Chapter 12 - Race to get stronger (2)

With my eyes closed and full focus on gathering exp points, I could feel my exp points rising slowly. The process of gathering exp points was slow but the progress was surely there. I could not have been more focused as I wanted to level up as fast as possible. But how could my fate allow that to happen smoothly.

BANG.....

With a large noise and a wave of air hitting me, I knew that something had just fallen dangerously near to where I was from. I could estimate the distance to be just some meters away and the thing was not small. I didn't want to open my eyes as a picture of the huge beast from before just flashed in my eyes. I didn't want to encounter something like the beast from before again.

Some time had passed yet I was still waiting for some type of movement from the thing that had just fallen. I was fearfull to open my eyes and wanted the thing to show some kind of response but there was none. I thought some non living thing had fallen and even if a living thing had fallen it probably had become non living due to the fall.

A little bit of fear lifted off my mind as I gathered courage to open my eyes. I had to inspect whatever it was as there would be a lingering sense of danger and my fear would not let me focus on my goal.

I opened my eyes and saw something unexpected. To my surprise there laid a huge bird without any movement. The bird was huge but my mind involuntarily compared it to the beast from before. Compared to the huge beast the bird felt tiny.

The bird laid there no movements at all. If not for the timely tweaking of its legs I would have thought it was completely dead. Looking at its huge body, there were deep cut marks all over. Its body was bloody with huge gashes that would take years to heal and from the amount of blood it was loosing, its death was written on a stone.

I could not even imagine from what kind of battle it had just fled away from. When my eyes landed on its wings, I could see some gaps between the feathers. Something had forcefully plucked its feathers rendering it unable to have a smooth flight. The bird probably fell mid flight due to the condition its wing was on. The bird must have mustered a lot of courage and fled just to land here and die a slow death.

Its death was fixed. It would be unable to cause me any trouble so I left it be and closed my eyes.

Just as I was ready to gather more exp points I heard a voice.
