Chapter 34 - Musical bed

It was a bit of a musical chair - or more like a musical bed - for us that night.

I went to 'our' bedroom first after a shower and laid down to sleep. Sayna came in later and saw me, then promptly turned away to walk out. She was clearly unhappy about something, perhaps something to do with our conversation earlier in the day.

I couldn't take 'her' bed and make her sleep on 'my' couch (this is already getting complicated enough in my head), so I chased after her and told her to come back, which she didn't listen to. I probably shouldn't have, but just out of reflex ended up grabbing and pulling her wrist, and that made her screech and hiss like a cat. At that moment Shu came out of his shower with a towel covering his wet hair and saw us.

"Gees. Don't flirt in the hallway"

Then he just walked into his room rubbing his hair roughly with the towel.

"Hey, Sayna, I'm sorry about before. I don't know what went wrong but I'm sorry. You can sleep on the bed, I will take the couch"

Sayna then yanked her wrist out of my grip, gave me a cold stare while biting her lips, and walked back into the room. I didn't think it was a good idea to get back into the room to grab my stuff so figured I'd just sleep on the couch with no pillow and no duvet. Well, it sucks but I was used to it.

Later that night though, someone shook me awake while I was in deep sleep, maybe it was two or three.

"I will take the couch. You go back to the room"

It was Sayna. She still sounded a bit scornful but her voice was at least somewhat softer than before.

"No, Sayna, it's okay. I'm fine here. You go back to your bed"

"No, I want to sleep on the couch"

"What's wrong?"

"I'm gonna lay down, you go back to the bed unless you mean to say you want to sleep with me"

With that, she plopped onto the couch. Although this couch could be extended as a futon, it was still crowded and we could only sleep with our bodies pressed against each other here, so I took the cue, sighed, and got out of the couch.

"So you don't want to sleep with me?"

Just as I was about to walk off, Sayna asked me this and I didn't know how to respond. No matter what I said it would have been a wrong answer.

"Scum"

Sayna spoke without my answer as if she was talking to herself but deliberately loud enough for me to hear.

"Hey, I'm sor-"

"Go away"

Well, what could I do… so I just heeded her command and headed to the bedroom.

Once I climbed onto my bed in the darkness of the night and tucked myself under the bedsheet, I realized why Sayna came out. Shu ended up crawling up here again. What the hell… I couldn't let this be a routine thing.

"Hey, Shu. Get up. Go back to your room"

But he did not respond, just sleeping in blissful ignorance.

"Come on man. You gotta stop doing this"

"Just tonight…"

Shu spoke without opening his eyes and he was mumbling, so I didn't know if he meant it or if he was just answering in his half-sleep state.

:Sigh:

I wasn't gonna get into bed with Shu though. It was one thing for this child to creep onto my bed while he was half asleep, but it was another thing for a man to climb into the bed while the said child was sleeping looking so defenseless

So I walked out of my room again and then headed to Shu's room. I always respected Shu's privacy (and I honestly didn't want to have anything to do with his own space) so it was the first time I walked in there while he's been here, and I realized that the only path to his bed was to hop between small patches of space on the floor where it wasn't covered with rubbish.

Fuck this. I'm not the cleanest person in the world but I can't sleep here.

I then headed toward the couch in the living room again. Obviously, I didn't think it through properly because Sayna was lying on the couch now.

"So you came back to sleep with me?"

Sayna wasn't asleep and she spoke in a cold tone as she heard me approach.

Welp, what the fuck was I thinking…

"Sorry, I didn't mean to. I'll go away now"

"Scum"

That night, I ended up sleeping in the hallway, somewhere midway between the bedroom and the living room couch, lying back on the cold bare floor with no pillow and no duvet.
