Chapter 43 - Chapter 43: Nessa vs Misty - I

"How about we have a Pokémon Battle?"

Aeron knew both Pokémon wanted to test the other. Moreover, he also wanted his young Pokémon to watch this fight between giants and learn.

"Sure."

"Let's do this."

The girls immediately agreed, and Aeron decided to be the referee. "1v1 or 2v2?"

"Can we do 2v2? Pidgey will evolve soon, but it lacks battle experience." Nessa asked her friend, and Misty readily agreed.

"Preee!" The bird Pokémon was excited for a battle as well.

"2v2 it is, then." Aeron led the other Pokémon to a side and decided to be the referee for this battle.

Nessa and Misty recalled their Pokémon walking a little further from each other. The two girls were both Water-type trainers and thus were excited to fight each other. Even though the Pokémon of Aeron Nessa and Misty battled before, they were all friendly spars. They never had a full-fledged battle except for Axew and Gyarados...that was just a one-sided smackdown.

"Horsea!" The water horse Pokémon cheered for its trainer while floating beside the Aeron's Pokémon.

"This will be an official battle between Nessa Rurina and Misty Williams. Each trainer will use two Pokémon. Substitution is allowed only after a Pokémon has been in battle for at least three minutes or won a previous round." As soon as Aeron said those words, he tapped his Pokedex, and the rules were updated on Nessa and Misty's Pokedex. "The winner will be decided when one side's both Pokémon are either unable to battle or falls unconscious," Aeron explained before continuing. "Are both trainers ready?"

The girls nodded, and Aeron gave the final word.

"Begin!"

"Pidgey, I choose you!"

"Wartortle, prepare for battle!"

Aeron looked at the moveset of both Pokemon, and he knew Misty was at a massive advantage. Not only was her Wartortle stronger, but it also had stronger [Moves] and resisted most of the [Moves] in Pidgey's arsenal.

As for why he could see the moves of other trainers' Pokémon on his dex? Nessa and Misty had given him access to them while he had done the same for them.

"Don't think you can win this," Misty spoke with a smirk. "If Drednaw wants to fight Nayla, it needs to get through Wartortle first." She didn't even consider Pidgey a threat, and rightfully so.

Nessa ignored Misty's taunt knowing Misty liked to rile up her opponents during a battle. "Are you ready, Pidgey?"

"Pree!"

"Start with [Gust]."

Pidgey flapped its wings and made a gust of wind, but on the other hand, Wartortle had already used [Rain Dance] without Misty's command.

"Attack!" Misty pointed forward, and the indigo turtle ran toward the Pidgey through the [Gust]. It then withdrew into its shell while spinning at high speed.

[Rapid Spin]

It tore through the [Gust] and closed in on the bird Pokémon.

"Pidgey, fly up and then [Agility]. Follow it with [Tailwind]." Nessa frowned as she saw the Wartortle remain unaffected by that [Gust].

"Heh? You want to play like a chicken?" Misty taunted, making her opponent's lips twitch. Aeron could not help but chuckle at that. Even though Misty and Nessa were best friends, she did not hold off on her taunts in a battle. While being a bit sensible otherwise, she was always confident and arrogant during her battles. Something she said was picked up from her father, who loved to taunt his opponents in battles. However, one could not fault her either since she had the strength to back those arrogant words.

Wartortle watched as Pidgey flew higher into the sky and started using [Status Moves] to buff its speed. A white light enveloped its body as the indigo turtle used [Work Up] to buff itself.

"[Air Cutter]."

Pidgey's wings were soon covered in Flying-type Energy before it shot out multiple [Air Cutter] toward the Wartortle; the latter easily dodged them all before firing an [Ice Beam].

"Dodge it with a [Quick Attack]."

"Pree!"

Pidgey was covered in white light before its speed was increased, allowing it to escape from an [Ice Beam], but right before it stopped, a torrent of water hit it dead on.

"War!" The indigo turtle roared as it successfully lured the Pidgey with a super-effective [Ice Beam] and used a [Water Gun] when the bird Pokémon least expected.

"Preee..." The bird Pokémon dropped down from the air, and Wartortle charged toward it with a [Rapid Spin].

"Pidgey!" Nessa called out to her Pokémon, and the little bird grunted before it flapped its wings again and flew up into the air, narrowly dodging the [Rapid Spin]. "Now use [Wing Attack]."

