:Ding:
"Nana, please meet me at the rooftop after school"
It was a message from Mina.
She doesn't shy away from talking to me in the classroom, so I guess messaging me like this means that she wants to discuss something secretly.
"Sure. See you then"
When I went up to the rooftop after a long boring day, I was happy to see Mina waiting there for me in the warm weather of late spring.
"Thank you for coming"
"No problem. So what's up?"
"I got this!"
Mina excitedly pulled something out of her bag, and it was a red envelope.
"You got some pocket money?"
"No no, look here-"
She got so close to me in her excitement that it almost felt like she's jumping onto me.
I looked closely at the red envelope that Mina was holding before my eyes found that it said: "From Juno". Ah, he must have seen the error of his ways and decided to listen to me and write an apology. Good boy.
But wai—
I then instantly facepalmed as I looked at it again. On closer inspection, you could tell that it was originally written "To Juno", and he just added some lines and letters in between to turn "To" into "From". No wonder they look squashed. He's recycling his new year's money envelope. Dude... This is like… but when I looked over at Mina she looked so happy that I didn't want to ruin her mood by pointing this out.
"Are you gonna open it now?"
"Yes! I will open it and read it now, I wanted to do it with you"
That's kinda sweet.
"Right, go for it girl"
Mina then carefully opened the envelope so as not to ruin it, and fished out a folded white paper. I could see both the excitement and nervousness on her face.
As she unfolded the paper, I noticed it was just a white A4 paper. Man, couldn't he have put some more effort into it?
Then Mina read the letter by herself and burst out laughing in a way that I have never seen from her before.
"So… what does it say?"
"You have a look here Nana"
- I'm sorry I kicked your head.
It must have hurt.
I will never kick you again.
I'm sorry.
Juno -
"He sounds so retarded..", I blurted out.
"He's so sweet"
"You are a surprisingly simple girl"
"Hehe"
"Well, I guess it's alright if it makes you happy - hang on"
"Yeah?"
"There's something else in the envelop"
"Oh you are right"
Mina opened the envelop a bit more and took the content out
"It's a movie ticket", Mina said puzzled.
"Look, there's a post-it note stuck on it at the back"
"Let's see"
- I hope you are free this Saturday -
"Holy shit!", I screamed out aloud unintentionally. Juno? Asking a girl out for a date?
Mina was completely frozen and looked so confused, and then the confusion turned into brief happiness, which then turned into nervousness and then sheer terror.
"Oh my god… what am I supposed to do Mina"
"Congratulation! You are going on a date!"
"…Really? This is all so sudden"
It really was. I asked him to write an apology, not ask her out on a date. But when it comes to Mina, this was the best gift she could have been given.
"I don't know where this is coming from, but this is good news for you right?"
"I'm so nervous!"
"Calm down, it's gonna be fine-"
Mina looked like she was tearing up, then jumped onto me and gave me a tight hug, whispering into my ear.
"Thank you.."
