We drove out of my estate, and we got into this traffic from hell (Lagos traffic will always change your plans) Well, it wasn't boring, trust Cheta to turn everything into fun, we had a mini karaoke in the car, singing and dancing to the songs from Cheta's playlist. After an hour in traffic, we got to the first location, it was a house party, it was one of Cheta's friends' birthday, and his friends threw him a surprise birthday party, we got there and right after Cheta locked the car, he took my hand and we talked together to the apartment. We got into the apartment and Cheta introduced me to his friends (calm down, he didn't tell them I was his girlfriend) and then he started talking to his friends, but he held my hand all through, I don't think there was a time, he left my hand. Cheta's friends were cool, I mean I got some cold stares from 1 or 2 of the females but I didn't care, I was more focused on the man who was treating me like a princess.
After 2 hours at the party, Cheta said his goodbyes to his friends, and we left the party. At this time, it was already past 5.00 pm, so I felt it was time to go home but Cheta had other plans, "I told you I have a series of things planned out for us.", that was his response when I told him, he had missed the turn to my estate,
I smiled at him and asked, "Okay, so.... where are we going next?",
"You just wait and see Dinma", he said,
I smiled.
In 30 minutes, he stopped in front of the IMAX cinema in Lekki.
He turned to me, and said, "We are here.",
"Okay, what are we doing here? And what movie are we seeing?", I asked him,
He smiled at me again and said, "We are going to see The Brotherhood".
I was shocked.
I asked him, "You were listening?".
"Of course, I was listening, now let's go and see this movie, we are almost late", he said, smiling.
So the previous night, when we were out, I had mentioned the movie 'The Brotherhood' in passing, okay maybe not in passing, I probably mentioned it twice or thrice, I don't know but all that matters is that Cheta heard me talk about it and made plans for us to watch it together. This man was ticking my boxes already). Anyways, we bought our tickets and snacks, and we hurried into the theatre to watch the movie because we were already late, we had to find our seats quietly, even though the only seats available were the seats in front, while we watched the movie, Cheta had a lot of things to say about the movie, a movie critic I must say but at the end of it, we enjoyed the movie.
When we were done with the movie, Cheta said he wasn't done with the serial dates he had planned.
"We are going dancing.", he said, very excited.
I turned and looked at him and asked, "Are you not tired?".
"I'm not, I'm enjoying spending time with you, I don't want the day to end.", he responded.
I smiled at him and said, "Me too.".
With Cheta, there was no pretending, he made me feel so comfortable). We went dancing that night, it was at a salsa dance club. Cheta is such a good dancer, I mean I was mostly learning from him (normal me; I was already daydreaming about our wedding day) After 2 hours of dancing and having a good laugh with friendly strangers, it was time to go home, we both had to be in church in the morning, so we had to go home early and rest. The drive back home was sort of quiet, I think we were both exhausted and then I heard Cheta's voice break the silence,
"Dinma, I like you a lot, and I know it's just been a few days or should I say 48 hours but I can't get over this feeling" Cheta said,
At this point, I didn't know what to say because it was like Cheta was reading my mind. I mean it had just been 2 days but it felt like I had known this man for a long time and I was already falling for him, instead of saying what was on my mind,
I blurted out, "I think we should give it some time and be sure what this is".
Cheta turned and looked at me briefly, still driving.
"Okay, but I know what and how I feel. I want to marry you", he said,
(What? What is this man saying? Is he serious?) I didn't say anything else, and we drove to my house in silence, I had a lot going through my head at that point, and I think Cheta had the same too.
When we got to my estate, he got down and hugged me, whispering in my ear, "Please think about what I said", and think I did.
I got into my apartment and after a quick shower, I lay in my bed and all I could think about was my conversation with Cheta in the car, is this the right thing to do? Should I believe him? Will it end like one of my many futile relationships? Was he real or is it just the normal Lagos boy talk? But what if this was real? Was this love finally? This might just be my prayers for a man finally answered. These were the thoughts running through my mind and I didn't know when I fell asleep until my alarm rang in the morning to wake me up.
By the time I was done with my shower, Cheta called to know if I was ready for church, he wanted to join me at my church, so I let him know I would be ready in 45 minutes, and he said he would pick me up in an hour. We went to church together and during the service, all I could think about was the conversation from the night before, as if he could read my mind, after the service, he asked if I was still worried about the night before, and I told him it was all I could think about,
He took my hand, smiled and said, "Don't worry about it, we can take it slow. I'm sorry that I laid all of that on you in one night."
I smiled back at him, wondering how God had blessed me with this handsome and understanding man that was making me fall hard for him (please don't judge me, I know it's too early to pull the 'love' card but come on, this man was driving me nuts and this was the only way I could explain how I felt) We went to have lunch with my sisters after the service (that was the first time he was meeting them) and he hit it right off with my sisters and they liked him too, I mean they were chatting the whole time we were eating even on the ride back home. Cheta had given me the weekend of my dreams and I wasn't ready for it to end, but it was time to get back to real life. That evening, Cheta called me to tell me he was at my estate, I went downstairs to meet him and he said he wanted us to drive around for a few hours, so we drove around, listening and singing to the songs on my playlist (even though Cheta said I had a boring playlist), we even stopped at a drive-thru to get dinner before he dropped me off at 10.00 pm and when I jokingly said it was time to get back to real life, Cheta said he didn't like how it sounded,
"We are not going to stop talking or spending time together, just because we have work. I'm very serious about you Dinma, so don't think this is a one-time thing ", he said.
I nodded my head, this man didn't know what he was doing to me. As per usual, he called me when he got home to say good night. Now, I'm in my bed again, thinking about this man and what he was doing to me. I know you think this shouldn't be a new thing for anyone but it was for me, I had never been in a relationship with anyone that treated me like he saw me or like I mattered, my last relationship was abusive ( Slow down, it was emotional abuse, not like it makes it better), so to have someone like Cheta to meet me and treat me like I mattered, this was a big deal for me and I'm here for all of it, who doesn't want to be spoiled now and then? I couldn't wait to see our story unfold and where it would lead us.
