Chapter 13 - Map Marking

Looking at the two level 1 Feeble Bone Creatures, I figured it would be best to give them their commands so they could begin leveling up. "The two of you can hunt any animals or monsters you find, and once you kill them, bring them back here and put them in a pile there." I pointed at a clean spot farther up the slope of the cave as I continued. "I want the two of you to stay away from any humans, including the human village and hamlets that are around here. Once the two of you level up to level 2, I want you both to stop killing your prey and instead bring it back here so that Casper over there can kill them and grow stronger too. When you see White Death inform him of this as well please."

The two skeletons looked at each other before looking at me in complete and utter sync. I felt a small shiver run up my spine at the action, especially when I felt their glowing green eyes upon me. Before they began to run off, I realized that I should come up with a name for each of them, after all, the other three had received names. Thinking to myself, I tried coming up with a good name for the both of them until I thought back to the old stories once more.

In the old stories, there was once a story about a Divine Battle Mage who had fought against two angels of death by the names of Azrael and Dabria. I smiled upon the names and felt that it would fit perfectly since in the old stories it was said the two angels were siblings, and as I looked at my two new undead, one could assume that they were siblings as well.

Pointing at the one on my right, and then the one on my left, I finally gave them their names. "You shall bear the name of Azrael, and you shall henceforth be known as Dabria. Go out and hunt my little angels of death." I chuckled to myself as they took off like the wind, quickly leaving the cave with their absence.

Turning to Casper, I gave him a new command. "When White Death or the other two bring you some live creatures, you can go ahead and kill them so you can grow stronger. Stop killing them once you reach level 2. Also once you reach level 2, tell the others so they can stop hunting and any of the creatures that were caught and yet to be killed can be given to Poky so he can level up as well."

Casper seemed to brighten in response before he returned to his more pale and translucent self. Now that I was done I could no longer ignore the exhaustion I had put on myself, and knew that I had to get back to my room and sleep for the rest of the night, or else risk passing out tomorrow.

Making my way slowly, I realized that clouds had covered the sky making it harder for me to see the markers I had made on the stones. Though I could no longer see the different turns, I figured a bird's eye view would make it easy for me to see where I needed to go, and as such, I thought of the good old map function in my system. 'Map'

After a few seconds of loading, the map of the region around Hothal Aldu appeared before my eyes, and I was quickly shocked to see several glowing dots on it. Intrigued, I looked closely and quickly noticed a large dot of visibility at the graveyard, along with two smaller dots of visibility running through the northern woods. I could also see where I was since I was wandering through the gorge, but I also noticed a dot farther behind me around the area I realized was of our hidden base.

In my groggy stupor, it took me some time to connect the dots as to why I could see all these different regions, but I eventually realized that I was able to see parts of the world due to my undead that were out and about. This little bit of information immediately made me feel like that of a god, for if I got enough undead, I could place them around the entirety of the world, and see and maybe even hear everything that goes on. Nothing could hide from me, and no one would be able to plot or rally armies against me without me knowing.

Of course, that would be in the far future, as of right now I didn't even have enough undead to secure a village region, let alone the barony itself. I returned to my dot of light and began following the visible path out of the gorge, allowing me to make my way to the exit. Once I arrived at the exit, I closed my map function and began following the path I had been taking towards the graveyard, and from there back to Hothal Aldu.

Reaching the graveyard, I found that my undead had finished refilling the hole that had been previously made, and were beginning to make their way back to the cave. Stopping White Death from heading out to continue hunting, I figured now would be the best time to look at him before I went back home and rested. Looking him over, his blood coated face and hands were now covered with clumps of dirt, making him appear as if he had recently risen up from beneath the earth. I knew for a fact that if anyone were to see him, they would be immediately frightened and I myself felt that it would be best for him to clean himself.

I paused as I realized he was coated in blood from the first pile of corpses. The pile that Poky had been eating from. Poky, who had necrosis. Why hadn't Poky's necrosis not reanimated the undead corpses that he had been feasting upon? Also does White Death have temporary necrosis now that he is coated in fluids that were contaminated? I figured it would probably be best to have White Death clean himself off somewhere so as not to contaminate any other prey he may find, though I would have to look at the map once more to find a location that wouldn't lead to a mass contamination. But first I wanted to fully check out White Death's growth before sending him off.

Other than his gruesome appearance, I realized that he was now the height of my shoulder, his back was far less hunched compared to before, and his bones appeared to be thicker and far more durable. I also felt that his black horns had grown smaller, though I wasn't entirely sure at the moment. Using my inspection skill, I immediately pulled up his stats to make sure he had properly healed.

I nodded in satisfaction upon seeing that he was now properly healed. Switching to my map view, I pulled up the Northern Forest region, looking for a place that he could get cleaned up in without it spreading anywhere. I eventually found a pond that was farther East from the gorge entrance, that didn't lead into any rivers, stopping the contamination from spreading anywhere rapidly should the necrosis take effect. What's more was due to the fact that it was so far from the gorge entrance, roughly an entire day's walk for White Death, even if the necrosis took effect and adventurers were required to go and deal with it, no one would think to look in the gorge for more undead as long as I had them hide deep in the cave.

Now how do I get White Death to this pond without taking him there directly. I looked at him in contemplation, trying to think of a way of sharing the location of the pond. Maybe I could mark the pond on my map, and it would appear as a marker for my undead to go to, I thought to myself.

Figuring it was the best try I could do, I thought of placing a marker on the pond, and all of a sudden a marker creation window popped up. Immediately, I named the pond as [Cleaning Station] and set the marker color to a dark green color. The window disappeared after I approved the marker, and I saw a small green dot appear on the pond, and when I directed my focus to it, a translucent name appeared across the pond.

"White Death, I want you to go and clean yourself of all the blood on you at the marker called Cleaning Station. Once you're done, you can return to the cave and receive your new orders from Casper." White Death immediately took off in the direction of the pond, and I once more felt satisfaction in knowing I could place markers for my undead to gather. I then quickly reopened the map and placed a light green marker named [The Cave] where Casper was located so that whenever I mentioned the cave, my undead would immediately know where to go.

After that was done, I made my return to the village, then the guild hall, before finally plopping down face first upon my bed for the night.
