, I get it!" Lucas smiled.
[Hm, you sure got that down quickly. Try wind now, Lucas.] Cecil said.
In a few seconds, a gust of wind was summoned. It was sharp enough to cut a few strands of grass if aimed correctly, even though it was not a strong breeze.
Cecil looked a bit shaken, but tried to hide it behind an awkward cough.
[E-Earth.]
"Earth..."
Unlike the previous elements, he didn't have a clear idea of what the element should look or feel like. He looked down and saw the brown land hidden beneath the grass and crouched down.
'The Earth element should be able to affect this, right?'
He imagined the land structures changing with his magic.
Lucas placed his hand against the ground, and channeled his mana. As a result, the ground was ruptured and formed a crack. A protruding stump was created. It was small, but it was present.
Around this time, Cecil began to tilt her head in confusion. A sneaking suspicion entered her mind, but she tried her hardest to supress it.
[...Light?] Cecil timidly asked.
Unlike Earth, Lucas was able to imagine the Light so much easier.
In a casual manner, Lucas created a blinding flash of light that hurt both of them. In fact, out of every element he tried, this was the strongest display.
[Dark...]
Cecil became increasingly mortified with each success. Dark was the last element, and the rarest out of the six.
'If he succeeded in this too.. With such ease, as well...'
In a few seconds, there it was. Cecil's order was fulfilled in the form of a shadow mist that spread around the air. The shadow spun around in the air, and was able to morph into different shapes before it was erased by Lucas.
Out of all the elements, Light and Dark turned out to be his forte.
Cecil massaged her temples. Lucas used all six elements.
And most importantly.. He was able to cast both Light and Dark magic. Those two were complete opposites, meant to not coexist with each other because of their contrasting elements.
Lucas used both of them. How is this kid's existence even possible?
Cecil had never seen such bullshit before.
Unless he was..
[..Okay, that's enough. Child, we have to talk about your condition for a bit.]
Cecil could feel it. This would someday grow to become a headache inducing matter if she didn't teach this man properly. It was a recipe for disaster.
After all, he was one to be pitied as well.
He didn't have a high amount of common sense because of how long he had suffered under those grueling conditions. She worried for his mental state at first, but he didn't look particularly off. He even joked around with her at times.
Lucas was a good child. Which made her even sadder.
She made a resolution inside her mind that she would do her utmost best in teaching and guiding this child.
[Lucas, I wouldn't recommend you using more than three elements in a fight. At least not when there are people watching. It's better to keep it under wraps unless you are in a pinch.]
Cecil went ahead and explained information regarding magic that Lucas lacked. In the end, Lucas finally understood the gravity of his earlier showcase.
Six elements. All of them were within his range of abilities.
[In my realm.. We call people like you Videl. Truth be told, one's magic elements is determined by how high one's affinity with the spirits are.]
[Spirits.. beings that are both inanimate and animate grace this world. Their existence is on par with the Tree of Origin itself. They make up this entire world with their collective elements. Even as fairies, angels, or even deities, spirits are respected.. Because they are the ones who carry the Tree's essence and compose the worlds.]
[When someone is so beloved by the spirits, to the point that both the Light and Dark elements that contrast against each other exist within that person, we call them Videl. Beings beloved by all.]
[Videls are by no means common. In fact.. I think there has only been a total of five.. No, including you, six Videls that has ever existed.]
'Videl...' Lucas mumbled that term.
He gulped his saliva.
There was no one to come and teach him about all of these things since the Players didn't return to visit Ulya after reaching the higher cities. To think that he hid this kind of potential within himself all this time, it brought him a sense of exhilaration and a burning desire.
He was fueled with the desire to obtain more knowledge. Luckily, he had Cecil by his side to fill in his inadequate brain.
'There's so much I need to learn.'
Lucas also found out that he liked magic quite a lot. The whole idea, the mechanism around elements and mana interested him.
Thanks to that, he decided to allocate the points he gathered from defeating monsters and levelling up towards the Intelligence stat in order to boost his mana bar and allow his magical abilities to improve and thrive even more.
