Evander believed that Persie would move aside upon seeing Luke, but he looked determined to ride the horse.
"Aren't you being childish?" Evander asked. "I like this horse, that's why I chose it. Please move out of the way so the groom can saddle it."
"I already told you, I chose the horse first. Choose another one," Persie replied.
Tears welled up in Evander's eyes. "So it wasn't enough that you fired me from my father's company, now you won't even let me have the horse I want?"
Persie forced himself not to roll his eyes and asked, "If Demetrius is your father and Calista your mother, why don't you call them 'father' and 'mother' instead of their names?"
Evander was taken aback by the question. What did it have to do with anything? Calista and Demetrius knew it wasn't the point, but they also wanted to hear the answer.
Evander had been with them for months and had said he loved them, so why not call them mother and father?
