Chapter 14 - Level Up and New Skills

Waking up, I felt more refreshed than I had ever felt before. I immediately noticed the different notifications that had accumulated over night, and I decided I would scroll through them to clear them out and see what I had gained.

[10] x 2

[8] x 4

[6] x 3

[4] x 17

[2] x 24

[Level Up]

[5 Free Stat Points]

[2 Free Skill Points]

I smiled with pure glee upon seeing that I had once again leveled up and gained more stat and skill points to use. I was truly excited since unlike the regular adventurers who would take several days to increase between their levels, I was already gaining on them. Taking a quick peek at my stats to see how much experience I needed to level up to level 4, I found that I had 163.5 out of 250 experience, meaning I should theoretically be able to level up by tomorrow morning.

Since I was in my own room, and no one seemed to have noticed that I was gaining any levels over the past few days, I figured I was safe enough to assign my new points. Since I didn't know what exactly willpower did, I figured I would reassign the extra stat point to my energy instead of intelligence so that I was putting one point into vitality and four into energy.

Once that was done, I then looked at my skills, and figured that my undead were unlikely to reach level 3 before tomorrow morning, as such I decided that I wouldn't put the skill points into Undead Mastery. I also wouldn't waste the points in either Herbology or Gathering, and again my Inspection skill didn't have any level indicators, so I figured that I should invest my points into my class combat skills once more.

I was once again deciding between each of the three classes and my mind was telling me to once more put the points into the Feeble Bone Creatures so that I could get more skeletal undead, since the corpse and soul undead would only increase my risk of being discovered by people. But as I was about to add the points to my skills, I paused as I felt an urge implying that this was the wrong choice.

I couldn't explain this urge, all I knew was that my subconscious appeared to be disagreeing with me, and as I sat there and contemplated, I finally decided that I would try to see if my Inspection skill would accept a skill point to it. As for my remaining skill point, I would save it until a later decision. As I added the skill point to Inspection, I noticed a few notifications appear.

[Hidden skill evolution, gained Thorough Inspection]

[Gained new skill Analyze]

To say I was surprised was an understatement. I had gained two entirely new skills for the price of one, though I wondered what the difference between Inspection and Thorough Inspection were, and the difference between Thorough Inspection and Analyze were. All of a sudden a new pop up window appeared, showing me Thorough Inspection and Analyze.

Thorough Inspection:

One can see skills, damage indicators, and other hidden information that Inspection can't find on other creatures.

Analyze:

Allows for the studying and identification of non class skills, items, hidden information and whatnot.

I was truly intrigued as to what this supposed hidden information was, hell, maybe even my undead had hidden information that I didn't know about. I would definitely check it out the next time I see them. As for Analyze, I grinned upon realizing that I could use it to see what my Gathering and Herbalism skills finally did. I was also excited to see that I could finally learn the stats of different equipment I used.

To test it out, I pulled out my bronze sword and holding it in both hands, I used the Analyze skill on it.

<[ Bronze Bastard Sword ]>

[ Damage ]

10 - Piercing, bleed (Ranged 1 - 10 hp/sec)

5 - Slashing, bleed (ranged 1 - 5 hp/sec)

[ Defense ]

Parry - 15% damage reduction, 10% chance of activation

I was quite satisfied with what this sword could do at the moment, though I figured at the rate I was increasing in levels, it wouldn't serve me very well in the long run. Now that this was finished, I restored my sword into my inventory before using my Analyze skill on my Gathering and Herbalism skills.

Gathering Level 1:

Increase the chance of gaining double the item from gathering by 1%.

(Gathering from the environment: ie: rocks, ores, plants, eggs)

[Gathered 30/100 resources]

Herbalism Level 1:

Immediately know what type of herb is before you, know which parts of the herb are useful, and know how to properly grow and raise the herb. (10/10 herbs known) Increase growth rate by 10%, increase herb effectiveness by 5%, increase the probability of raising a rare herb by 2%, increase the number of drops by 5%. 5% success rate on creating herbal brews, 1% chance of increasing the effects of the herbal brew.

[Hidden Quest:

Collect 10 different herb species

Brew 20 successful herbal brews

Grow 1 herb to maturity]

Seeing the description for my Gathering skill, I began to wonder what skill I would need to unlock or gain, to be able to increase the resources gathered from corpses. Wait a second, do corpses drop loot? Should I try using the Gathering skill on one of the corpses I had? I figured I would do this after I quickly checked on my Herbalism skill.

So I basically had an increase in growing herbs and creating herbal brews like teas and soups. I didn't really have any intention of growing herbs or whatnot, but I guess having the skill could be useful. I then noticed the message of a hidden quest under my Herbalism description, curious I began to wonder what I would receive upon completing the hidden quest, though I speculated that it would lead to a level up of my skill.

I paused as I thought back to my Undead Mastery that also had a hidden upgrade quest. I immediately used Analyze on my Undead Mastery to see if the hidden quest was now shown.

Undead Mastery:

Your skills with necromancy grows stronger, and your understanding of the unlife grows deeper. Passive skill that increases the max level for your undead, allowing for max level to reach level 3.

[Hidden Upgrade Quest:

Have at least 3 Level 3 Undead]

Looking at the hidden quest, I smirked upon seeing it. After all, I would undoubtedly have this completed in only a few days after I had made sure that all my undead had reached level 2 before sending the Feeble Bone Creatures to level up to level 3.

Now that I had figured that out, I returned my sites towards seeing if I could receive anything from using my Gathering skill on corpses. Pulling out a Blue Wing since it was a small bird that could fit in my hand, I figured it would be the least likely to create a mess within my room.

Looking at it, I activated my Gathering skill, and immediately got two notifications from the process.

[Can not gather from a creature]

[Gained new skill: Looting]

Seeing the new skill appear, I immediately analyzed it to see what it did for me before I then used it on the dead Blue Wing.

Looting:

Increase the drop rate by 1%, increase the number of items dropped by 1%, allow to collect drop items from a corpse

(Gathering from killed enemies)

[Blue Wing Feather] x 4

Upon seeing the looted drops from the Blue Wing, I looked at the bird in my hands and quickly noticed that none of the feathers were missing from the bird, nor were there any just laying in my hands. I looked around in confusion, until I had the bright idea to search through my inventory, where I found the four feathers located. Shocked, I realized that I could gain more from creatures other than just handing over their carcasses, and I wondered what the difference was between the feathers I had looted compared to the feathers on the actual bird.

I would have to take a look once I plucked the Blue Wing's feathers later. Putting the bird back in my inventory, I quickly got ready for the day before rushing off for breakfast. I once more felt as if someone were watching me, but as I glanced around the dining area, I was unable to discern who the person was. I was starting to become annoyed at this point, this person had been watching me for over half a month now, and I still didn't even know who they were, though thinking back on it, I realized that I usually continued having the same feeling while in Otto's class, meaning who ever was watching me was in the same class as me.

Arriving at the medical room for Otto's next lesson, I began attempting to discreetly look at the other five people to see if any of them were watching me. Out of the five people, there were three girls and two boys. I noticed that one of the girls and boys seemed very close to each other as they talked about a dungeon raid, which led me to think that they were at least in a party together. The other three individuals kind of stuck to themselves, though they were talking about yesterday's lesson as they went over the different brews that we had learned, fact checking one another to make sure they knew how to make it correctly.

Even now I was unable to figure out who it was watching me, since no one appeared to be looking in my direction or wanting to talk to me due to the fact that I was classless and was lesser than them. If only they knew though, I mentally chuckled to myself before focusing on what today's lesson was supposed to be about.
