Chapter 9 - You are just as strong as your brothers...

Like the cracks on the bed of a dried desert river, the fissures on Lilith's arm spread all over giving off a natural artistic effect that would leave one in awe. Her right arm was less affected than when compared to her left arm but it was still mind-boggling. This though wasn't the most amazing thing.

Within the narrow lines, there was a faint azure luminescent light creating a never seen before phenomenon. Her heart sank to the pit of her stomach as her hand quivered right in front of her watery eyes blurred by her tears.

Just like the saying goes when it rains it pours, it was indeed pouring but what sin had she committed for something like this to happen to her.

She knew that betas and omegas in the pack had golden yellow pupils that is if they hadn't killed an innocent. The betas and omegas in the pack with blue eyes had killed an innocent. As for regular and true alphas they had pupils as red as blood.

Under siege, she had also slaughtered a few witches and among them might have been some who were innocent. This is why when she was in an agitated mindset or when she shifted into her half man half wolf state her eyes would glow a radiant blue like the color of the sky on a clear day.

But unlike the beautiful sky, her eyes were as vicious as the stormy seas with tides as high as heaven itself.

That same azure blue was following through the cracks of her porcelain skin. As ethereal and enchanting as it was Lilith couldn't bring herself to admire it. Trembling in fright she jolted upright and tore off her outer robe as her chest rose and fell violently.

Merida who had seen it all couldn't help but feel frightened as she called out in a brittle voice, "Miss….," but Lilith's mind was in turmoil. As she stripped right to her undergarments her heart sank deeper and deeper into the dark abyss.

Her pupils turned into a bright blue color as she dangerously pushed herself to the edge of her sanity. Her emotions in disarray she watched as the cracks spread and as her skin was torn apart that familiar agonizing pain set in causing her to slump back on the stone bed.

She subconsciously wanted to shift like it would ease her pain. The word 'transform' kept echoing in her mind but when she tried, she found that she couldn't. There was no full moon to facilitate such a transformation. Her mind slowly became clouded as she sank deep into her despair. Just as her vision turned dark, she felt a soft voice calling out to her.

In this chaotic mess, she saw her mother stretching out her hand while telling her to fight it. "You are just as strong as your brothers…. Fight it, Lili…. Fight it," were the words echoing in the dark fog making her mind mirky. An explicable wave of calmness washed over her as memories of her and her mother flashed in her mind.

Exhaling deeply, she opened her eyes and the poison that had spread to her very core retracted slowly. With her body covered in sweat, she took deep breaths in succession.

As the turbulence settled down, she accepted the crystal bottle containing the elixir that the frightened Merida was holding out to her. She didn't question it nor did she refuse it.

With a slight tilt of her head, she drank the contents of the bottle before asking, "What's happening to me," in a cold steely voice.

Merida licked her lips nervously with the worry in her amber eyes apparent. With her hands in front of her in a gesture signaling Lilith to calm down she began to repeat her grandfather's exact words. The type of wolfbane the witches used when they attacked the pack was the infamous species known as ferox. Unlike other wolfbane species that merely weakens werewolves making them appear feverish at low doses, ferox at low doses would directly send the victim to Valhalla.

How and why Lilith survived such a ferocious poison was still a mystery but it had irreparable damage to her body. Merida's grandfather didn't have time to observe her but he was certain of one thing. He could only treat the symptoms and stop the poison from spreading. She would also have occasional blackouts especially when overstimulated.

He couldn't however explain the phenomenon with her skin and hair. That was something he couldn't fix and could only hope it didn't spread to other parts of her body. Having said all of that he emphasized that she would highly be dependent on medication from now on to prevent flair ups.

Merida took out a drawstring pouch bag and handed it to Lilith. "This contains the elixirs in case of emergencies and the ingredient list… in case we get separated," said Merida her tone stern like a doctor explaining essential medical dosages to a patient, "This here is the reserve ingredients…. All you have to do is follow the instru-."

Before she could finish explaining Lilith interjected. "We won't….. just keep it safe for me, okay?" she said but even she wasn't sure. Maybe it was because it would give her some sense of comfort that she said it but in truth, she wasn't confident in her words. Merida smiled gracefully as she packed the ingredients away.

She didn't think Lilith would take her along. That list of ingredients and instructions were all Lilith needed to make the elixir. In other words, she was extra baggage with shoddy medical skills. If Lilith wanted she could desert her at a moment's notice.

Thus when Lilith said they wouldn't get separated she was so happy that she couldn't help but smile unconsciously. But her joy was short-lived. That's because Lilith who had just calmed down suddenly asked for a mirror. She wanted to see if the poison had impacted her appearance and if it was salvageable at this point.

"Uhh well….. I don't have one but you, you look really pretty…. Like a unique type of pretty. There is absolutely no need for a mirror," said Merida while recalling how she tossed her mirror off a cliff under her grandfather's urging. That's because he believed Lilith would be stimulated further if she takes a look at her face and hair.

Lilith's brow furrowed while staring at Merida as though looking for any signs of deception. Well, Merida definitely wasn't lying about the mirror thing but she was lying about something else and it had to do with her appearance.