Pidgey had previously used two speed-boosting moves, and thus when its wings expanded with Flying-type Energy, it charged straight toward the Wartortle, who had its back to it.

"That was a good dodge, but this ends here." Misty smiled before she finally gave a command. "[Withdraw] to take the hit and then [Ice Beam]."

"War!" The indigo turtle escaped into its shell before covering itself in defensive energy. When Pidgey sent it flying into a tree, the Wartortle came out unscathed and immediately used an [Ice Beam] to take out the bird Pokémon.

"Pree...!" The bird Pokémon tried to stand up, but it fell after a few attempts.

"Pidgey is unable to battle; Wartortle is the winner. Nessa, send out your next Pokémon."

"Easy peasy, lemon squeeze." Misty grinned at the outcome while Nessa let out a small sigh and recalled her Pidgey.

"You were great!" She spoke to the Pokeball before taking out a Dive Ball of her next Pokémon. "Drednaw, I choose you!"

Bang

"Naw!" The giant turtle landed on the ground sending a few tremors that made Wartortle almost lose its balance.

"War...!" The indigo turtle could feel the pressure of its next opponent. Even though it had seen Drednaw earlier, the pressure it radiated now was suffocating. The armoured turtle was not close to Gyarados's level, but Wartortle knew it was strong...very strong.

While Wartortle tried to determine the strength of its opponent, Drednaw completely ignored it and looked at the clouds sending down rain. A slight smirk appeared on its face.

While the two Water-type Pokémon had a staring contest, Aeron decided to scan Nessa's Pokémon.

[Drednaw, the Bite Pokémon. Drednaw is known to be extremely vicious. Its fangs are strong and sharp enough to bite through rock and iron. Though Drednaw has an extremely heavy rock shell, its well-developed muscles allow it to move quickly.

"Geez." Aeron looked at Drednaw's moveset, and while it wasn't as impressive as Misty's Gyarados, it was not to be looked down on. All of its [Moves] except three were at Advanced-stage.

[Moves] had three stages: Beginner > Advanced > Master.

One might see a video on Poketube about making Pokeblocks and gain information about how to make them, but it does not mean they will be able to do it on the first try. It will take practice to make an edible Pokeblock. [Moves] worked similarly. While Pokémon might have the information about the [Move] in its mind, it did not mean it could successfully perform them.

Reaching the Beginner-stage in any move meant a Pokémon could perform the said [Move] without much effort and thought. But using [Moves] drained the energy reserves of any Pokémon, and Pokémon usually need to be stationary to gather enough energy for a [Move]. Thus, most Pokémon could only bring the moves to an Advanced Stage during their second evolution, which could also be their final evolution.

In their second or final evolution, Pokémon had significant energy reserves; therefore, they could easily put more energy into one move and make it even stronger.

At Advanced Stage, not only were [Damaging Moves] twice as powerful as they were at the peak of Beginner Stage, the Pokémon could use them while moving. This made the battle between stronger Pokémon fast-paced, as they no longer needed to stop and gather their energy. As for [Status Moves], their effects were increased as well.

If [Confusion] had a 10% chance of confusing an enemy at the Beginner-Stage, at the Advanced Stage, it would be 20% while 40% at Mastered Stage.

During a Mastered stage, the power of every [Damaging Move] was twice as much as it was during Advanced Stage, making them extremely strong. A [Hyper Beam] at Master Stage was strong enough to destroy a settlement as big as Pewter City. It had happened many times before.

Twenty years ago, fifteen Gyarados decided to attack the Viridian City in anger. Even with Viridian City Gym Leader getting involved, half of the city was destroyed just by the aftermaths of their battle. It was a dark day in the history of Kanto in which countless humans and Pokémon had lost their lives.

For this very reason, no Pokémon with S-Class or A-Class threats were allowed to be released in any public areas. Misty, who had done that in Greenwich Town later, had to pay a heavy fine along with a warning from the authorities. If she weren't the daughter of a former Elite Four, the consequences could have been worse.

And therefore, Aeron knew Misty's Gyarados was an absolute beast that had almost every move on Mastered Stage. Finding a Pokémon that could fight it on equal terms would be similar to looking for a needle in a haystack.

"Both of you ready?" Aeron asked while looking at Drednaw and Wartortle.

"Naw."

"War!"

"Round 2...Begin!"
