Aperius stood at the edge of the forest his expression cold and indifferent like he was unaffected by the world. The wind blew his garments as the waning crescent moon hung at the horizon.
He touched the gemstone hanging on his chest with the tips of his fingers as he slowly closed his eyes. The gemstone suddenly lit up as it revealed its true appearance and chaotic whispers rang in his ear.
Among the confusing whispers, one voice stood out amongst them. It was a familiar calm voice that used to soothe him when he was young and so hungry that his stomach was sticking to his back.
"Mother," he whispered as he clenched and unclenched his sweaty palms. He knew it was all an illusion but he couldn't help being hopeful right now.
"Cover your eyes…."
Other whispers followed soon after as though echoing his mother's words.
"Cover them…."
"Cover them…."
"Cover…"
